seems to me many of us are too keen to give our opinions on each other (myself included) How about instead of dividing ourselves up, we get to know each other better.
this thread is designed to be a reference page for all users and i hope you will all write a small bio about yourself for the community to see how you view yourself, instead of just how you view others.
I shall start....
Name: Hamish Cameron
Callsign: Batfink
occupation: self employed fencing contractor.
DOB: 14/01/1983
Nationality: English (with Scottish, Welsh, Irish and Canadian roots)
Marrital status: long term relationship with no plans of marriage.
Interests: Music production, friends, aviation, snowboarding, summer sports and any creative interaction with others.
Family: one big screwed up divorced mess :)
one brother one sister, both younger.
Both parents still alive, although havnt seen mother in years.
Education and CPU speed: apparently i have a stupidly high IQ, but lost out therefore in selfdisipline, restraint, diligence and concentration. 'Educated' at a grammar school (Royal Grammar School high wycombe) untill the age of 16 when i left with 10 GCSE's, went to art college for 9 months and then left to go into the wonderfull world of earning. yuck!
Bad habbits: smoking, drinking, laziness(comes with being self employed) i dislike the way i find myself unable to back away from a confrontation, no matter the odds. it gets me in a mess every now and then. I am never afraid to speak my mind and would, as a rule, rather upset someone with the truth than please them with a lie.
Good habbits: I love nature of all kinds in respect of being in tune with mother earth, sort of like a new age hippy, just i take a shower more often than once a month.
I believe i am fair, honest and courteous to anyone(or anything) i meet untill they give me a reason to act differently.
Worst injury: broken neck; pushing a mate up onto his balcony whilst drunk. he fell and sat directly on my head, didnt fall, just stayed there untill i toppled over. 3 compressed verts and one cracked, all between shoulder blades to my skull.
stupidest injury: bob sleding down the local hill whilst standing up and forgeting how to do a comando roll when the ground challenges you to a jousting duel. hit deck at about 25 mph and broke arms and injured back (again)
oh, and punching a kid at school who put yohgurt in my jacket only resulting in me breaking my 5th metacarple(little finger bone in hand), that one had to be pinned back together.
Amibitions: to sell music and art, and make a living from doing nothing... mmuuaahahaha!
to make it into space before i die.
to own a replica spitfire of any MK before i die.
to love honour and obey my friends and loved ones
to have a thresome with Japanese twins before i die...(present relationship pending)
Regrets: not being able to hold my family together when i was a kid. i always felt responsible despite knowing i had no control
Shaving my pubic region as a bet (itched for weeks after :( )
Favorite AH ride: undoubtably, Spitfire MKV.
Personal Quotes: "An argument can never be forgotten or over whilst either side still requires to be more in the right than the other."
well that about sums me up.
please dont flame this thread, be serious and think about who YOU are for a few minutes instead of who others are.
maybe this thread could become a sticky.
it was certainly interesting to me to think who i was, as opposed to acting as a faceless intardnet gimp gamer.

It was laying next to me and woke up and decided to bark at me. It barked once and then bite me. Its lower left eye tooth got me about a 1/4 inch above my right eye, while the 2 of its top left jaw ripped me open at the hairline and alittle farther back in the hair. Went to hospitol and got about 30 stiches. After waiting in hospitol for about 30 minutes for the plastic surgeon to sew me up( he was at golf course) He said I was quite lucky I didnt lose my eye. My dad kept the dog after this event. Vet said it was caused by seisures the dog was having as it was getting older. The dog died about 2 years ago and my step mom expected me to be sorry for it. Thats another story tho.

Thanks for the concern. My apartment complex was washed away by francis (I lived right on the water...great freakin apartment) and I got my things out when it made a beeline for west palm. Made it back to Ohio in one 17 hour driving trip...towing a one bedroom apartment's worth of 'things.'

my better half just graduated from art school, and hopes to expand into photography for vocation. any tips or hints how she could help her work get recognised. she wants to do a course to learn more although she knows the basics from college(i should know, i was there for one year of it ), i think she should just take lots of photos, every day. lots of photos. obsession is the only way i have learnt to do anything well, but then i am a bit strange. what ya think would be more productive for her after 18 years of constant education?

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

any tips or hints how she could help her work get recognised?
Contests. Enter contests. Contests are a great way to have your work evaluated by professionals and get your work some minimal level of exposure.
She should build a portfolio of her best work. Not just what she thinks is her best work, but what others feel is excellent as well.
Self-publishing is another route.
I know one fellow who took some of his better photos, printed them and framed the pictures using inexpensive pre-cut matting and frames. He then sold about them on consignment through several galleries. For less than $2,000 invested, he cleared over $17,000 in sales. Not too bad for a hobby.
Don't overlook newspapers and magazines as potential buyers. There are greeting card makers who buy photos (terms usually are a one-time payment for a license lasting up to 5 years, photographer retains ownership).
Here are some links to contests that she can enter online that can result in some exposure (and a free gallery website) and the chance of actually being published (although there is no financial compensation if you are selected for publication, just the exposure)
Betterphoto.com (http://www.betterphoto.com/contest.asp)
Picture.com contest (http://www.picture.com/contest/enter.asp)
This one requires an entry fee, but offers good exposure to the winners. You can download the rules and entry form in .pdf format.
National Photo Contest (http://www.nationalphotoawards.com/)
I'm sure that there are many photo contests sponsored by various companies and newspapers in Britain. Have her research these and enter every contest she can find. Especially if her work is really good and highly original.
What I have discovered is that 75% of the photos submitted to contests are poor to average. 20% are very nice. That remaining 5% constitutes the tough competition, the really good work of a highly talented, but small group of photographers. If she can crack this group, she is well on her way to a solid career as a photographer.
I wish her good fortune.
My regards,
Widewing

My pleasure.
By the way, the attached photo was selected for publication in a hard cover volume just released. It started out as a simple contest entry... What's even more shocking to some is that it was taken with the $200 Kodak CX6330 digital that I keep in my car for just such unexpected opportunities (Don't underestimate Kodak digital cameras, the clarity and color is as good as my 6 megapixel Cannon and 4 megapixel Panasonic cameras that cost 5 and 3 times as much, respectively).
Here's another shot with that same inexpensive Kodak. This one made the semi-finals in the only contest it was entered in.
Finally, this next image began as a digital photo. It was modified to its current form by using Photoshop's dry brush filter. Printed on heavy stock and framed, it's been added to the wall of my den.
With the ever-increasing quality of digital cameras, great software and extremely high quality (and low cost) printers, there is almost nothing beyond the reach of anyone with even the slightest talent for photography. People such as your "better half" will find a whole new world of creative possibilities that previous generations never even dreamed of.
My regards,

Marrital status: 8 years now with the same girlfreind in our own house. :)
Intrest: How many in 30 years? I've had rides in piston planes and jets since I was 5 at Dunstable Downs England in a Tiger Moth. Even had rides in a Taylorcraft Austor at Peshawar Pakistan. My father earned his Silver C from the glider club at Dunstable Downs. Betcha Flossy has been to the cliffs and seen the chalk figures.:) My father was a private pilot. He was a non-com Russian linguist during the cold war. He became a private pilot, instructor, Commercial pilot, commercial instructor, multi engin prop, multi jet and so forth. He wanted me to be a pilot so beg barrowed or whateverd me rides and walk arounds in almost everything. We didnt get along in the cocpit, so he could never train me to my solo.
I used to fish alot, rock climbing from bouldering to lead on walls. Studied and taught Tenshin ryu Kenjutsu. Supported myself during this as a sayashi and tsukamakishi. Ever wondered who made the handels and scabbards for katana? Worked as an iron worker, carpenter, locksmith, and bodygaurd. Used to be an amature level in-line skate marathoner. 5 wheel skates with low cut leather boots. 27 mile races being the shortest. 100 mile being mid and I did the San Francisco to L.A. marathon in 96. Took 3 days. I like to renovate ww2 battle rifles, reload and shoot them. I also like reloading shooting my match grade M1A1 and Gerand. My M1A1 is built to Military tactical specs with milspec scope and mount. All modifications of a standard Springfeild National Match rifle. I have to give credit though to my marine freind who walked me through the modifications from what he did while active duty. Oh yes and gardening and feeding my wild birds so I can watch them in the morning. They are superior entertainment to television.
Family: Parents both retired from NSA and live in Maryland. Sister with 3 kids and 3 grand kids.
Education: UMES, UofM, Heald Technical.
Bad habbits: All the standard because I'm human.
Good habbits: I don't lie to myself about my bad habits.
Worst injury: Rabes, had to go through the 21 shots in the gut Pasture series. Face ripped apart by a 100lb dog when I was 8. Broken wrist from fall into a 6ft deep hole. Shot with an arrow in the leg. Broken ribs twice. Broken shoulder joint from a high speed fall onto pavement. Cut in the head by a katana and a meat cleaver, may years apart for both. Smacked with a frieing pan and a baseball bat. Several concussions and temporary loss of personal knowlege.
Stupidest injury: Every last one of em.
Ambitions: Retire to a farm in Maine.
Regrets: Too late for such.
Favorite:
Personal quotes: One of my racing team members who was bleeding out her lung at mile 71 when I crashed into a curb, we had just climbed the 8 miles of switchbacks up the front of Kings Mt. and slalomed the 12 miles down the back heading to Santa Cruz on Hwy101. : So! You hurt, you just like kinky sex with asphalt, or you gonna get your busted butt up and we finish this race?<---what do you say to a 5'1" 105lb woman when you are 6ft 200lb and she has a lung bleed???? I got my busted butt up and finished the last 30 miles with her.

paulobrien6969,
We lived in Luton in an old section of row houses, 1959-61. My father was stationed at Chicksands as a USAF russian linguist. I went to a grade school in Luton where I had to wear a uniform. Nickers, blazer, beenie cap, knee socks, loafers. Teachers used rulers liberaly upon our erstwhile littel kesters. I remember on the road to the Dunstable Downs a WW2 memorial with a spit and a hurrican. We stopped in once and the color sargent let me sit in the spit.
If you go to this web site and look near the bottom you will see a picture of my father at Dunstable in the Slingsby Tutor he soloed to get his Silver C.
