Smart bellybutton but hey it's topical
The Brits captured one in Shaibah and are shipping it back to Blighty as a war prize

Accursed infidel computer: device of the devil!
It seems to be working now. I think?????????
They found two other single seaters too. Apparently the USAF destroyed another. (Warning cheap shot coming) The thought it was British................
I see the paintwork on the model is nearly as bad as the real one. (cheap shot no 2 :p if you ever saw one of my models.)
I read elsewhere that someone came across the fuselages of Hawker Hinds in Afghanistan. Some good comes out of war then.

Did they find any other British relics, say from the 1920s? ;)
-
Grun, are you saying they found some planes in Iraq and Pakistan? Like the one pictured at the top?

Are that the WMD you guys were so scared about?
Look ma! i can post! :lol

I was making a joke with my post.
But yes it seems that the British have found some old Iraqi Sea Furies during the war.
Paste this URL into your browser and you will see the picture of one:

No I'm saying that but I can't make the picksur work, You'd never know I work for IBM or maybe you would.
Most of the current Fury flying fleet were bought from Iraq in the Seventies and restored. These three seem to be the last of them.
The Hinds in Afghanistan were ex Afghanistan air force. One Afghan hind flies with the Shuttleworth collection in England.

The US destroyed numerous airfields in Iraq and Afganistan.
On a lot of these airfields, there were aircraft of WW2 origins, most pushed to the side, but they were there, none the less. Anyways, I have seen pictures of destroyed Sea Furys, Typhoons, Tempests, Meteors, and a few Thunderbolts.
We are trying to get permission to goto Afganistan now to scavenge what is left since their government does not want the stuff.
Hopefully we can swing it.

when would they have used a sea fury?

More than likely it was for training, who knows... all I know is they are there, and I wanna get our hands on 'em!

They bought them new off the British in the late forties. Not just trainers either. I think they were used in action against the Israelis flying from Syria at one stage.
Most of the flying and non flying Sea Furies around these days are ex Iraqi Air Force.
