It's no Scout, but International is back in the SUV biz.

The new CXT, short for commercial extreme truck and built from the same platform as the heavy truck maker's typical tow truck or cement mixer, will be sold starting this week by Navistar's International Truck & Engine subsidiary.
At 258 inches, or 21-1/2 feet long, the CXT's about 4-1/2 feet longer than the new Hummer H2 pickup, and about 2 inches longer than the F-350 Crew Cab. But it really towers over what's on the road now is in height, at 108 inches, or 11 feet, a foot above a basketball rim and more than two feet taller than the Hummer or the F-350.The vehicle weighs about seven tons empty and can carry another six tons in its truck bed.
People have been making conversions for years, but a factory model is pretty cool.

I wonder why CNN would compare this to an F350 when they really ought to be comparing it to an F650.

Yeah, I wondered the same thing. I think the difference is Ford does'nt make any factory 650 pickups. They are all aftermarket conversions.
I saw a neat conversion Kenworth at the drag strip a couple weeks ago. It was on a 1 ton Chevy duramax frame. The guy did a good job scaling the hood down to size so the 16 inch wheels looked porportional.

I hear that the Kerry family has ordered 2 allready... :D

Ah.... I get it... the F650 is a commercial vehicle that's been converted to a pickup.

But when he was corned with evidence thatr he did own some big SUVs his BS answer was that his family owned them - his personal vehicles... Thats kerry for ya... :)

I really think that Kerry is just as dumb and awkward a speaker as Bush, just in a different way...

It's an attention thing. Kinda like that Michael Jackson guy on Jimmy Kimmel.

Most places in the country could get rid of those mammoth SUV's any time they want just by enforcing the road laws. Such heavy vehicles are almost always illegal to casually drive on most city streets.
This doesn't just include the freaks like the Hummer or the one on this page, but some of the largest "normal" SUV's too.

want to get back on topic? That is the butt ugliest "truck" I have ever seen..Their designers know nothing about Form and Function working together. My eyes hurt from looking at that.
-
Oil pushing $50 a barrel and they want to sell mini trucks. LOL
Certinly the ugliest SUV/Truck I've seen in a while.

These people usually make cement mixers and dump trucks, I wouldnt thgink thast they got much of a body design department..
-
International does a great job on interiors. Their problem has always been the cabs shaking apart. Trust me no matter what the do that will never ride like a dually. I give it a 9 on the smurfy scale. The bed looks all out of porportion.

They should bring back the IH Scout, complete with rubber floor plugs to drain the water out after you hose the mud off the vinyl seats.

Not to mention one of the worst possible locations for a fuel tank imaginable in an off-road vehicle. Oh, it this intended for city driving? Then why is it jacked up so high.
I agree, that thing is a design flaw in that it exists. I say that as a fan of IH, I used to own a 1963 Scout-800, and often wish I still did.

Unfortunately Federal law mandates where they place the fuel tank. Outside the frame rail.

No matter the HP, 2wd trucks are for girly men!!!!!!
-
I have no problem with girlymen enjoying their hummers, but let's not forget us straight guys. GO HUMMERS!

H1 or H2?

Two hummers are always better then one hummer, followed by a short nap or perhaps a sandwich and some TV.
