Title: base layout
Post by: 68DevilM on September 04, 2004, 11:59:06 AM
was defending 71 yesturday, for like 2 hours. (lol good fight) anyways. i was in a flack shooting bombers down, when it occured to me its too easy to take these vh's down with a single set of lanc's, i mean why have 3 vehicle hangers? if they can all be leveled in one single pass? why not space them out a bit? make it a little more difficult to take down.

same thing with small airfields, and the fighter hangers. were not the hangers in ah1 spaced out? just hate the fact that one set of bombers can totally disable all of your fighters with the first pass.

That and the fact 1 straffing run on the Barracks and there dead. I believe killing barracks should be an extremely hard thing to accomplish, not an extremely easy thing to do.

Troops and supplies should also be separate things.

I beleive one guy shpuld be able to make an impact, but seeing a single 110 take out 5-6 bases' worth of troops and supplies is over the top gamey.

Perhaps but if you have a better solution to slowing the horde that actually would work Im all ears

But I will agree that Troops and supplies should be two seperate targets.

But only because they should be :)

The difference between a "horde" and a "concentrated effort" is pure semantics. I think the numbers are generally much more balanced than they were -- although the current mindanao map has frustratingly few points of enemy contact. That means that when superiority is achieved, it quickly becomes dominance. That's very different from a horde, where one side outnumbers the othe by a hundred or somehting. I'm a rook, and I've flown outnumbered fairly often in the last few weeks.....

And while taking out troops is tactically sound, it takes away gameplay for others and sustains the "horde" over the dominated bases. If a couple bases fall, the attack gets diffused over  a broader front while the defense gets more concentrated and thus more effective, more focused. making troops tougher to kill would increase gameplay, increase give and take, and increase fun.

I'm not saying to make them as tough as a shore battery -- but a 110 shouldnt be able to get more than 1 or 2 bases' worth down in a sortie. That doesnt seem unreasonanble to me at all.

Man this whole thing is getting ridiculous.
We had complaints about fuel - now no lower than 75%

We had complaints about night - no night

We had complaints about HQ - HQ now needs at least 2 boxes of buffs to kill it. No partially down anymore.

Will agree on one thing the current field layouts make it far too easy for a single box of buffs to close stuff down.

Simaril - Whatever is done it will always be seen as taking away gameplay from others.
I liked hitting HQ, now its basically pointless, I can't even take it partially down. I liked night, its gone. So those aspects of gameplay have been 'taken' away from me and others. HT has to tiptoe a fine line, at the moment the only way to slow a hoard is to kill their troops and ammo.
