yep... a space western with no aliens and lots of cool firearms and women with nice butts... snappy dialogue.. self reliance..
this was a great show. Like a star trek for men.
I hear they are filming the movie with all the same characters and whedon is the director. suppossed to be out in early 2005

A little overboard with the space western theme but a well written show.
-
I got it all on CD's from Amazon.com for about $35.

Firefly was amazing. But the suits expected it to have the same ratings that Buffy and Angel had at thier height, right off the bat. It was damn good television in this day and age of reality tv crap.
-
It wasnt exactly advertised that well either...

A Tar Heel now, Leftfoot?

Plus it was played on a bad night and often switched around.
But it was quite easily, the best show ever made, ever. No contest, argument, nothing. BEST SHOW!
-
...Ive never heard of this "Firefly" show you speak of.
Maybe thats why they stopped airing it.
-
The talk is that Whedon will write and direct the next X-Men movie too now that Bryan Singer jumped ship for Superman.

It didn't help that they aired the episodes out of order. They played the pilot episode near the end, the one that introduced the characters. Stuff like that made it harder for people to get into, I'm guessing.
-
I'm hoping that the movie will be such a success that a network will pick up the show again.

Saur
Do yourself a favor and rent the DVDs if you can find them
Or hows this for a deal. You buy the DVD, if you do not like them, I will buy them from you, shipping and all.
I have friends who I can give it to.
I love the show, the network guys who cancelled it should be shot.
-
There's a British sci-fi mag called SFX that's been running their own ads since firefly aired in GB telling everybody in no uncertain terms that every reader should tell their mates to tell their mates to tell their mates, etc.
I missed Firefly when it was aired cos I was in Holland, mate of mine bought the DVDs and forced me to watch the pilot.......and then we watched the whole series in one night. And again a couple days later.
Fav quote "Aw I'm going to the special hell!"
And it's such a shame the Preacher didn't get to have his story explained before the bastards cancelled it.......

The American frontier on like 89 planets or something... great stuff.
I liked the captn cleaning his guns on the kitchen table. I do exactly the same thing. best place to do it.

Never even heard of it.:(

you wouldn't like it curval... the characters are self reliant and use firearms to defend themselves and others and...... The government are the bad guys.

Now now lazs...I think your wrong. It is a pure fantasy show afterall.
-
well.... so was 9/11 and people said it was well done but I don't want to see it. I don't go to chick fliks either or depressing movies. sooo... I just assumed this wouldn't be your cup of tea... glorifying self reliance and the firearm and all.

I haven't seen 9/11 and I will not watch chick flicks either. But I like a good fantasy movie.
Sounds like this particular one is pretty good. Swoop likes it, I'm sure I would too.

Yeah, self-reliant with an evil government that "interferes with and ignores people equally", supporting and promoting a laissez-faire capitalistic system that ruthlessly exploits the many for the benefit of the few.
Anyway, it's a cool show, and well worth owning the DVDs. Fox really had half-assed support from the beginning. The friday-night slot wasn't good; and the suits seem to have thought they'd be getting something a little more star trek.
The movie "serenity" is scheduled for US release next March.

My sister had an interesting theory about the preacher, with his obvious military backround and all. That in season three that crew was going to find out that he was the General in command of Alliance forces that the Battle of Serentity!! Dun-dun-da!!!
...which would have been totally cool.

Mal : You know, they tell ya to never hit a man with a closed fist but it is, on occasion, hilarious.

Saur!
I was not joking, go out and buy it and if you do not like it I will take it off your hands! :D
