I use both eyes, and shoot lefthanded.  Shoot avg 19/20 skeet.  Just call me powder-burn-face.

One eye closed = big miss.

That and the fact that the barrel doesnt extend 18 inches past the handle, therefore making it illegal in the state of VA.

Seal school taught me to shoot with both eyes open. Then you see his buddy trying to flank you. But, thats shooting the enemy, Not a duck/deer/target/neighbor.

everything should be shot that way (except scopes above 4x, they make me dizzy, so I have to close the left when I start to figure the aim-point).

it gives you a much better SA, and a clear idea of things(or people) who are wandering into the area, and what you are likely to hit if you miss the intended target.

IMO it is crucial with moving or live targets, it gives you a much better idea of how much lead to give, and terrain that may effect if your target is staying on his original path for the next 10th of a second or so.

it takes a lot of practice to train your eyes to allow one to bring your sights in focus and the other to focus for distance.  it's hard to explain how to do it, kind of like let your eyes look at everything with out thinking to hard on looking at either.

Yet he knows what is best for U.S. gun owners. And that the NRA is "bad" even though they are the number one organization for promoting the safe and proper use of firearms. He should take an NRA safety class.

One eye closed doesn't guarantee a miss.

FYI, that is likely to be a 28" barrel shotgun. The barrel is measured from the breech end. A shotgun, or rifle for that matter, doesn't have a "handle", they have stocks. No barrel measurements for legal length are taken from the handguard (forestock).

If he took the basic firearms safety class.... the one required to buy a firearm... he would know that he needs both eye and ear protection.

He should take an NRA safety course... The NRA hunter safety course would probly discourage him from crawling along on his belly with a loaded double barrel shotgun too.

This is the buffoon that people would trust with our valuble firearms rights?

well... women and girly men who are afraid of freedom would anyway..

Arlo. We have 2 week trainings that are offered to us in the Sea Cadets. One program that is offered is Seal school (Buds) I took part in this years training, I also went to Marine tank school, and staffed 2 bootcamps. In order t ogain rank a cadet must frist complete boot camp, then they are allowed to apply for further trainings. With doing trainings a cadet must have certain correspondence courses completed. We use the same book as the real Navy. E-1 through E-7 or The B.M.R. through Cheif petty officer.

I hunted a lot with a shotgun when I was younger, before anyone told me not to close one eye, I was very accurate. I qualified expert several times with an m16 with one eye closed. It may be better to keep them both open but it isn't necessary to hit your target.

If you have reverse eye dominance your better off to close one eye also. Same with the bow.

you're absolutely right on it not being necessary.  I've shot with quite a few guys who were more accurate than I was, shooting paper with one eye closed.

it's more of a situational awareness and safety issue than accuracy.  one very critical thing it helps prevent is, when tracking a moving target, you can follow it to a direction where you find unexpected objects in your field of fire (or more accurately, they find that you've moved your field of fire to their direction).  I've seen quite a few guys hunting quail or pheasant, track it to the point where they were aiming near other people, houses, roads, or livestock.   most people (at least any that should own a gun) can keep track of their dogs and hunting partners from memory, but sometimes you find unexpected things (kids on a walk, livestock, or the local farmer doing his chores) that you had no idea were in the area.  keeping an eye open to monitor the general area, will leave you much more aware of surprises, than the one-eye tunnel vision that isn't looking at much more than sight and target.
