Curious.
What the fastest CPU I can safely upgrade to on my Mother board
Motherboard is an ASUS A7V333
complete current system specs listed below

You have a 333 DDR board so it should take quite a good upgrade with any XP processor or maybe even a Barton. Check the mobo website. They usually have a CPU compatability table.
Make really sure before you buy.

The 333 bartons go all the way to 3000+....but be careful, theres a 400mHz bus version of the 3000+ too...so get the right one! Before you buy be sure you mobo supports the chip...I havnt looked into you Mobo.

stay away from the applebred durons they are very picky on there mainboard combo ,and arnt really a upgrade.
the last good duron was the 1.3 morgan and they dont make it anymore.
the +2500 barton has always been the best bang for the buck though .. it clocks at 2.2 ghz and ussually can be got for 75-80 $ U.S.

And whats the difference between the 2500, and the 3000
And woudl it make sence to up grade to either of these chips over what I have now?

see the 2500+ will run at 2.2 ghz/ 333fbs
the 3200+ runs at 2.2 ghz at 400 fbs
the price difference between the 2 cpu's is $100+
if i was gonna upgrade over 2.2 ghz i would go with the new 64bit amd (prefurably the 939 pin ) and i'm currently waiting anouther year or so to see what happens with the 64bit tecnology /prices/operation system/ ect .

Just curious & more than happy to help out. Why the CPU upgrade?
If I were you, staying with the FX5200 I wouldn't spend anymore than the cost of a Barton XP2500. It's already going to outrun your video. {unless your going to upgrade video in the near future}

Curious myself as to how far I can go with this board.
And Im always thinking bout upgrading something.
And if your going to upgrade ya gotta start somewhere.
and from what I've seen the CPU is actually amungh the cheapest of the upgrades.

Any reviews I've read on that particular CPU have nothing less then raved about it.
Im planning on in the future of trying my hand at building a whole new system. So My son and I can fly at the same time.
At which time I suspect I will be asking tons more questions.
In the meantime I'll continue cutting my teeth so's to speak on upgrades like this.
OH BTW anyone know of a decent and reasonably priced QUIET CPU fan I can use on this current system.
this current one can easily be heard in the next room lol

1st, yes it would put you in the "higher end" CPU range of todays systems. However getting it to run at that speed
stable and cool is another issue. Seeing that your "just getting your feet wet" in the area of building systems I wouldn't venture into O/C'ng and tweaking the BIOS until you know what your doing. Hate to see ya fry a new chip or board, been there/done that.
2nd, the object of getting speed, performance and reliability out of a system is to "match" the componets as closely as possable. You don't want to run an XP3000+ cpu at 400FSB with DDR 3200 memory coupled with a poor laid out MB and a mediocre vid card. That's a waste of good funds & time.
3rd, spend the extra $$$ on the important items where it will matter, MB, CPU, Memory, Vid card and P.S. The rest is lipstick & rouge. You'd be amazed at how many people get a high end CPU, a bizillion gigs of ram, then strap it to a tier2 mainboard with a low end video card.
Anyways, hopefully this will help and if you need any more assistance I would be more than happy to help. Looks like Roscoroo can be of some good help also!
