Title: The Presidential Debates
Post by: Nash on September 20, 2004, 09:38:26 PM
OK okay... I gotta fess up... I don't really have any news or anything.

But I'm just watching the development of the current thread action and it's all dead anyways. Maybe this can be something interesting instead to fight about. Maybe not - worth a shot.

Supposedly the candidates agreed on the rulez. The first debate happens on the 30th.

What happens?

What will it mean?

How much weight  will the debates carry?

Any 'classic' debate moments in the cards?

What does either of them need to accomplish?

Will you consider a "nothing really happened" a win?

Are you going to watch?

What are you going to be looking for?

Unless Kerry is able to pull a rabbit out of the hat and completely smash Bush in the debates, nothing much will change. The election and the debates are Bush's to lose in my opinion.

Kerry needs to transform himself before the American people, Bush just needs to not screw up.

I am definatley going to watch.

I'll be looking for Kerry to take a stand on something.....something important.

You seem kind of obsessed with this election Nash and i dunnea know why.

Lobby groups always carry the day so what's the point in debating who is the "nit" and who is the "wit"?

But wassup with that nutbag Klein, he went home early from the first PM meeting, cuz waaaaa?

I read the entire document (available on Cnn.com), and it is typical entertainment boilerplate.  Trailers and perks for both and their entourage, but only Kerry demanded that all the M&M's be one color(purple).

The actual handtyped contract.  And it is hand typed on an old typewriter.

Ask Funked! :)

Torque is there any current canadian political activity we should be aware of down here?

Oh and as for the debates.

I guess everyone is worried about Bush saying something dumb, but what about Kerry...  He needs to be very careful in asny question about Iraq unless he wants another flip flop charge, and that might not be easy considering the comlicated web of technicalties and other nonsense he has spun as his Iraq platform..

Gak!

I just went through the contract... all 32 pages, and it looks good to me.

There were a few things I was looking for, but suprisingly they weren't there. Therefore, you have the official Nash seal of approval, and the debates can move forward as scheduled. :D

I actually gotta perform my own personal crow eating ritual...

The federal and provinical governments have come to an agreement over healthcare.  Not much will happen until Parliment sits, which should be shortly.

I did find (my own kind of) god, and I did stop doing that chit.

Bush lucked out. Even though folks knew he did it, they didn't actually seem to believe it. Had they believed it, he'd still be wreckin' baseball teams.

The commission proposal calls for presidential debates Sept. 30 at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla.; Oct. 8 at Washington University in St. Louis; and Oct. 13 at Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz. The vice presidential debate is scheduled for Oct. 5 at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Instead of debates, I'd rather see a showdown like in "The Challenge" starring Darren McGavin. The two candidates on a jungle island, automatic weapons, and may the best candidate win. Televise the whole thing as a reaity show to help pay down the debt. With luck, there will be one of those mutual "shoot at the same time" kinda things.

And no mouth guards!
