How did you get it when it's not out til tuesday? I call BS.
Besides whats wrong with fiddling with it..he's quoted as saying "films are never finished, just abandoned"
to be honest as much as I Love star wars (first movie I saw at age 3 in early 1978), some of it was a little chessy and weak..although cutting edge for the time.
I liked the additions to the last edition. I'm sure I'll like the new ones too.

Remarkably enough shops get stock in before the release date..it's out officially on wednesday, and the store I got it from was unpacking the boxsets when I walked in....

Break out the brooms.....shenanigans have been delcared.
I was going to purchase the box set...but with my 21st b-day coming up, I made it well known that if anyone wants to be my friend/familymember/gf they must buy this for me.

"anyone else seen the changes?"
Yeah. Watched the DVD's last week. I'm not a Star Wars nut (haven't even seen the last two at all) but most of the changes are pretty obvious. I do like that the original films were really cleaned up, sharpened and graphically enhanced but some of the other changes would probably make a SW grognard cringe. Outright slice thier throats open with a light sabre (or really, really big mult D cell flashlight) type of cringe.

Yeah lucas making guido shoot first was a wonderfull change, oh yeah...
Lucas sucks the balls of a rabid squirel.

Hmmm... ever notice that the directors with large bodies of work don't return every ten years to tweak their movies?
Lucas is a hack. He got lucky and scored on the first Star Wars movie and as been nursing that teet for thirty years.

He may be a hack but at least he is a smart hack.
One thing lucas made sure of when making these films were that they (the rights mostly) belonged soley to lucas alone (lucas films for the last one).
Fox may have helped produce the first two but they did not get any of the rights to the films at all. To be honest I don't disagree w/ him doing anything to the films. Most painters don't go back and "touch up" their art but If they owned the art that would be fine with me.

Lucas isnt much of direcor or moviemaker beyond the oroginal star wars but he is far from a hack. Both his direct and indirect impact and contribution to movies are as big as anyone in history if you examine his body of work in special effects, sound, animation, computers, and other new technologies.
As for the changes, I think all of them improve the movies except the Greedo shooting first scene in ANH and this ghost scene now in ROTJ..
As for Star Wars on DVD I'm very happy, now I can finally retire the old Laserdisc player.

i cant wait to see the new DVD's!!
i'm a SW fan since i saw the first movie back 1977.
well i'ts Lucas baby, and he can mod it the way he wants
and feels it should be. We know he couldnt create special FX
1977 like it can be created today.
Cant wait for my super-long-SW-weekend !!! and all in 5.1 !!! :D

The two new things that bug me are the new Hayden Christensen ghost, and the "new" Emperor scene in the middle of ESB.
I mean, why not just chuck in that 10 year olds ghost as well!
As for the changed (again) Greedo/Solo scene - why bother, just go back to the '77 version when it's obvious Lucas accepts he's made a mistake...
Apart from all that...the Video and Audio are awesome, the picture never look so good, and the 5.1 really gives the surrond sound system a good workout

A hack that is probrably richer than you will ever be.:D
Frankly most of the stuff that has come out of Hollywood in the past 30 years is Written, directed, and produced by hacks.

Pfft, I always knew the Rebels were scum. This blogger is doing the good work of the Emperor.
whoopee terrorists...

Not a terrorist...the goverment more or less gave into Palpatine..therefor to go back later and start a civil war that only brought chaos (read the post "jedi" books) was illegal..I like the Empire..they had cooler ships/weapons...but regardless the Empire was the legal government at the time.
oops i missed your point...you are right the rebels were terrorists..I'd like to see a movie or books written from the other point of view:aok

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark - now there's a film. Didn't Lucas collaborate with Spielburg on that one?

Lucas...must...die.

WTF is that!?
omg. He ruined it. Sebastian Shaw deserves that scene.
-
The kind look on Shaw's face made that scene and helped the story move past the image of Darth Vader. With the change now we are just reminded of a bratty teenager who we will see become Darth Vader in Episode III..

True, ESB is easily the best film, Jedi comes about third, and only really because of the showdown between Vader/Palpatine/Luke

Which goes to show...Lucas is a good producer, and a Hack as a director
Imagine Jedi if Spielberg directed it like Lucas wanted him too
