In essence, we drive away folks that might get into these games. We demand that all games not only approximate reality, but we insult and impugn anyone who doesn’t fly it that way. If a game comes out that doesn’t conform to our view of reality or isn’t totally ‘accurate’, we slam it to the point that people don’t want to buy the thing.
This statement describes the attitude of the AH community to the T... But doesn't mean that its the wrong approach... Just one guys opinion...right?!

Im sad to say that kurt is right and so is the article.

There is no huge long term problem, just a change. As computers become more powerful and 3d tools become quicker and easier, we will get great sims made by small companies or even freeware user groups. I have been wating for a long time for a 3d engine dedicated to flight sims, and was hoping that AH2 would be it....I still hold out hope, but until they release all the visual goodies we wont know (Higher res textures for the ground and trueform like smoothing to eliminate the damned pointy mountain syndrome, and something to replace those ugly fires.)
Just take a look at what FREEFALCON (http://www.freefalcon.com/content/content.php) has done for Falcon 4...its like a whole new game.

that article is right on the monsey. The simming community will be the death of itself.

My impression this article is just the writings of a burn-out. Seen it before, will see it again.

I do believe the flight sim area is waning. Here at college the closest thing that kids think is a flight sim is "Battlefield 1942".
All my friends save a few would rather play the flashy, action-packed FPS game like UT2004 or Doom3. They look at me playing IL-2 or Aces High and ask "why?"
I cut my teeth on Aces over Pacific games and it took me away from those action games because it was scalable in difficulty and realism.
Flight sims just don't come out with much fanfare anymore.
