No offence, but I don't think many here are going to be excited of our guys getting shot up and killed.

Beetle will buy it.

Im guessing there are plenty of people around the planet, even americans that would like to buy historical guncam footage.....even if its allied/americans beeing shot down.
Can you really disagree with that Martlet/Saburo? Nothing wrong with it either. Plenty of it around on Discovery etc without anyone thinking its wrong in any way.

Why would I disagree with that? It has nothing to do with what I was inferring, though.

Oh, I agree with you actually as it is interesting. But being a majority here are Americans, not many here will be excited about it. Both your statement and mine above it can be true at the same time. No one likes to see their own killed.
This quote just turned me off:
Head to head approach with B-24. Fast rate of closure with hits at or just above cockpit. B-24 is part of formation dropping bombs. B-24 is struck while bombs are seen being released.
Just imagined the pilot and copilot being practically torn up with 20mm's.
I'll pass on that DVD.

I can understand that
-
Anyone selling DVDs where Allies are bombing Dresden ?
-
Does anyone else see the irony between Saburos comments and the name he uses?
Sakai shot down plenty of Americans.

He did that out of duty. Perhaps you might want to look into his attitude about killing after the war.
-
I know Sakai's attitude on the subject.
As you put it, he was doing his duty. What do you suppose the Germans attacking the bombers were doing?

Their duty as well. Does not mean that one has to "like" the idea of their own being killed. We didn't ask for that war, it was forced on us. We didn't ask for the Germans to invade and try to take over all of Europe, then the rest of the world. We didn't ask for the Japanese to attack us at Pearl Harbor. The Axis Govt's brought this unto themselves by the very nature of their attacks that pretty much is credited with starting WWII.
Having said that, I don't "like" that the innocent civillians @
Dresden, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, etc., etc. getting killed.
BTW I am not infirring that anyone here "likes" the killing. Just clarifying my position since it appears it is not clear to you.

im interested in the attack type, and method of firing.
i seen tons of footage 110 vs b17 close dead six, b17 gets taken out bad.
sad yes.
but trying to get a feel for the real life of a WWII pilot.
remember more than 1/2 luftwaffe were not nazi party, and did not do it for hitler.
in wartime it is hard to judge the honorable fighting of anyone.
NOTICE honroable... not terrorist suicide bombing junk.
ALSO sometimes people fight for country not cause.
-
Not to speak for him, but I think the point he was trying to make is it just hits you differently when it's your countrymen. Not that it's better or worse, it's just different.
-
i feel equally sad, my own countrymen or not. If you feel sad when it's your countrymen only, you don't show patriotisum, you show a side of your personality.
nevertheless, there's always something strangely attractive to look at other's people death.
-
When it's Americans dying at the hands of the Nazis, I do not like it at all.
Germany was the reason WWII happened. No other reason.
-
I've seen footage from three sides, as most that care to watch it have. I don't feel excited when I see an American aircraft getting a kill on another country's aircraft, or pilot on another country's pilot if you want to look at it that way. I do however think about the poor bastard that just got shot down. Or the 10 poor bastards that just got shot down if it's footage of LW shooting down B17's.
Of course, does anyone have trouble watching footage of artillery firing on enemy positions? It's fairly impersonal, as is most guncam footage. You rarely, if ever, see the pilot or crew that were in the splashed plane.
Ok, maybe a bad example, but I think my point was made.
I'm more upset with the selling of this footage. I would assume that this would be government material that should be free for all to see, and needs to be kept in the public eye.
edit: I understand those that find it disturbing to watch an aircraft with a person in it getting shot down, likely ending that persons life. Those that enjoy watching one side doing the shooting, and are upset by the other side doing the dieing in 60 year old footage should probably take a look at themselves.
-
i love watching gun cam footage, its watching history. I try not to think of the poor guy(s) in the plane, and look at it by just looking at the aircraft.
I cant remember who it was.. think it may have been McCudden who said "i was amazed to actually see a person at the controls!" concerning the fact that he had automatically just seen the aircraft as his enemy, and the realisation that there is actually someone in there flying it kinda shocked him ;)
Oh, and i already have a lot of that guncam footage in a .mov file i think. 2 LW training video's.

I would.
I noticed its half the price of the Allied P-47/P-51 footage. Lesser quality of film maybe?
Anybody own any of these and care to post a review before I lay out my cash?
