The Daily Show did a story on this the other day, and I about died laughing.
A fresh water turtle in the south is known as a Cooter.

Hell I was born and raised in the South and I've heard that name/term "cooter" all my life and I never associated it with....that other thing. Why, some good ol' boys are even nicknamed Cooter, and wear it with pride.:aok
Come to think of it though, I wonder how they got that nickname:lol

Never heard it called a "cooter" before, but anyone is welcome to hold one on my place. ****ing turtles are eating all my fish.
