Title: Silly Little Things People Do
Post by: Vudak on September 11, 2004, 03:22:19 PM
A few nights ago, I'm in the MA, Baltic map, somewhere over the water, not near any particular base.  I'm approached by three high FW's.  I fly into them, ACCEPT the fact that I am FLYING INTO them, and begin a BnZ defense. (I personally think that 3v1 are fun sometimes).

Ok, so I've already concluded that the odds will be stacked against me, and I'm fine with that.  I didn't turn tail and run, I went in after them and mixed it up.

Of course, after I dodge a few passes, and the E of any one FW is starting to equalize with me (note, not the angles, there are still three of them, one of whom is staying relatively high, I can't saddle up), a fourth FW comes in.  Ok, that's cool, I can handle that, at least three are lower E, he's the real danger.

Yet a few minutes later, something happens that really blows my mind.  A 5th, 6th, and 7th!!! FW all blow their alt (we were all at maybe 3-5k by now) to come slashing away at me.  I saw them up there before they dove, and they were well over 10k.

Now the interesting thing is, I'm not in a perk plane.  I'm not in an La7, Spit, Pony, D9, Niki, or anything like it.  I'm in a 109G2.

I have this engagement on film.  I feel that it is a pretty darn good example of a silly little thing that people do.  Although I agree, if you fly into a base where you have lost your cap, and find yourself surrounded, you really have no justification to complain.  This scenario is a little different, and one that I've sadly been seeing a lot of from all three sides.

This is a scenario where I've cheerfully gone in against bad enough odds (3v1), over neutral territory, only to have it replaced by 4v1, 5v1, 6v1, and finally 7v1.  Every last one of these FW's dove quite a bit to get to me.

And what happened when they finally got me (over six minutes, and nearly all their E later)?  Well, they had no E left and were slaughtered by my belated country mates :D  All's well that end's well.

I just kind of felt like a mouse being tossed about by a bunch of kittens.

Personally, I feel that the 5th, 6th, and 7th FW at the very least would have been better off keeping their E, and going off to wherever they originally intended to when they took off.  I guess kills are hard to come by in Rookland? (J/K, This definately goes on in all three countries, largely to the same extent)

At any rate I think this is a pretty good example of what has been going on in the MA as of late.  I've only been on AH for a few months, so I can't tell if this has always been going on to this extent.

I see Knights and Bishops do this too.  The first enemy that comes by is swarmed.  The next enemies that come by have alt because you were all too preoccupied ganging up on that one sole fellow.

I'm sorry for the long post, and I hope it didn't come off as too much of a whine.  I'll still be flying into those three and four vs. ones because I think they are fun.  I just think the game would be much better off if people would all draw the line somewhere.  I know I'm not blowing my E I've spent the past few minutes climbing for just to fight over some table scraps I probably won't get anyway.

Just something a lot of people evidently may want to think over.

Yup see it all the time.
Especially the everyone dives after the first con that comes in.

Same here.

I hate seeing 6 or 8 Rooks going after 1 enemy for 10 minutes while the enemies buddies just pound the base or carrier to pieces.

Keep some altitude guys!

There's plenty of red cons to go around.

Can;t be that tough to ask the guy in the fight if he needs help.  Could be he likes a knock down drag out fight of his own and he tells you he's fine.

Or you might get the , hurry up and get down here line.

I made 8 kills in 5-10 minutes when various planes thought it was abnormal my 202 was putting up a fight otd. It was pretty funny.
Only name I remember is an AK who planted it right next to me.

Vudak.

sounds like you ran into the JBs
Everyone knows their motto is "one for all and all ON 1"
LOL

Seriously though I see this alot also. And this makes a dandy tactic for attacking bases and CV's.
Send a couple of planes in ahead of yoru main force  to attack the base (Cannon fodder so to speak) They dive in on the base and 9 times out of 10 the bulk of defenders will blow their alt and chase after that one or two planes comming in in a race for the kill and completely ignore the big blob on dar comming in behind em.

Try it sometime and you will see this tactic works. Almost every single time.

Drives me nuts when I see knights doing it. And they do it alot.
Fortunetly the bish and rooks do it just as often

If I see five guys on one unfortunate enemy, and I know that more and higher enemies are inbound, you'd better believe that I'll swoop in and put an end to things.  I'd rather have those five friendlies unfixated and with some decent energy to confront the incoming guys.  If they're wasting time on a lone enemy, they ultimately do themselves and me little good.

See but the flipside to that is if by some unfortunate accident you don't manage to kill him quickly.. you've now got 6 low, fixated guys instead of 5.

That's exactly what I thought when I was fighting them, but upon reviewing the film, nope, not a single JB around! I really should have known  though, every time I've run into a similar situation with the JB's it has not taken them anywhere near six minutes to kill me!

Shane and TDeacon - I will not post names.  This wasn't meant to be a post for flaming someone for being dweebs, and so many people do this that to post the names of the small fraction of people I ran into wouldn't be worth it.

This was a post that was suppossed to get people thinking about if ganging up on someone to that extent was really in their  best interests...  Now Leviathan posted a reason for why it might be, Urchin posted the flipside, this is getting to be some sort of discussion :)

Drediock - I guess that's a pretty good way of using this situation to an advantage.  If life throw's you a bad pitch, lean in to it and take first for free...

Don't get me wrong, the fight was really quite a bit of fun, if you run into more than one FW at a time, at least you have a chance they'll stick around and fight.  It was basically towards the end of it that I had to roll my eyes and say to myself "you've GOT to be kidding me".

I thought you were going to say something like what people do while flying or talk..

For me I usually do a roll after a kill or buzz the tower. On the squad channel I'd say "Scratch One"
