woot another way for arm-chair warriors to claim they have skill.
^_^
-
I honestly could care less about skill. I just want to see all this money Ive been playing for the past 3 years has actually developed into something. Yes that something is only flying a fake airplane on a computer. But it is something.

join anyway and post a note in the ladder forum saying that. you'll still find some takers.
then again, that's as good an excuse as any. :p

Raid this ladder is so simple to everyone, it is either put up or shut up....if anyone is afraid to join the ladder to see where they measure up, then they have no right to talk smack, or even whine about being shot down by an uber dweeb
Me for time being is shutting up, til I heal if I ever do
what's your excuse? :D ( this is all meant as an ill attempt at humor)
oh btw Morpheus,, I wonder how long it will take for the top 3 of the last ladder of AH1 to grab the top of this one, I say 2 months tops :)
-
i am all that.
at taking a nap :p .
but yes easy to use and fund!
-
I don't need an excuse nor do I have to prove anything.

Actually ace, I'm a USAF F-16 pilot.
Don't hurt me in AH2!
-
Screw nibble nibble.
He just swallowed the bait whole. Hook, line and sinker... 8)
-
ahhh i guess we found voss...
if you squint just right that hammer and sickle looks like a scorpion about to strike.
:rofl
i can see why you might be afraid to go up against virtual pilots - it'd shatter your ego. i mean, aren't some joysticks based on f-16 sticks? fly by wire, fly by cpu... same-same. or you telling me you're having difficulties with simulator training too? :aok
-
lmfao... Was thinking the same but wasnt going to... well... you know 8)
lol Shane. 8)
We gotta get into the DA and do some duelin man. I am not going to join the ladder but I would like to knock this summer rust off. :)

wow didn't know the USAF had an airbase in siberia, thanks for the heads up AWRaid, always enjoy finding out stuff like that.......

It's odd how this duelling ladder business is deemed to be a yardstick of "skill", when those who express that POV would, in the same breath, proclaim that "rank does not mean a thing" in the MA.
Being good in a duelling ladder means one thing - you're good at the particular game (and version of said game) that is the subject of said duelling ladder. You've learned all the nuances and gamey tricks there are to know, and you've fine tuned your stick settings to the nth degree to suit a particular plane in a particular game.
But does it mean anything else? Probably not. In my tenure in flightsimdom, I have fought against RL fighter pilots, and was surprised to discover that at the height of my game (1999/2000) I could beat one or two of them quite easily. The main reason is probably that these games are good simulations, but come nowhere close to an RL flying experience.
It's somewhat anomalous to look at that ladder and see that one guy who shone in AH1 could not hack AH2 and deleted his account. Another has recently retired from AH2, but in another thread expresses a desire to continue privately with AH1. Hmmm - why would that be then? ;) Psst - the flight model and gunnery model in AH1 were flawed - that's why they brought out AH2 - more power to their elbow...
Of course, some might try the duelling ladders as a way of having fun, and there can be no denying the ego stroking properties of such an enterprise, these perhaps being the principal reason for why some of the participants are there in the first place.
But I would no more participate in a duelling ladder to discover who was "best", any more than I would pour ££££ into the "Golden Tee" video golf game at my local pub, get my initials to the top of the rankings, and then crow to Tiger Woods about how good I was at video golf.
-
Shane: I've only played AH2 in h2h. I am sure you could beat me, I just wanted to get you mad. Obviously you're the one with the tiny little ego getting mad over a game:)
Thus I proved my point. Ladder is something for arm-chair warriors to thump their chests about. I'm glad you're so skilled at a video game. Mama and Daddy must be thrilled now if only you'd move out of their basement they'd probably buy you a cookie too.
Teq: We don't.
As beetle said, being a pilot of any sort doesn't make you all that great of a flight sim GAME pilot. Just as a GAME pilot would know nothing of REAL flying.:) Besides it's different from game to game, sure you have some basic ACMs..etc but a game is a game, there is not one of you that could go from being a 1337 AH pilot and enter a brand new game and kill a 1337 pilot from that game, just won't happen. Nor is AH the best flight sim ever made, may be to you because you're good at it but doesn't mean it is the best.
Dueling 1 v 1 also has nothing to do with MA skill. You do not need SA in a duel, in MA SA is pretty much the most important thing. Countless other "skills" that duels do not require that are required in MA. So my original point about it being a way to make you feel better about yourself and inflate your ego stands. Shane obviously needs it!

I cut your reply short on quoting it beetle, no offense,
I have the opinion of a dueling ladder only shows how good the participating people are at dueling in as close as a fair fight is possible, it shows nothing more, and nothing less, I do not necessarly think it means you are good at the game as a whole, you might be but the ladder does not help prove this, and really it is only dueling 1 vs 1 in same planes, loadouts etc., there is nothing else.
now as for the game as a whole, how many times have you seen numerous fair or close to fair fights in any arena? out side of a organized duel?
to me dueling has no bearing on the game , it only shows who is good at dueling amongst the participants of said ladder.......... this is my serious view not any junk talk ( no one saw my ill attempt at humor I guess )
also: it is another way to attain enjoyable fun and entertainment from the game

ah Rgr Raid, heck I didn't know didn't even bother to look it up......
as for the 1 vs 1 Dueling needs no SA, I don't see where you would think this, if you are really a F16 pilot in real life,
SA is in my view always the most important thing........before anything else......regardless of which arena you are in or if in real life flying........just my view, ain't tryin to be or sound hateful

Wrong. The Aces High vs. Warbirds challenge awhile back showed that players from either game could do a pretty good job of competing with the best that the other had to offer in a very short period of time.
Dueling 1 v 1 also has nothing to do with MA skill.
The two are definitely correlated but not perfectly so. Those who excel in the dueling ladders tend to do well in the arenas when they play for rank. I do agree, however, that situational awareness plays a very important part in MA success.

I was on the original flightsimladder, was up in the ranks for 5 months with no challenger, would it be the same in AH2?

:p

Ya, any player I've run into in the DA that's smacked me around has smacked me around in the MA too.
I joined the ladder because, dueling is fun, it's the only place where you can get a fair fight around here, and I figure any tips or tricks I pick up in a duel will be applicable to some MA situation.
-
now go finalize it TW9 :)

I don't mean SA as in always watching the other aircraft. I mean SA as in being aware of your surroundings, location/alt of other hostiles, fuel - ammo. You can fixate on a single target and pay nothing else any attention.
Watching the plane you're currently engaged with isn't SA, SA is watching the ones you aren't...as well as other listed and unlisted things.
-
DMF: Most people who play AH have also played WB and vice verse.

I'd say that most of the people who fly AH have never flown WB. Most now hail from one form or another of Air Warrior if anything.
I did just fine hopping into Warbirds with no experience in it at all. Mostly you have to adjust to different stall characteristics and general handling and aim discrepencies, but ACM is ACM no matter where you fly.

ok Raid........just a different view of opinions
if you are going to be coming to the MA, CT, DA and need any help shoot me or any of the other Trainers an email we be glad to help , even if it's only being a target
from the way you described the SA quote above, I find it very hard to believe your F16 pilot post now........
really though, you can do a search on the internet that will give you most impressive write ups on SA, anything from official military documents to all the different online flight simulations.....

I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying TC.
I'm not saying not to watch the enemy you're fighting? I'm also not saying that isn't SA. What I was saying is that isn't ALL what SA is not even what MOST of SA is. SA in modern combat situations or even training is much different than SA in a ww2 era flight sim.
Maybe tomorrow I'll go into more detail but for now I am going to bed.

you probably right Raid, I do read into things differently sometimes

I agree, as far as you only dealing with 1 chance to live in Real Life, verses the way the game lets one have the luxury to continously get kilt with out care , etc..
Maybe tomorrow I'll go into more detail but for now I am going to bed.
No worries Raid, I stayed up to late myself and didn't give you the benefit of the doubt
The training offer was not meant to slight you Raid, it was genuine :)

One of the best reasons for joining the dueling ladder is its fun, and you'll probably have a good time dueling win or lose. Most are good sports and you might make some more friends.
-
Awraid where are..or were ..u stationed? Im former f-16 avi. tech. Worked all training bases so i got to see the best of our rookie pilots breakin planes left and right:P What block do you fly?
-
They are secret missions Jaxxo. Flown over Iraqu and places like dat. :D
So he cant tell you. :p

Can anyone point out a person who is good a dueling but sucks in the MA?
-
Nope...

I suck at both.
-
Sucks is a relative term. All the great duelers can rack up mass kills very quickly... landing them? That's a different story :D
Some kind of cherry picking score potato who wouldn't know what to do w/ a bandit on his 6 is what you're referring to I believe. I think Voss fits that.
-
Oops, got it backwards hehe. No, I don't think there are any good duelers who suck :aok
-
Stang...
We dont land kills, if we get one and we both suck... Get it right.
-
We sucketh
-
You ever watch a group of dogs pee on rocks? One dog pees, then another pees on his pee and then another and they all dehydrate trying to out pee each other. Pretty soon they're just lifting their legs as if they're peeing but they ain't got none. Thank God for gatorade or we'd be just like them.
:D

ill try it one more tiem..i didnt liek the last simeladder..too many buttons to clik..

I joined the ladder last week, and havent had any time to do it. Hopefully this weekend I'll find some time.
