Title: Texture Reload?
Post by: Misfit on September 11, 2004, 10:22:44 PM
I dont know if this had been brought up before or not? I will be flying for a while when #BLAME# everything on the screen goes white and all the textures are reloaded. This usually happens over an enm base.

This has happened with 2 different video cards.

XP Pro service pack 2
2ghz P4
Shuttle 60R motherboard
512 DDR 400 Crucial
Audigy Gamer
FX5900XT/FX5700Ultra
DX9C

All current drivers. Both video cards we installed at seperate times. I also just put in TrackIR PRO (Cant remember if the problem started after i hooked this up)

Any Ideas?

O and im using 512 textures
1024 x 768
Vertical sync On
32bit color

I have the exact same problem, except it happened over a friendly field, a19

Thing is, it happened many times at the same field over the last few days

Me too and then I tried the following:

I checked off the box in vid. settings which allows me to load all textures into system mem. then I restricted my FPS to 60 fps, instead of unlimited, and I have no more problems. This uses a lot of memory but, it doesn't seem to have any negative effects, as opposed to what I was getting before I did this.

I preload textures and my fr is already limited to 60 by my monitor and I still get textures reloading sometimes. Usually at the worst possible moment too. I am using an FX5700LE card.

I've seen AH use over 700 megs of ram(although thats with 1024 textures) most likely with only 512 megs you're running out of ram.

What cards are you other guys using?
Im starting to see a pattern here, so far it looks like FX cards:(

Yep, I have the same problem with the exact same card. When I dump the preloaded stuff on the ram, it happens less, but when I pre-load it onto the vid card its awful.

Well i tried the preload to ram and 60fps max. Im affraid to say it didnt work

Gonna go ahead and put my 5700ultra back in, its faster.

system specs

XP home SP1 + most recent updates/security fixes

DX 9b

Athlon XP2500+ (1.83Gh- default)

512 Mb PC2700 RAM (at default speed/timings)

GeForce FX5600 256Mb (at default speed, set to performance)(52.16 drivers)

Asus A7V8X-X (onboard sound disabled from BIOS)

Audigy2 zs platinum pro for sound

Was using default textures 1024 i believe, and the pre loading into system ram was causing loss of UDP so i turned that off.

OK...

Today i bought 1Gb of crucial 2700 DDR ( i know i could have got the faster stuff and OC/d the frontside bus, but nothing i use this PC for needs that much speed except AH)

I also reduced the textures to 256Mb and set it to pre load into video ram

I'll try that and see what, if anything is different

I disabled other plane skins and went back to preloading textures in RAM. So far i have not had a problem in a few days.

Ya i run a virus scan regularly so hope i dont have any thing on the system.

You should also run scans for Trojans and Spyware. I had Norton anti virus installed (it was updated regularly also) and it didnt catch the viruses that were on my comp.

so how did you end up finding em?
Title: Texture Reload?
Post by: Elfie on September 20, 2004, 07:08:09 PM
AVG (anti virus) found the viruses and Trojans, SpywareGuard found the spyware. But, so many problems had been created by all that malicious software, I would fix one thing and 2 more things would pop up. So I decided to just go with a fresh install of windows and add some security proggies to prevent (hopefully) this same scenario from happening again.

Silat directed me to the AVG AV software and some other software to help protect myself in the future. Also, he spent hours and hours on the phone with me trying to correct the issues I had.
