<S> to All....
I know alot of individuals and squads have expressed an interest in helping the Musketeers give a tribute and <S> for Sniper.
Here is how I would like to approach our tribute to Sniper (and please make suggestions also).
I would like to start the event at 2 pm Eastern, precisly, on Saturday Feb. 17th.
The Field in the TA will be A49.
All Musketeers, except those 4 flying the formation, are to taxi 1 at time from the fighter hangar in F4U-1C's. We'll use alphabetical order to establish the roll order. Please taxi to the opposite side of the runway and park your plane facing 90 degrees to the runway, and shut down engines. And park in a smart, wingtip to wingtip formation.
I think there will be portions of the squadrons that will want to do a fly-by as well. I will ask the 4 members from each squadron stand ready at a nearby airfield and wait for my signal to begin to roll.
The rest of the members from each squadron I will ask to go on the runway facing **SOUTH** and bail, then walk over to the **EAST** side of the runway and face the tower, after the last Musketeer has parked his plane. I will ask them to line up in parade formation north of our parked plane formation.
Then as we are forming up for our fly-by, I will ask the other squadrons to roll from ***A51*** and circle NORTH of the ***A49*** along the ***13*** grid line. Then as we have as we are doing our fly by, I will ask the other squadrons to space out and then turn SOUTH to do their own fly by, and then rtb to A48. This will happen after we do our fly-by.
I am trying to schedule this so it concludes before the snapshot at 3 pm Eastern. So if everyone that wants to attend be in the TA by 2 pm sharp, and wait in the tower for instructions that would be greatly appreciated.
***Rip, Please have your 7 Tanks move to behind the bomber hangar, and then wait for the Musketeer Planes to get parked. Once they have parked, move your tanks into position beside them****
***For those interested, we are practicing Thursday and Friday Nite in the TA at 9 pm Eastern***
Again, <S> to all!

bummer, I will be on a trip, far away from my keyboard. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
I would like to be there.
Cheers,

i will be there, will be sad.

sounds like a good plan Cobra
Only suggestions I can think of:
push the time up a little if you're worried about being done by 3 for the snapshot
A diagram of where you want parked aircraft and the honor guard standing. Then have the honor guard taki to thier area and bail (using external view). Prolly get'em lined up quicker since the kites can taxi faster than walking speed.
Dinnae forget a buff flyby. I remember alot of time in 26s and 17s with sn1p3r, and he was deffinately one of the top hands. Maybe have one of the other squads in 17s and one in 26s for a low pass on the runway.

I think it's a very good idea. It's a very neat thing to do I'm sure he would really like this. <S> Guys. I really don't know if I will be able to there. On top of that I'm not the best formation flyer.
-
Cave,
Good ideas. I'm not good at the plotting thing and posting, but I'll see if I can manage it.
I think Hang was gonna get a B26 Fly-by together, and if one of the other Bomber Squadrons wanted to get a B17 Fly-by organized that would be great.
Also, I forgot to mention....The Squad's that wish to have a 4 man fly-by team can choose the ride of their choice to do the fly-by in. The Musketeers are picking the Corsair because it was Sniper's Favorite Fighter.
Also, the squadrons that have more than 4 members show, or who don't wish to do the fly-by, remember to join the Honor Guard on the field in parade formation.
To do this, you just spawn on the runway (facing North) and hit enter 3 times to bail. This will make it able for you to walk around the field. The Honor Guard will line up on the west side of the Runway and face the Tower.

Might I suggest a 21 gun salute with 7 tanks as well? Simotaneous fire, upon your command, 3 times.. Just a thought....
Give me the green light and I will have 7 tankers in formation ready for fire.

I dinnae about ostwinds and M-16s, but 7 tanks is the closest we can come to riflemen I guess. Parked shoulder to shoulders, barrels to 10oc and max elevation... sweet idea Rip.

Although I did not have the time here to get to know him, judging from the overwhelming response to his passing he must have been a great guy. I'll be sure to be there.

I'll be there (As I am sure there will be other DD's too). Rip, if you can't find enough tankers, let me know. I am sure some DD would be honored to be part of the 21 gun salute.
SD
P.S.- Cobra, if you would like, e-mail me your e-mail, and I can make up a diagram of what you are asking and we can e-mail it back and forth until it was what you want. Then I will post it for everyone. <S!>

Rip, The Tank Salute is a great idea.
Please only Rip's tankers, no other vehicles.
The others who are not part of a 4 person squadron fly-by, I would like to have line up in Parade formation along the runway, when the word is given.
HBlair...if you could film this, that would be great. As a suggestion I would ask that you bail otr and stand infront of the tower to film the ceremony...facing the parade formations.

If anyone else rolls film of this event I would be interested in having you post a copy of the .ahf file so that those who are making videos of the event can have multiple perspectives.
I think after the event I will create a thread in the Message Board where you can post your .ahf files.

Will do, Cobra.
I've been flooded with requests to represent a tanker for the 21 gun salute, and I just want to say that I've already allowed the first 6 that requested so to represent the 21 gun salute a position. All positions are filled at this time.
Thanks.
THE PRACTICE OF FIRING THREE RIFLE VOLLEYS OVER THE GRAVE:
This practice originated in the old custom of halting the fighting to remove the dead from the battlefield. Once each army had cleared its dead, it would fire three volleys to indicate that the dead had been cared for and that they were ready to go back to the fight. The fact that the firing party consists of seven riflemen, firing three volleys does not constitute a 21-gun salute. It is the three volleys that is significant. Not the number of rifles.
21-GUN SALUTE: All personal salutes may be traced to the prevailing use in earlier days
to ensure that the saluter placed himself in an unarmed position. Salute by gunfire is a
most-ancient ceremony. The British for years compelled weaker nations to make the first salute, but in time international practice compelled "Gun for Gun" in the principle of an equality of nations. In the earliest days, seven guns was a recognized British National
Salute. Those early regulations stated that, although a ship could fire only seven guns, the forts could fire for honors three shots to one shot afloat. In that day powder of sodium nitrate was easier to keep on shore than at sea. In time, when the quality of gun powder improved by the use of potassium nitrate, the sea salute was made equal to the shore salute -- 21 guns as the highest national honor. Although for a period of time, monarchies received more guns than republics, eventually republics claimed equality. There was much confusion caused by the varying customs of maritime states, but finally the British government proposed to the United States a regulation that provided for "Salute to be Returned Gun for Gun." The British at that time officially considered the international salute to be 21 guns and the United States adopted the 21-gun and "Gun
for Gun Return" August 17, 1875. Previous to that time, our national salute was one gun for each state. The practice was also a result of usage -- John Paul Jones saluted France with 13 guns (one for each state) at Quiberon Bay when the Stars and Stripes received its first salute. This practice was not authorized until 1810. By the admission of states to the Union, the salute reached 21 guns by 1818. In 1841, the national salute was reduced to 21 guns. In fact, the 1875 adoption of the British suggestion because a formal announcement that the United States recognized 21 guns as an international salute.
