Reflective skins are a beeeeach. HT's adversion to blue, flat colors when viewed out the cockpit
etc. etc. What you end up is shades of flat grey.
I downloaded a beautiful IL-2 skin of the this subject and pasted the wing on to see how it
looked out of the cockpit. It looks blah in shades of blue and grey. Prolly does in IL-2
also, I don't know.
All one see's when flying is what's out the canopy. Blue DOES NOT work so HT's adversion
is well founded. Too much grey doesn't either.
Messing a reflective skin up and making it look beat up didn't work for me either. The flat color
out of the cockpit is the cross to bear in that case also.
I like it, it's clean, it's mean. On top of that I lost my PSD file for the fuse on the last adjustment.
What a dope.
If it wasn't the last, I would have seriously hurt myself. Post up at the Skin site and submit tomorrow.

Best jug skin evar..., IMHO. Deep thanks, NP.
Glad to hear someone else goofs up saving those PSD files too - the same thing happened to my bare skin P-51B fuse psd - accidentally saved it as 'indexed' rather than RGB with layers. For the number of times I saved and go check how a skin looks in game, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.
I'd like to try your bare metal technique on the 51B if you're willing to share it. Also, I found Mechnix's P-51B skin to be a good example of weathering bare metal. He did a real nice job with scuff marks on the panel lines and uneven, shadowed surfaces.

Thanks guys.
Oboe I'll post it at the skin site tomorrow. What I found is that less worked out better. It's just very light greys with a hint of blue. Artificial highlites on the fuse and wings. The fuse skin shows alot of blues but what is actually shown ingame has very little of it.
If you look at the wing skin you'll see it's pretty much light grey and white blended with a hint of blue. With the squiggly stuff faded off quite a bit.
What steered me in that way is looking out the cockpit at the wing. It's still pretty blah, but if you get "fancy" with the colors it doesn't look good looking out the window :D
Glad you like it !!

Hey, I don't really fly P-47s, but with that skin, I will have to start! Awesome work man!

Bee-yew-tee-full NP:D Thanks for all your hard work.

nopoop tail numbers in USAF serial style? they look a bit odd.
also can you make the rivets more transparent on the wings on future planes?
the il2 style of having lugnuts for rivets looks very cartoonish to me. on all the planes ive flown even raised rivets dont stand out that much when viewed from the cockpit. they are ussually visible but do not draw attention to themselves.
on the fuselage is fine the way they are because that cant be seen from inside.
-
Yes they are Cit, I'll try putting stencil spaces in them, let me fiddle.
I'll fiddle with the rivit thing also, I agree with you. For some reason skinning always tends to focus on rivits for some reason. On the drab wings it looks ok, with natural I'm searchin for a balance.
-
Ok backed way off on the rivits on the wing. Exterior shot puts them at the same transparancy as the fuse rivits. I like it.
Noticed I have to rework the horizontal stablizer...
Jeez..

I've got two ready to submit but RL has left them zipped and ready. So I can still mess with them.
