For any of you who've heard me talk on vox you've probably noticed that my voice is coming up *very* faintly. I have all my mic volumes at their maximum, so I can only assume that this cheap little $9.99 mic is to blame?
I don't know what kind it is, I don't have the box for it and the darn thing doesn't even have a label. I suppose there could be a solution better than buying a new one that I'm unaware of...
...But... Well, a headset wouldn't be a bad idea anyway. I don't personally take great offense to the rubbish that some people choose to spit out on range, but my family would prefer not to hear it. Besides, think of the shock of realizing my friends have been standing right next to me for 10 minutes while I've been chatting away completely clueless to their presence :cool:
I was wondering, does anyone have a particularly good headset/microphone set up that they are having good luck with? It's alright if it's a tad pricey so long as it'll last awhile, but if I can get something comparitive for cheaper I'd prefer that.

I use a cheap Packard Bell headphone and mic combined, only trouble I've ever had with one is sitting on it, (still worked but the mic arm broke off).
I'm in the UK and it cost me £9.99, I'm sure you could get one where ever you're at.
Just make sure you don't suffer from a heart condition as people sneaking up on you while you're engrossed in a fight is all too common, it also causes augers (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it).

I went a different route, I use Sennheiser HD600 headset.

And I attached a micrphone to one side with velcro, this way I could remove it easily for games or music where the mic would just be in the way. The mic I used sort of looks like this (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=33-3012) , but I ripped the ear peice off and attached it to the HD600
Hence, I get better sound than the cheap headsets, while still having a removeable microphone to use when I want. Not many headsets can compare to the quality the HD600 can give, besides, the mic I attached has vox, push to talk, and on/off functions.

If your going to use headphones then you have to try these. Three speakers each side, not heavy at all and great surround sound. You can pick out the direction of sounds in AH very well. One of the best buys i've ever made.

Went with the Sennheiser PC150 as I found one on Amazon for ~$40.00..... Figure I've already bought two el cheapo mics for half the price, I'll go with the caddi and see how i do.

Very nice set for the price. Nice and lightweight too
If you want a decent setup but only wanna spend around $20 its a pretty decent value

Hey Frost: how does the clip-on microphone sound? It looks like a Mickey-Mouse solution, but maybe you can tell us how it works, if you have one?

A few years ago, I was so engrossed in a game of Close Combat (I think the Russian Front one) that an event kind of like this occurred.
There I am, headphones on, merrily pushing my Tigers up for the attack, the machine gun fire is deafening, mortar shells are going off, the whole 9 yards.
Eventually, I (faintly) hear someone come to the door and ask my sister ".... ..... are you Jill? Jill? Where's Steven?". Well, I think nothing of it and continue to play away. Maybe ten minutes go by and more and more footsteps are in the house (the computer was in a living room, seperated by a wall to the entrance room). Still nothing... Finally my Tigers are about to close on the positions, and these strange red & blue flashing lights are dancing across the ceiling, "WTF? Oh well, the neighbor probably tried to burn down his house again, no bother"... About five minutes later someone startles me by tapping my shoulder. I swing the chair around and am staring at a few of my buddies from the police department :D
They weren't there for me, but still, it just goes to show that being messed up & playing a game with headphones can lead to some pretty interesting revelations.

I have a nice Medusa 5.1 surrond headphones I ordered from England (a German company that doesn't export to the US). Excellent reviews, four speakers per cup, deeep base, great Mic (use it for Via Voice) light, comfortable for hours... can't say enough about them. Fantastic. I find the sound to be better than the graphics with these in Doom 3.
Cost $90 for an order of two, with shipping, $120 for a single. Had to buy a radio shack ac adapter to use us current, but no problem.

I have the PC155 USB headphones and they are a nice addition and work well when I am traveling around on planes. They have a USB dongle of sorts that your headphones hook into and in that USB section is the integrated sound card in case your computer doesn't have a sound card it works pretty well but isn't recommended for a system with a sound card.

I have a plantronic usb headset/boom mic. they work great. I think it was around $50 when I got it. Plug it in and it acts as a separate sound card.
In roger wilco I have it setup to send the voice into the headset, and record form the boom mic. then the game sounds can come from my speakers. Wish AH would let you select which device to output voice, that would be nice.

just to be sure the mic volume that needs to be checked is the one located within AHII on the kneeboard, setup voice. Make sure the volume slider is all the way up. As for a mic and headset, get what you can afford, that way when you , drop, sit or step on it , you won't be out a lot of bucks. Enjoy

i never thought 5.1 headphones exsist.
