Title: New ENY chart combined
Post by: ALF on September 14, 2004, 06:54:11 PM
For ease of seeing the change, here is an overlay of the two ENY charts.
(http://www.combathanger.com/eny.jpg)

.

The most obvious change is a shift to the right of  about 20 players or another view is from 36% - 30% - 30% being the jumping off point to 40% - 30% - 30%

On the converse, we have a slightly faster  rate of increase, all the way until ~49% the ENY is less, but after 49% its actually higher.

One thing this chart does not address is the actual MA numbers we typically see of 100 vs 130 vs 150.  Based solely on the chart and extrapolating (ASSuME that there is no logarythmic formula at work) we get:

100= zero of course

130= still ZERO!

150 = HOLY COW!  Still zero!!!

From what I can tell the ENY will be less pervassive, and only kick in when things get more out of whack that normal fluxuations.  TIme will tell how this effects gameplay

100/130/150 would have the La-7, P-51D and maybe the N1K2-J as well as perk planes with similar ENYs disabled in the 150 country.

I dont beleive so if its a percentage thing (which it appears to be).  Keep in mind the chart is with the other two sides at 100 each...with the middle country having 130, it lowers the overal percentage of the high country.  The MA just had a similar situation...and it held true.

It is a percentage over the lowest country, not a percentage of the total.

It actually appears to work on TOTAL ARENA NUMBERS and your countries percentage.

As you can see, the only thing that changes is the MIDDLE countries number, the High and Low are the same, but the ENY changes.

Yup, Karnak is correct by how HT described it originally. The numbers for the middle country as they relate to the largest are immaterial for the purpose of the ENY system. The middle country would be penalized only in relationship to the smallest country just as the largest country is. So, in your example, the largest country would have ENY modifier approaching 10. The middle country would not be penalized yet.

Ummm...so please explain if Im not correct, why a change in the MIDDLE countries number,  effects the highest countried ENY as shown 2 posts above?

I can't explain it, I am only going by what HT said back in the original thread. I can only assume it's a rounding thing, the difference is only 1/10th of 1%. If the total arena population was taken into account his graphs really don't represent the ENY effect as they only show the relationship between the largest country and the smallest country at 100 people. There is no mention or consideration given in those charts to the percentage of the total arena population. If HiTech reads this perhaps he can clarify the issue for us.

Maybe inflight % is effecting it?

I dont think inflight is taken into account, but in any case, its a MUCH improved level of smack down now.  The small tweak has made huge change in how ENY effects the game.  Now its not kicking in for the irrelivently small diferences it was before.  Its not perfect...but its much more tollerable now

I agree there, it effects alot less people alot less often in this new incarnation. I think the initial scaling was a wee bit too heavy handed.

Zazen,

Starting to sound like emotional tolerance is being reached for this ENY thingy. These threads themselves will have an influence on the fence sitters who follow the community concensus. The less shouting, whailing, and rending of hair, the more unconsious emotional acceptance for the thingy.

Kinda like the self fulfilling media proclomations when the economy takes a turn. Did it really get as bad as reported or did the constant bad news help us to make it that bad?

The only constant in life is change. Most of the time we fight change and thus are the source of our own pain. What would have happened if we had willingly embraced the ENY thingy to start with knowing Hitech would help us adjust it along the way?:)

Hold your sword high.
Step forward.
Carry the hot coal in your mouth.
Lightning flashes, I am myself.
