Got a Saitek X45 setup last night. Man, I look like a drunk chimp trying to work it all. Hopefully will get used to it pretty quick. I could immediately see a big improvement from the twisty stick Logitech though, having the rudder control on the throttle is pretty cool.
Any of you X45 or similar combo guys got any set up tips?

if you find your hand getting sore trying to reach the rudder rocker on the bottom of the throttle, try mounting the throttle box with the front 45* up this takes alot of strain of your wrist.

Just got a refurbed one for 40 bucks, has some wear and tear but I love it so far.
Whats the trick for the throttle again? I don't really understand it.
Another problem is the joystick spring or the convex pad. It "groans", telling me that there is friction, which is giving me adjustment problems.
What do you guys recommend?

I spray some Silicone spray on a tip and put it on the sticck below that rubber gromet deal. Dont spray in to that directly. Just rub some on that and you should see a big difference. :)

You can just run a wax candle between the dish shaped plastic thingy on the stick to smooth it out (less risky than an oil based solvent in the long run...and seems to last pretty long).
The throttle thingy means to have the entire throttle assembly angled up (like its doing a wheelie going away from you). This makes the rocker rudder less of a reach around and can help with the inevitable wrist strain you get of the throttle is and higher than your waist....ya know like on your desk.

Yeah it is kinda uncomfortable, I'll be out in the shop construting something to hold it like you are talking about.
The hand space on the j/s is a little too small too, my fingers are all bunched up in there, gets kinda uncomfortable.

Silicone won`t last too long as other lubes I`ve tryed.
I hit upon something that works great and will stick with you for a long stretch.
Go to a hardware store or Hardware dept. in Wally World, etc Find a tube of Plumber`s valve and faucet grease. Put some on a Q-tip, lean stick forward or to one side and slide the Q-tip under the rubber boot to apply grease to the ball. Make a couple of rotations to the stick and your done. It will make the stick as smooth as silk and will stay for quite some time.
