Post by: Waffle on September 09, 2004, 04:29:46 AM
Download HERE  (http://www.dangreve.com/wafflesounds2.5.16bit.exe)

SPACE RESEREVED FOR MIRRORS
Mirror #1 Courtesy of DokGonzo: http://www.speedgeezers.com/users/aceshigh/

Run the self-extration program and extract to desktop. This should leave you with a folder labelled "sounds".

Take this folder and place in you ah2 directory. Remove or rename the sounds folder that is going to be replaced by the one you just downloaded.

Download this file: sounds.cfg (http://www.dangreve.com/sounds.cfg)  You will have to right click and choose 'save target as'.
Then you have to rename it to sounds.cfg (it will name itself sounds - you have to add the .cfg),and set the type of file to "all files" instead of HTML document.

Place this file in your settings folder.

This file sets the volumes for this pack.

If you would like a preview of whats in store -

PREVIEW WINDOWS MEDIA (http://www.dangreve.com/previewwma.wma)

From a previous post about this pack
Yes - very large, but the mother of all soundpacks is here.

Also a word of caution before downloading, besides having cable or other hi-speed acces, is that I am running the sounds on a fast system with an older Sb audigy. I have had no troubles. But I cannot say for sure that there will not be troubles on slower systems.

Majority of this packs fixes are in engine sounds. All engine sounds were redone to a longer sample. This allows for different variations in engine sounds with-in the entire loop length - sounds here included different prop noises, mixing of external "pre-doppller" effects which work nicely with external sounds now of aircraft.

Also have some stereo sounds embbedded that do not cause problems with the ah2 sound engine.

The allied planes have have majority new operational sounds.
Ge planes have had light work done on the operational sounds.
Heavy vehicles have been tweaked some. New Mg sounds t hat actually syncs up with the rate of fire. New explosions and damge effects all around.

Anyway this should be my last pack for a long time, barring the updates for the new planes/vehicles, and or any other major sound FX change in the AH2 sound engine.

One thing I can promise about this pack. Alot of the sounds used no one has ever heard before in ANY sound pack. Most were edited from scratch, using some very handy resources that an acquaintance of mine sent to me. This included stock films and videos from his personal collection as well as audio clips.
Also included were some SFX that our mutual friend let me use from a sound studio in California.

The files that I edited and created are stamped with a unique ID that only my editing software can identify. I am asking that as long as I am around Aces High, that these files are not used, in anyway and or fashion in other sound packs.

If you want to mix and match sounds from this pack with others on your own personal PC, that is fine. But don't distribute as a part of another soundpack.

Hope you enjoy!

not sure what that is - not anything with that name in the file.

Pack and computer was scanned before and after zip with norton antivirus.

Think wrag had that worm also on his pc - he found 2 or more instances of it. From what I read, It attaches itself to .exe files.

I'm pretty sure I'm clean here - I did multiple scans when wrag let me know about that. (one updated norton antivirus - on a CA web scan - both clean.) I'm pretty consicous of keeping a clean pc.

Might try a full scan and see if you have any more instances of it.
Also turn off system restore and enter safe mode for scan.

I wonder if some virus scans don't like winrar?

Scanned system completely - nothing found. Using antivir (http://www.antivir.de).

Maybe it's coming from the site you uploaded the file. When I try download & open it I get the virus warning immediately - when I try download & save I get the virus warning as soon as it's finished downloading. Other downloads work perfectly...

Might wanna check the host...

waffle just small note on typhoon & tempest startup sound...

the real engine was a cartrige start... said to sound like a shotgun being fired when it started because of the explosive charge of the cartrige going off.

I changed this to a normal .rar file with self extraction.

I'll try to repack it into smaller ZIP's later today and put it up on my server.

BTW ... some of the sounds seemed a little muddy or hard to pick up. Stuff like explosions, flaps, slats and so on ... I guess these could be tweaked up with the cfg file. Just thought I'd mention it.
Title: WAFFLESOUNDS 2.5 out
Post by: Waffle on September 09, 2004, 03:31:41 PM
I intentionallly dropped all the flaps and gear sounds due to the fact that it seems that you can't hear them all that well in a plane with the engine running full bore.

The explosions are designed to be more "tactile" if that makes sense..... I tried some with more high end and attack and they didn't seem to fit the audio picture I was trying to create if that makes sense.

The old explosion from 2.0 are located here:
oldexplosions (http://www.dangreve.com/oldexplosions.zip)

Just unzip and listen to them first - if you like them just drag them into your sounds folder.

BTW - Thanks for the mirror Dok! :)

OK ... I repacked things into .rar files to make it easier to download. WinAce provided the smallest archives, but I don't know how many folks use that ... so WinRar seemed a good middle ground.

I included brief install instructions at the top for those who may need 'em.

Has anyone else had a problem with any of the .RAR's? It's been d/l'd a bunch of times and I haven't heard of a problem.

The LW stuff is in the 2nd one I believe (that's all on my other machine so I can't check at the moment).
Title: WAFFLESOUNDS 2.5 out
Post by: Waffle on September 11, 2004, 02:24:06 AM
Bluj -

another option to that step is to goto your settings folder, then look for "sounds.cnfg" and open that using notepad. (right click, open with....select notepad)

This should open up a list of files with volumes. Maker sure all are set at .80 except for master/overall volume = 1.0, then External Engine (1.0) and Engine (.85)

save and close.

or you can use the intereface on the AH clipboard.

also, if you're not hearing anything, make sure you dont have a "sounds" folder inside the "sounds" folder.

OK ... I just d/l'd this and I guess it took a hit during the upload.

Either that or WinRAR screwed something up building the file.

I'll sort it out tomorrow on my main machine where I have all the originals.

Great sounds Waffle, I'm really actually enjoying getting shot down, it just sounds so cool!

One thing though, this is just a personal preference, but what's the name of the sound that has the fellows talking about not having any infantry...  I find it too repetetive, no offense :)

Although, I will admit, the first time I heard it I had a great big smile across my face :D

Thanks,
Title: WAFFLESOUNDS 2.5 out
Post by: DoKGonZo on September 11, 2004, 02:31:20 PM
OK ... file #2 is now fixed on the mirror.

This file has all the LW sounds (#3 has all the US, #4 all the Allies and Japanese, #1 all the environmentals and GV's). The D-9 engine is awesome when you go into a power dive.

Sorry for inconvenience.

Also, the reason I have these big files split is to keep the server load down. If you get a bunch of folks d/l'ing a huge file over slow lines that hurts the performance. Which in turn affects the response times you get (i.e. time-outs and bad crap like that). We host a lot of stuff on the server and we like to keep the performance brisk for everyone.

Vudak - that sound is the warning, instead of getting the "base under attack" sound.

There are several in the pack, some humorous - you just have to rename the current warning.wav to something else, and then name whatever one you want to use to warning.wav.

I liked the sounds of the printle guns on gvs better before. Now they sound sorta arcade. Love all the rest of the sounds.
Title: WAFFLESOUNDS 2.5 out
Post by: Waffle on September 12, 2004, 04:21:04 PM
Yeah, I'm still kinda in a toss-up about the pintle gun sounds - the current one is actual sample taken from a mg34 fired in a studio anechoic chamber. This might have to do with the fact that is sounds dry and not like it's being fired in an open evirionment.

I'm making a list of small fixes right now and will add that to look at. Might just change some eq, maybe add some reverb to it and It might sound ok.

The one pintle gun sound in the previous versoin- the rate of fire audibly was alot slower. The current one actually fits the rate of fire.

Right now so far for fixes for the next version are cleaning up some engine pops / noises in the loops. fixing the pt boat - I fugged it up from previous version..lol

But like I said, I wont really have anything out patch/pack  wise until I find out if there are any new audio additions, ect with AHv2.1 and when we find out what the new planes / vehicles are.
These things are a never ending process I'm finding out - always editing, changing things, ect...think they sound good...get in game play for awhile - opps, don't like that...on and on and on.... :)

Very nice work, Waffle.

Are your flaps/gear sounds ones you don't want being used in other packs?
Title: WAFFLESOUNDS 2.5 out
Post by: Waffle on September 12, 2004, 06:50:38 PM
Pretty much, I don't want any sounds that I edited for use in other soundpacks. If you use them mixed and matched on your own system, that's fine.

Just one of those things about spending time to create a soundpack from scratch and then having multiple parts of your work show up in different packs. It kind of takes the individuality of the work that someone does in editing and mixing sounds.

that's why if people like mitsu's pack and the way he hears things, they use his. If folks like yours, they use yours, If folks like mine, they use mine.

If people like parts of one and not the other, they are free to mix and match on their own pc. But if everyone doing soundpacks started taking sounds from other soundpacks and calling them "their" soundpack - there's no originality in that. No new sounds get created. That's where the fun is for me - is creating sounds.

Like I said before, it would be like doing a skin and releasing it, ony to see it somewhere with a ID number changed and maybe a squad logo added, then someone calls it their skin. When 99% of the work was done by you.
Title: WAFFLESOUNDS 2.5 out
Post by: Fruda on September 12, 2004, 08:23:55 PM
I agree with that.

My pack's gonna take quite a while longer. I still need extra GV sounds, plus flaps/gear for each plane.

Very cool sound pack sir :aok

I love the wind sound when I dive down in my 109-E4 :D

Also the engine when dive bombing in the stuka sounded almost like a dive siren.

I had problems with the outsice engine sound tho
Before I could hear when some one sneak up on me, but now all planes fly silently around me.

A Zero came behind me, and I did not hear him even as he was D200. I have set engine sound down and externals are full up.

I am getting a new sound card today / tomorrow, I hope it helps.

If you have any ideas on the externall sounds, please tell me.

Great job, I recomend all to try this sound pack :aok
Title: WAFFLESOUNDS 2.5 out
Post by: Waffle on September 15, 2004, 02:35:06 PM
Yes, The exteranl sounds are significantly quiter when ever you have your engine on. For some reason I though the was fixed, but maybe it's back...but as soon as you turn off your engine the sounds jump back up to a full volume.

No offense Waffle, I just didn't like it that much.  Plus it was incredibly annoying how over half of the planes didn't have a stall horn installed in their folder.  This pissed me off because I didn't know until I was in a fight.
Title: WAFFLESOUNDS 2.5 out
Post by: Waffle on September 15, 2004, 04:24:20 PM
if they dont have a stall horn, they use the default stall.
Also make sure all your volumes are set at 80....
if they are not set at defaults, then some sounds will get buried.

It gets annoying especially when it cuts over vox...

How do I remove that single sound? Rest is fantastic.

I had them in this forum, but when it slipped away, I took them off the Picture Hangar, which I use to do all my Picture posting.

Anyway, I'll repost them in a new thread when I get some time, With some new sounds in it.

Right now, There seems to be a problem where you can only have one reload sound.

Heres whats in it.

1. Panzer IV 75mm
2. Tiger I 88mm
3. German Reload "Nach Laden Schnell!" or "Reload Quick"
4. American Reload "Reload!"
5. German Hit, I cant spell it in German, But it says "Were on Fire!! or Were Burning!"
6. American Hit, "Get out, before we Burn!"

Adds a little more life to your GV adventures.

laser - I checked the default stall and it is a little low decible wise.
I corected it and will be fixed next release.

Until then - there are several versions of stall in various aircrafts.
If you find one you like, you can open that folder and copy the stall sound, then paste it into whichever folder you like.

Also make sure that besides the aircraft/gvs folders in the sounds directory - there are also individual wav files. These would be the sounds that would play if there is not a file in the individual folders.

Tex - - the file name for that is "warning.wav" you can turn it down manually in the "game options-sounds settings" menu.

If you don't like that particular file - there are other warning files in there - you just have to rename the file to warning.wav to work.

Yeah the HTC crew put that lousy sound there.  I just replaced waffles sound mitsus "Enemy Inbound" but i altered it and put it over an air raid siren sound.... works well.

I always liked mitsus sounds and I am glad so many people are working to improve the game, but in quality and clarity this is the best sound pack in the game right now.

Edited for shameless self promotion.:)

heres some update news for Wafflesounds 3.0

-  Fixed 50 cals on US GVs and Us planes.

-  Tweaked GE Mg34 sounds on vehicles

-  Trying several variation of tankguns sounds.

-  Edited Niki engine for loop pop.

-  51 engines / 262/163 cleaned up some "peak" noise that
caused some crackling in the sounds.

-  tweaked some GV sounds - panzer tread for loop pop.

-  Fixed Pt boats sounds - messed em up pretty good
   this version. :)

-  added material specific hit/damage/stress sounds.

-  Have a few new plane sounds in the works.

-  Finishing up some more stereo sounds for individual aircraft.

Also waiting on 2.1 to see what additional craft will be added and if AH2.1 sounds are updated. Will fix/create sounds based on the new 2.1

I'm thinking antivir might have a problem with the winrar process.

All files clean - 3 virus scans here.

Downloaded several winrar files from elsewhere no problem!?

Something in the soundpak or the site seems to set it off.

Will try again later AnitVir just updated again.  Perhaps and email to the software developer may help?

Silat, the clicking you hear is the P38s style 'stall horn'.

Scott,

The P51 is an actual recording. I used an interior vantage point of the 51 and then created a loop based on the external sounds of a 51 flying overhead. I had to get creative and try to reverse the doppler effect that the external sound had. Then I mixed the 2 sounds. They aren't exactly the same sound that you would hear from flying on, but I believe that it adds a bit of what everyone "knows" audibly of a plane in flight. Plus it helps when the sounds are being used externally in the game.  ie if you're in a vehicle, tower, hanger ect....

AH only has one sound source for both internal/external sounds - so I found a happy medium which seems to work well.

Stall clicker, something the Lightning had in real life instead of the crap air horn it has in the game.

I'm sorry, the P38 stall horn is the most obnoxious and distracting sound I have ever heard. I hate to depart futher from realism, but I can't fly with that sound. Not to mention, it doesn't give enough audio cues in my opinion...

It is my ONLY complaint of Waffle's packs. They really are great though, please, don't let my single complaint prevent you from downloading and using it.

if you dont like the clicker type stall, find another aircraft with a stall that you like and replace the "stall.wav" file in the p38 folder with a different one.

OR you can just delete the stall.wav file from the 38s folder and it will use the adjusted default stall buzzer...the one labelled stall.wav that is in the sounds foldr, and not in an aircraft / gv folder.

Also pls remember to have all sounds set at 80 in your sounds set-up -  except for external engine - set that at 100. Otherwise you could have issues with sounds jumping out or sometimes being obnoxiously loud.

snefens flutter effect stall feels most realistic to me.
its like a combination of the vibration you would feel and amplified sound you would hear. its very very good in my opinion and I use nothing else for the stall sound.

I dont think ww2 aircraft had the stall horn anyway.

That's why a long time ago I started using a P-38 stall clicker sound that I had found from some P-38 mod for MSCFS.  The clicks will increase in pitch the closer you come to the edge, really help me in turn fights.

AHSH will let you replace or mute specific sounds. Which means you can easily switch back and forth. It will also play the sounds. among other things.

The web site is about to get a major face lift. The initial upload was just to see how it worked. The whole site has been reworked, but not re-posted yet. If you have any problems before I upload the revised version let me know.

Well started back up on editing in anticipation of the 2.1 release.
Last night I worked on some of my "default gun" sounds which the italian / japanes / British planes use. I've also "beefed up" the GE guns abit. Also for the p38 and f4u1-c - they have a new authenticicated cannon sound.

I also toned down the high frequency attack of the gun sounds, but I might go use the 303 sounds that are currently being used just for the British planes.

add those to this list of fixes:

New 50 cals on US GVs and Us planes.

- Tweaked GE Mg34 sounds on vehicles

- Trying several variations of tankguns sounds.

- added material specific hit/damage/stress sounds.

- Have a few new plane sounds in the works.

- Finishing up some more stereo sounds for individual aircraft

Hey Swager -

Go to My computer, and look for a "sounds" folder. in your Aces High directory.

Right click the folder in your Aces High directory and rename it "Soundsdefault"

Now take the folder labelled "sounds" that's on your desktop - and place that in the Aces High directory. There should be folder there like "settings" "terrains" ect...

that should be all you have to do.

Just a note for CYLONN.  I had the same problem with the download in that I got a screen full of code rather than the file downloaded to disk.  I was using Netscape, so I switched to Internet Explorer and it downloaded the file no problem.  I obviously have something set wrong in Netscape.

Just FYI.

elfie -

when you right to to save target as -

it will bring up a box where you wnt to save it as.
in this box you can change the name if you want to...but don't..

under the name of the file, it says html something or other, i believe.
pulldown and change it to "all types" instead of HTML
