LOL aaron you are buyying a 56k modem when you already got one in your mobo. You are buying a heatsink when you cpu comes with one. We didnt say it wouldnt work we said you are wasting your money. And buyign a 60dollar case when you can just buy a good 40$ one and put the change on something else. But like I said ealrier why do I care not my money.

FYI Ester the stock heatsink on the 2500 \. Is perfect not alot of complaints. If he said he is buyign 10 fans. Then he has nothing to worry about.

Post by: Estes on September 04, 2004, 10:52:26 PM
You can have all the fans in that case you want. If you don't have a decent heatsink and fan, the heat is going to stay on the CPU and get hot.

Go drink some Kool-Aid.

OMG...can you read? I said that the 2500 stock heatsink is great. Even when the 2500 is OC the temps still stays around 38-47c.

And you can get a better heatsink and fan and have even cooler temps. I dunno if you can read. But you sure can't type or spell.

I live in Texas, it gets hot here. I have 6 case fans plus the CPU fan. My temps average 40-45 sometimes 50 under heavy load.

30-47c  ... lmao

that aint right at all for normal operating temps
even in a heavy resource/hardware application Program you shouldnt get that much temp varience .

ok normal temps for A 2500+ clocked @ 3200+ ( 11x200)
with air cooling  is a 4-8 deg C difference from idle to its heaviest load . if your seeing more then that then there is something wrong .

If your seeing more then 49c at an idle there is something wrong
(this goes for a outside/room temp of 95deg F )

When you 1st run /break in a 2500+ or anyother amd cpu they will run alittle hot for the 1st few days ,then they ussually drop 2-4 deg C

Note in 90 deg f weather ive never had a 2500+ @ 2.2ghz run at 40c on a "stock" hs and fan  (that heavy copper base hs holds heat like crazy and it doesnt have enough aluminum in it to shead the heat correctly )

ive tried many different fan combo's /case mods /and water cooling ive even oced a 2500+ M  to 3.6 ghz (15x240)

Aaron the only thing i see wrong is your paying to much for the 2500+ barton (the locked one to boot) you can get a 2500+ mobile barton (1.45v core unlocked ) for around $75 plus S&H

Ok im done ...  the rest of you dolts better edit befor The master shows up and takes away your toy .

Hmmmmmmmmmmm so so whats the diffrence between them????? can i get a mobile retail?? help plz
Title: They said this isent going to work
Post by: Roscoroo on September 05, 2004, 12:56:11 AM
the mobile barton is the notebook cpu, it has a 1.45 core voltage ,but it will run at the higher core voltage @ less temp

the normal barton has a 1.65 core voltage and is now a locked cpu (most will still overclock to 2.2 ghz though, which is plenty and the most stable for it)

just do a google seach for a 2500+ mobile barton and there you will find it .. I got my last one at mwave for 75 plus 6 dollars shipping.

If your not planing on clocking it to run at 2.0-2.2 ghz then the stock heatsink fan will probely work .  (providing that you have a good side case fan blowing "inward" to help it out )

there are  some good hs fan combo's for around $20 that will keep a 2500+ cool at 2.2 ghz .(beshure you use artic silver or another "Top" of the line thermal compound) use just a raindrop worth on the center of the "die"

As for your set up it looks fine .. I would suggest a nvidia video card  if your not to familier with changing drivers and tweeks though .  ( I have 3 nvidia's and 2 radions at the moment and the nvidia's always are easier to work with ,and they like ah2 better )

one thing to note is ah2 is a picky game on the higher end pc's and when looking for hardware setups were still in a trial and error basis .

just dont  try this without freon cooling or sticking your stack into a freezer ...  but this is the highest i clocked a 2500+ and it was about 90-95% stable .

(http://s90945482.onlinehome.us/roosite/images/XP2500@3614.jpg) the bad part is the ram burned up right afterwards and i had to rma it.
Title: They said this isent going to work
Post by: Roscoroo on September 05, 2004, 01:18:33 AM
oem = original equipment manufactuer
Retail = the basic part without any extra's

as for clocking it depends with two sticks of ram you can run dual channel which gives it the faster speed ,

with one stick its plenty fast but it wont oc very far at all

i suggest not going over 2.2 ghz  with a 2500 because it has stable/unstable settings and it gets kinda frustrating at times .
while ocing if it goes to far unstable .. it corrupts .dll's and you have to reformat .

ok im off to fly for awhile ... any more ???'s you can catch me in the ma .. or i'll anser later .
Title: They said this isent going to work
Post by: AaronM2 on September 05, 2004, 01:21:20 AM
hmmmm WTF does this mean i know u over clocked way over u are sposed to but how fast is it u can look at my wish list im going to have alot of fans just dont want to burn any thing up so is my ram good or no?????
Title: They said this isent going to work
Post by: Roscoroo on September 05, 2004, 01:28:16 AM
your ram should be ok . and 2.2 ghz will be ok with 2-3 case fans

beshure you have a good stable power supply also  .

id suggest a 430-480 antec ... but i have had some of the generic ones run really good also .

Title: They said this isent going to work

yes 3200+ is 2.2 ghz

the 2500+ is 1.8ghz  (but it clocks to 2.2  which is 3200+ specs thats why they say 3200+ )

oh yea
oem is without fan
retail is with fan/heatsink in the box

now im off to bed i think.

ill tell ya what i just spent for my new pc  just so you can see the difference (i rounded the prices up )and this was 2 weeks ago.

asus a7n8x-e deluxe 100.00
2 x 256 ddr  90.00
amd 2500+ Mb   81.00
hs/fan   19.00
9600pro   109.00
52x32x52 cdrw 39.00
80 gig wd 7200 hd 70.00
case w/ 400watt 25.00  (i used this for my old pc and put this one in my old case w/the 430 antec ps in it )

= 533.00 plus tax

i reused my monitor , floppy ,labtec speakers,kb,mouse, and win 98se (270.00 investment here)   and i think i paid 75 for my antec ps .

so im around 880+ tax  950 total or so .

(i sold my water cooled pc for 1200 w/ a 21 in monitor so i came out ahead  , i just have to finish my new water sytem and sacrifce anouther old 286-486 pc for its ps and case to hold the pump/radiator/resevoir tank)

your getting that ati 9800 pro card so ull spend more . but yes thats a very good card and you should be able to load the textures in video memory and still run nice frame rates .

im getting 65-80 fps with my 9600pro and i havent seen it go below 30 fps even in the biggest furballs

so your not really too far off my total mark for a nice gaming PC and something that you shouldnt have to upgrade for the next 3-4 years (even though there's all that new 64bit stuff comming out, the current 32bit 2.0 ghz and bigger  are gonna be the standard for at least that long in my opinion)

i dont think there is anything wrong with that shuttle mb .. you can always go read thru the amd forums for info about it and compare .(thats what i do when i want to try something different)

I use several different brands of mainboards . but asus was what i had in my 1st Real pc ( Asus 97v with a 500mhz k-6 amd) and that pc is still running to this day (its 7 yrs old now)

ive build a pile of asus based pc's  and i've never had a bad one yet .. (driver issue's shure , but no hardware problems)

When you get ready to assemble just ask and i'll tell you the proper static discharge tecnics and the assembly steps .

beshure you read thru all the manuals also .

im not really much of a monitor expert .. so i'll kinda bow out if you dont mind .

but i know the veiw sonics are good
and the crt type monitors are alot cheaper then the lcd type

the smaller the dot pitch and the higher the hz makes for a good monitor .(i think ive got this part correct)

I don't know about the shuttle boards for big desktop pcs.

But I have a minature PC in the entertainment center. It's a shuttle 2.6 gig. I use it for a TiVo box. I have Knopp Myth TV installed on it.

Works great for that, dunno about a gaming PC though.

If it was me, I would. If it fits your budget, dunno why not.

Your decision, and they may be good boards in big desktop, but I dunno. Just telling you my experience.

its up to you Aaron . I think LJ bomber went with the shuttle when he built his and he was very happy .

Ive just had good luck over the years with asus mb's thats why I use them as a foundation in the gamers i built .

as for the asus a7n8x-e deluxe the only problem ive had was finding the correct drivers to get it to play ah2 smoothly .
Davenrino helped me out and now i have it running like a clock and decent fps in the furballs

for the asus or any other dual channel mb you only need 2x256 or 2x512 3200 for it . stay away from the kingston value ram because it doesnt like it .. i justed used two sticks of the cheap ram in mine and its working fine .(ill have to toss in some better ram if i want to oc it hard but i dont see any need to )
