Educate your children, and put your feet down when you encounter these bastards for christ sake.

I DO find it amazing that they gain popularity again in YOUR country with YOUR history.

Societies are like candy bars, they most often always contain 10% nuts.

Better to have them where you can keep an eye on their intentions, instead of backroom shenanigans.

The neo-Nazi NPD will now be represented in a German state parliament for the first time since 1968, a year after the then West German authorities in Berlin tried and failed to have the party outlawed.

So are the communists, why did you neglect them? The NPD will have liitle to no impact on policy and will be marginalized to such a point where they will be all but useless.

The Communists and those who would form a coalition with them is where the real "threat" comes from.

Sorry this is slightly off topic, but this caught my attention:

" Gains by the far-right and ex-communists point to widespread anger at economic conditions in the former east, where unemployment is twice the level in the west, and at the government's reform plans."[/i]

The German constitution contains "und arbeit fur alles" correct?  From what I've read, you Germans sure like your work :)  Is it possible the far right NPD have some sort of plan or solution to help aid the unemployment?  Aside from calling them nazi's outright, would this have something to do with the recent gain?  If thats not correct, then is there any obvious answer to the gain?  Cultural shifts?  Immigration (turks)?  East Germans perhaps?

I really have no stance here as I haven't read much about the NPD... so don't think I'm defending anyone ;)

Thats ridiculous.

The german neonazi parties - like DVU, NPD or the republicans - have been elected in regional parliaments 14 times since WW2.

And in the next following election they were washed out again.

So its nothing new.

Also they never got power in these parliaments.

If you really want to be alarmed then maybe you should check right-wing and fashistoid parties like

in France the party of LePen who is agitating against foreigners
or
in Austria the party of Haider
or
in Italy where Belusconi is ruling
or
the Netherlands where the assassinated Pim Furtoyn (dont know if the name is written correctly)
got so many votes.

Only few examples of some european nations where fascistoid parties have got real power.

The 9% of the NPD in Sachsen will have no power and in 4 year the people wont elect them again - like always when a naziparty has managed to come in one of the german regional parliaments.

Its the luck for germany that the german fascistoid parties dont have a charismatic leader like Berlusconi, Haider or LePen.

So they have no chance.

i'm sure its about cultural shift, immigration and not enough jobs especialy
in east germany. yes.
sad is some people think voting for NPD will change everything for better, more jobs ect.
no party can do magic, and c'mon all this NPD want is power, nothing else.
Its so easy to fall into far right traps, or far left traps too.

The problem of the big parties as CDU and SPD, along with their tails FDP and Greens, is that many people - especially in the east - feel ignored and neglected. For example in Saxonia the CDU government created industrial centers which do grow and produce jobs, but

a) these jobs are heavily subsidized by the state (up to 50k Euros per job per anno)

and

b) other regions are neglected completely.

Up to 80% of the young people do emigrate into the western federal states because they don't have a perspective in the east. There is no economic growth in large areas with average unemployment rates of 20-25%.

This is one thing. The second one is the basic ignorance of the "democratic parties". In the former GDR voting went this way - the SED and its cronies put up a list of candidates and the voter could vote either yes or no. Today with all larger parties propagating the very same policies there is no real difference to said ex-GDR votes, with the exception there is no "NO" on the ballot. More than 40% of the people did not vote at all and those who did considered voting for the rightwing extremists a valid sign of their protest (according to a statistic 80% of the NPD voters did vote for them out of frustration and protest).

I'd guess anyone who would mention "foreskin detectors" and "jew-spawn" would be a candidate.
