Title: Monster
Post by: beet1e on September 14, 2004, 05:19:37 AM
... that was the name of a movie I saw recently. It's a dramatisation of the true story of Aileen Wuornos (http://www.carpenoctem.tv/killers/wournos.html), probably America's best known female serial killer. Compelling performance by the South African actress Charlize Theron, who played the lead. And a hell of a make up job they did on her. In the movie she looks grungey and revolting, her teeth yellowed by all the cigs she smoked. But check her out (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000234/) as she looks in real life.

I had to grit my teeth at the street dialogue though, not that I'm particularly offended by profanity. But most sentences contained F, S/BS, MF, and most annoying of all, almost every phrase of every sentence was suffixed with "..., man".

Two questions: 1)Why do street people learn to speak like that? 2)Why do they think it's cute?

they don't think it is cute.   They hope that it will make them appear less like a potential victim to their peers.

If you are in jail... it is not a good idea to look scared and say "please don't hurt me" over and over.

same for the street.

conversly... it is good practice to not only be fould mouthed but to also flaunt any vocabulary that you have... it is not a bad idea to appear to be tough and smart.   Insane can be helpful in such company also.

Charlize Theron did awesome work on "Monster", but I was really impressed with Christina Ricci's performance as well.

Then again, pretty much everything about Ms. Ricci impresses me. :)

LOL! Lazs should be in the firing range business, as he would be very good at it.

Also, I don't remember Lazs effing and blinding, or suffixing every sentence with "..., man", so any jailbird days must be well behind him :cool:

I am not in the firing range bussiness.

There is no need for me to "impress" anyone with what a street wise bad guy I am these days... What would be the point?

And no... I did not get caught except for minor things that put me in jail for very short periods like overnite.

even then... certain ettiquet should be observed.

Also... with days of partying with the people I hung out with you get to know their life story... sota like being a government worker or office worker getting to know his coworkers... cept these ones were career criminals and sociopaths and such and loaded on every concievable drug.
