When we read that pilot X had 50 kills during the war, planes strafed on the ground didnt count. Since ACES HIGH is a WW2 fighter sim why do ground kills count? Basically it be nice if strafed planes didnt count for the k/d ratio, perk points, and strike rate on fighter missions. RL pilots did not earn normal credit for strafing, maybe AH shouldnt either? Maybe make it only count after the planes wheels are off the ground and they are airborne. Kills like that counted in RL, ive read some funny stories of pilots checking the guncam film to confirm exactly that the wheels were up.
any thoughts?

If nothing else, it would nice to have seperated kill figures in stats. But I bet it would take alot of unecessary programing.
and as far as WWII goes the usual number is indeed for aerial kills, but then again any manned plane are usually counted as well. They did get credit/kill stamps for strafed aircraft though.
Real pilots didn't have to deal with spawn points, but then again, they didn't have teleportation, AWACS and 100% accurate ground controllers/planes etc. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

define "counted".
I know one Silver Star Jug driver who was extremely highly rated and decorated, and never had a single air to air encounter. Not one.
there's more than one way to be an airforce giant. Niether Guy Gibson nor Dowding were known for racking up the kills.

Actually the US Eight Air Force DID count ground kills.
All these quotes come from 'Valor' published by the Air Force Association.
The third-ranking ace of the 56th Fighter Group, Col. Schilling achieved 22.5 air victories, plus 10.5 destroyed on the ground
...John C. Meyer, fourth-ranking US ace in Europe, with 24 confirmed air-to-air victories, including one German jet. Of the top 15 Eighth Air Force aces, Meyer also was the leader in aircraft destroyed on the ground, the most hazardous of fighter operations.
When Gabreski 's total reached 30 (28 air) victories and 193 missions, he earned a leave back to the States.

Cause this is an KeWlD00d game? and not an sim?

The only thing I disagree with is the definition that Aces High is a "WWII fighter sim". It may have started out that way, but it's more than that now, ever since they introduced ground vehicles and now ships.
As for scoring, I suck so I don't care one way or the other.

its not a sim.. its a game
Rowans BoB might be closer to definition of a simulation, with those engine management things..
I wish that AH would get some sort of engine management feature as well, it shouldnt need be complex..

I think planes strafed on the ground "counted" to the guy who was going to fly that plane on a mission that day (or if he happened to be in the plane at the time :-).

Perhaps HTC could improve the kill message to read something like:
Victory 1 (A2A) by PILOT of SQUADRON
You'd also have air to ground (A2G), air to sea (A2S), then G2G, S2A etc. Might put some of those 10+ streaks into perspective.

Everybodys so damned worried about what the other guy is doing... LOL.. buncha damn gossipy women.
YOU know what yah did.. why is it so damnned important that it's PUBLISHED?
How in hell do yah get the canopys closed over yer collective fat heads?? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Check in, fly yer mission; get out alive; land, repeat.. do it well; and you'll know it.. same if yah do it poorly. Why must it be displayed in lights??

LOL...
GRUNZ.. it was counted whether it was in the air or on the ground as long as there was a pilot sitting in the cockpit.
Me262 kills where counted and most where vultches.
So if you wana park a plane on the runway with no pilot in it, thats fine and shouldnt be counted as a kill. But if theres a pilot in the plane, it is a kill....
Dog out.......
