Title: Smaller Maps? Yay or Nay
Post by: Tumbler1000 on February 14, 2001, 12:44:00 PM
the last few times I've been in the Main arena it has been difficult to find a good sized furball because the Arena is so large and spread out. Does anyone else see this happening and if so do you think a smaller map would help this problem?

Tumbler,

I've generally found furballs when I go looking for them.  Make sure you zoom out to scan the whole map when looking and then just move to the nearest field.  I think Part of it depends on the time of day you're online.  Late at night there are FAR fewer people and fights tend to be much smaller, even single a/c dogfights.  I think if you make the maps smaller the balance of game play when trying to reset the fields will suffer.

yes... a smaller map would be useful but... much better, would be to use the current map but use one corner for an early war area and another for a late war area.   The early and late areas would be much smaller and that fact combined with the manuverability of the early planes would make the early war area a very fun one indeed.... oops, there's that "F" word again... sorry Amish.  How bout if we promise not to smile?

I'd have to vote nay.  I wish the map was twice it's current size.

Dear Thumbler, Furball is definatly what I hate in a flight simulator. It usually a Niki convention with B&Zming F4Cs and G10s.

As far as I'm concern, bigger is better. There is always a furball place on the map, look or "ask" for it, at least big maps gives you the opportunity to avoid them (or create them too (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)).

perhaps smaller maps would not be the solution for everyone.   Having the center island fields all "uncapturable" and "uncloseable" and not enabling bombers from them would probly be a good solution for both camps.   Island fields would not affect arena reset.

Hey Nuttz -

I keep hearing how cool your terrains are... sorry if this has been asked and answered -

are there some terrains out there that you have done which can be used for h2h games?

Thanks,

Putting touches on them now,,, the new TE was released and we needed to go back to our old maps and retouch up some things. Besides all my maps were working while playing, that compounded some problems even more. Good news: I revamped all my maps ( new tiles, new elevations, ports, fixed feilds)... Bad news: be aleast 2 weeks before they ready.

Lerger. Definately (Much larger).  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) I don't think it would affect furballs much. They will always be fairly close to the front line fields on a really large map. (It might even help concentrate them if the majority of the fields where a considerable flight time away). It would also help restrict fighters to more forward fields (Apart from defensive duties) and mean that bombers would be nearer operating alt before crossing into enemy territory, while giving fighters more time to climb to intercept and imposing realistic fuel restrictions on the bomber escorts.

Just my opinion)  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
