Does anyone know if the 64 bit version will be availabe as an upgrade from win2k or winxp pro?

Has MS said anything about that?

As I understand it there will be No Upgrade path, but it will require a full install.

So far no upgrade, but since it is still pre-release it is not outside the realm of possibility, but I doubt it will be available. IMHO you should always do a clean install anyhow rather than 'upgrade', in fact you'd be suprised how much faster your computer will seem after a fresh/clean install of Win-XYZ, particularly if it has been two years or so. I was in the habit of formatting and re-installing every year, but I tend to abuse my system :D

Anyhow, you can download XP-64 for free right now. I cannot get AH2 to work since my sound card is too old to have 64bit driver support with DirectX, it is a SBLive.

Last time when i made a fresh windows reinstall, I did it aside the old one...  after lots of regular tweaking it worked worse than the old install :D

ok, i may have been vague.

If you buy a copy of winxp pro UPGRADE then you can just install that, and sometime during the install it asks you to insert the previous version of win that you are upgrading from (win98 or win2k) You dont have to first install win2k then the upgrade. This is alot cheaper then buying the retail/full verson or whatever its called.

so..

will there be an upgrade version available for win2k/xp ----> xp64bit ?

Okay, you mean a license upgrade then. I don't know if that has been decided by Bill and Co. yet, I'd say ask them but they'll say the same thing. The discount for those upgrades seldom involve different media and code, it is usualy just for the licensing/activation.

A full version of xppro costs about twice that of an upgrade from win2k so im hoping they will offer it. Not that those $$$ bothers me, but i _hate_ giving that company more than i have to :mad:




-edit- No, im not just talking about converting the license. When you buy an upgrade version of XP its a complete CD. The only diff is that you need to insert an old windows copy for it to work at one point during the install process.
