I am a new member, and been trying to find and aeroplane that I like, tried all of the usual types and got killed nicely.
I tried the F6 last night for the first time without ordnance, it is an amazing piece of hardware. I wanted to try it after reading a write up at Sodas website located at
http://www.telusplanet.net/~dsoder/models.htm
on the F6 and other planes. If you havnt been to this website, makes sure you have a look, especially if you are new to the game, or just have an interest in the AC for AH2.
Thanks Soda, nice work.
ps. I enjoyed turning inside a P51D on the top of a loop and the bottom, all the time getting closer to it. Shame the .50s have fairly weak against bombers.

You've picked a pretty good plane. And you'll eventually find that 6x50s are pretty good against bombers.

rod,
Here is a link to Mathman's F6F Write-Up (http://www.netaces.org/ahplanes/usa/mathmanf6f/mathman.html). I don't know if he has updated recently, but this is a version I had on my site (and will eventually get back up on it).

Glad you like the site Rod.
The F6F is a very under-rated opponent, guys like Mathman are gods in it and for good reason, they know how to suprise you with the F6F's abilities all around. You are correct, the P51D at low speeds has to really be careful or you can turn inside him... that shocks a lot of people. As for the firepower, if you get the convergence on the guns set up properly then you'll do well with them. It's just a matter of getting the correct concentration of fire and hitting people in the right places (on bombers, wingtips are great, not the fuselage).

The way of attacking bombers counts too, you dont want to hang on their 'dead six' (very appropriate) for ages.
Take care of being above them (around 3k) and in front. Remember, do not attack them immediately, first take care of alt, position and speed.
Try and 'fly along' with them a bit at a save distance untill you're ready for your attack.
Dive down, try and be on their side or the front (hitting them from behind never is a good thing)
Make very quick passes, dont spend more than a few seconds firing. If you didn't hit it in one pass, make another, dont take long aim at them.
After this, climb back up to the save distance/alt and regain speed for another run.
You will find out that even .303's can make a difference using this method! (not really, I wouldn't consider attacking a B-17 with .303's but oh well...)

Yeah frank had good points. A good bomber pilot is usually a great gunner and will make u pay for every second u spend within 800yards. What i like to do is come from the side and nock off the verticle stabilizers. its very funny to watch them slowely spiral to their deaths.:aok

NEVER attack dead 6, it's suicide, most of the bombers have relative "blind" spots you can come in from (often from the belly area). If you think you are up against a "new" bomber pilot, the other thing to do is make him switch gun positions a lot and get him out of synch with you. Make a pass from high 3 or 9 position, barrel roll around him (not really making an attack on the initial pass) and then settle in and take a shot. It can get the gunner so confused trying to follow you that they still haven't re-acquired when they start hearing your pings hitting them. It takes some practice, and feel for how long you have, but it can work really well.

If you aim for the cockpit of a bomber, its almost an instant kill every time. Most of the time it will kill the pilot and cause this instant death, no matter what plane you're flying.
