Title: Big S! to Ghosth
Post by: Mathman on January 07, 2001, 11:45:00 PM
Just thought everyone should know that Ghosth took a lot of time tonight to help out a newbie named Sig.  Just wanted to give him a shout out saying that I appreciate his effort.  I know what he was going through, as it is similar to what I do for a living.  Hope everyone appreciates his efforts to teach the newbies and increase the size of our community through his patience and helpfulness.

Ghosth has the patience of a Saint! I have to admit I sometimes loose my "cool" with all th newbies in the MA lately asking "How do I fly?"... I never saw him loose his cool   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I have to appologise to the poor bugger (forgot the Newbie's name)... we were 3 on a Jabo mission far in enemy territory, Ghosth was helping him setting up, I got him to follow us and got him in a LOT of troble on his 1st sortie, hehehe SORYYYYYYYYYY !!!!!   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Ghosth is a great guy. He keeps putting up with me when we wing together. Lately, I've been sucking so bad that I get killed right away, leaving him to deal with the six Spitfires that we just engaged!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

The man has a great attitude.

Member of the 332nd Flying Mongrels voted for the Wingdog of the year:

"Who has come to your aid, been a true and dedicated wingman willing to give their score for yours. When you think of a wingman, who in the squad comes to mind? Who would you pick above all others to be your wingman?"

Wingdog of the Year goes to X.O. Major Bill "ghosth" Jamison was by far the first choice of this! Congratulations Ghosth!

Two years ago when I started to fly in WB, Ghosth and Dracer were the 2 folks I could count on to take the time and have the  patience to help me get started. <S> Ghosth!

Yah, he's alright for a North Dakotan...say, did he ever tell you the real reason that the  highschool football teams in Fargo play on artificial turf?  It's to keep the cheerleaders from grazing!

This award it given by peers of the 332nd Flying Mongrels once a year.  We vote on it at year end and I ask members to reflect on who out of all our members, they would want as a wingman.  Overwhelmingly Ghosth was the first choice for the Year 2000!  I should add this is not our highest award, but the Dog of the Year is.  Ghosth has won that also in 1998  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

For some info and list of all the awards he has earned in our squadron see the link below.  http://www.ropescourse.org/ghosth1.htm (http://www.ropescourse.org/ghosth1.htm)

Ghosth has been my X.O. for over 2 years and has run this squad when I could not.  I have had the pleasure of meeting him face to face and learned that he has overcome difficulties in his life that most of us could not imagine.  Sure he is a great player in this sim, but also a great person who through great adversity can still enjoy life.

Ghosth, I am and always will be your friend.
Live long and prosper.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Damm, now look what you've all done, you've got me so choked up it's raining on my keyboard. sniff

(Big sigh)

This is hard but perhaps this is a good time to explain daddogs comment. My wife says I am a very private proud man, so telling others of my personal problems never has been easy for me.

I have always it seems had a tough row to hoe, born with a pitutitary insufficiency (dwarfism) I graduated high school at about 4 feet tall. (Tough to find prom dates when your that short! )  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

However, thanks to some good doctors at Mayo clinic, and a powerfull lot of help from the big guy upstairs I eventually grew to the amazing hieght of 5' 8".  The pituitary gland
controls all of the body's other glands. Since mine doesn't work right I always have had problems with stamina & energy. Not to mention going through puberty in your late 20's being a real drag.

But life goes on & what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Against all advice (did I ever mention that I'm a tad stubborn?) I managed to work for 30 years, most of it outside, hard physical satisfying work.

However, about a year & half ago for no known reason my adrenal glands just stopped working. While I am on replacement therapy that does help. It's kinda like takeing the engine out of your sports car & replaceing it with an rechargeable weed eater motor. Yes it runs, just not very far or very fast.

So if you see me fly for an hour or 2 then suddenly just fade away you'll know I'm just back at the garage rechargeing my battery.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

We all have handicaps of one sort or another to deal with as we walk through this journey we call life. While mine may have been harder than some I have also been very very lucky. I have a loveing wife and daughter, a comfortable home. I have more true friends than any one man ever deserved.

Some people define success with a fancy house & new car, others by the size of their stock portfolio. I define success as getting up one more time than I get knocked down. Getting up from this last one has indeed been tough. I never would have made it if it hadn't been for all of you out there.

Daddog you & the rest of the mongrels may never know just how much you've helped by just being there. The same goes for all of you out there, bishop, rook, or knight.

Thanks to everyone who reads this for letting me get this off my chest. That also helps lighten the load a bit.

So here's a bit <S> to all of you. You've lightened my load, brightened my day, and made MY world a better place to be. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!

Ghosth is certainly one of, if not, the best guy(s) in the arena. I still remember the day a long while back when I was having an absolutey crappy day in the MA with the plane I was flying. Then he gives me the advice to try out the Macchi C205 and take it up for a spin _AND_ flies wing with me. The rest of that night I was killing much more than dying and couldn't(still can't) express my thanks to him for it. I too have a "story" of my life but it pales in comparison to Ghosth's. Simply amazing what you've done inside the game to help out new guys and old guys alike. Never seen your temper flare, somehow you manage to keep your cool even under the hottest of situations.
You're a class act and set a new height of decency for people to try(and fail because it's so hard) to achieve.
Big AK Salute! to you Ghosth, you are one of the greatest people I've come to know online.
S! again and thanks!

Ya, that Ghost is a helluva great guy. See I was having this problem getting close enough to a bogey to get the shot when "good ole Ghost" made me one  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Seriously, the man does have the patience of Job, and a damn smart stick.
