Title: New Pacific Fighters news
Post by: AKS\/\/ulfe on September 23, 2004, 12:34:56 PM
Pacific Fighters will launch with a multiplayer mode that will allow up to 128 players to participate in live online in aerial dogfights!
For the first time in any retail combat flight simulation, Pacific Fighters will allow massive live engagements for up to 128 players in dogfight mode on the same dedicated server via Internet or LAN. Cooperative play and dynamic online campaigns are also available for up to 32 players. Whether it’s in dogfight or cooperative mode, Pacific Fighters will provide an unparalleled online multiplayer experience. In addition to live players, the game also includes a large number of AI-controlled aircraft, ships and ground vehicles. Pacific Fighters provides a faithful re-creation of the most decisive battles of WWII’s Pacific theater, in famous locations like Midway, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima, where the courage of a single pilot could turn the tide of war.

"We are thrilled to offer flight-sim enthusiasts the opportunity to fight in massive live engagements. Aerial dog-fighting between live opponents in multiplayer will never be the same again. The opportunity to join huge squadrons or plan a Task Force to route the enemy will be amazing in Pacific Fighters," said producer Fabrice Cambounet.

Backed by Oleg Maddox and the team that created the IL-2 series, Pacific Fighters allows players to participate in the most compelling Pacific air war experience ever created.

“It’s great to be able to provide one place for fans of 1C: Maddox games to visit for the most up-to-date content, forums and news on the entire line of Oleg Maddox games, including the IL-2 games already released and the new Pacific Fighters, which is coming soon,” said Ilya Shevchenko, lead development producer. “Fans who have played and enjoyed any of the IL-2 games will love Pacific Fighters with its new Pacific theater location and its upgraded multiplayer options.”

Good stuff.

Someone will always say it's not '450" players.

Man, just to have the 40 player AH1 MA again... Smooth, and fun as hell.

Marketing, its called marketing. Who cares?

It boosts up to 128 players and there's no monthly fee.

Some of you would argue with a wall if it made a funny noise.

That sounds great, I tried the 64 player servers and had a blast now 128?!

another piece of news worth a smile was that gun flashes are going to be "fixed" in PF also.

"SVGA AW, AW2, AW3, WB, and WW2OL were all sold retail."

 I owe you a noogy.

 Although_____ technically_____

You have to ("had" in AW's case) pay a subscription to play (and WB's "retail" offering is/was a sham)

I've never played IL2 online, nor much offline, but AFAIK multiplayer is free and inclusive to buying the retail box.

" gun flashes are going to be "fixed""

lol. I recall the rabidly, fanatical replies from the Cult of Oleg that the enourmous flashes were correct.

You could have 1000 people in a persistant environment and it still woultn't matter to me unless Oleg fix that viewing system.

AW at its best allowed like 110 people in an arena.  128 is plenty.  The AH MA with 400+ people lumped together is...a waste of potential.

Not having a monthly fee will work in PF's favor too, of course .

HTC was always ahead of the rest by using unrealistic views, which made for much better gameplay, and made it obviously wildly popular by you and many others, me included.

I'd hate to be in a real 109 in real life and not see watermelon on my 6 all mission long either.

Some guys like that realism. Each his own. Oleg just needs a torso lean model, which would give you little more view to what  is there now, but make it damn near as real as anyone could argue.

Cept for the gamers that hate that limiting realism stuff. And don't get me wrong, I understand.

This is great news. There have been a few servers testing the 64 limit. I believe Camo and Company did some tests on the Virtual Pilots server.

Even on DF servers where theres just 32 max the level of fun is very high.

Those who "hate the view system" its the same view system thats beeen around in every other flight game except AH. With Track IR or any of the 3rd view programs I have no issue at all with the views.

YMMV

What is a realistic, fairly unbiased assesment of the flight models and damage/gunnery models compared to AH?

Those flamethrower muzzles were always a deal breaker to me, good to see the change. I may give it a shot.

AW Euro arenas held up to 150 and the Big Pac arena held up to 250. This was on Gamestorm, dunno about AoL and before the GEnie.

Compared to AHII, I couldn't tell you. Although, I hear the gunnery is more difficult in AHII and requires being closer than the original AH.

In that respect, Il2:FB/AEP (soon to be a PF appended to that) is almost exact. Convergence matters, and so does actually hitting the target at your convergence setting. I don't play with icons on most of the time, depends on if I'm on War_Clouds server or greatergreen... don't think either actually have range on anyway, but to get back to my point - if you hit at convergence you do more concentrated damage to a part of the airplane you aimed at. This can mean severing wings, ripping off the rear fuse, setting the fuel tank or engine on fire, blowing the plane up, etc. Also shooting up a plane while sitting on its dead six is not as deadly as it is when you shoot at them from above or below. Like if they are in a turn and you get a lead shot where your bullets will be smacking their wing from above rather than behind, this typically results in a quick burst snapping the wing off.

Long shots are possible, but not easy - and never fatal.

Flight model - all subjective really. Damage to plane parts affects performance, more likely to get into a spin with damage to the wing (if you pull too hard) and the other typical damage resulting in degraded. Personally to me, they seem very close. Don't really notice any differences between AH and Il2, except that it's harder to do the NIKI hang on prop deal because you lose aileron control at low speeds (about 30km/hr).

What frustrates me in MAs is the "you shot me down, I am taking off right away in a LA7 to chase you home".

In FBs, it's about the same, DFs servers is for quakers. I like the missions because when you don't want to get shot down.

MA style would be better for me with
----------------------
You get shot down, you have an airport penalty, can't take off from the same one.
----------------------
Avoids the MA silliness like constant suiciding defenders hoping to leave the ground, or the "just shot down" frustrated pilot who takes of in a fast plane and run you down home (or backstab you while you are fighting your way out Vs other planes).

Greatergreen enforces supply limits with regards to planes and pilots. People fly a little more cautious there (not much tho).

On War_Clouds, the have a 3 death kick-ban for 5 minutes. This keeps the good people in, and the dingleberries don't last long enough for you to care.

I like the Df's much better then the missions now. The missions get "gamed" more the any other. I have given up on onlines wars.

For the most part its either a noe rush to drop ord run home land or fly around until every one gets bored.

Most of the players don't fly the "missions" they just game you.  I would prefer missions if folks "flew the mission". They rarely do that any more. Most head out in different directions and set up a camp some where.

The DF's have much better action. The scripted df's keep the maps rotating and as SW mentions on Warclouds there's death kick and on GG they have ac limits so everyone doesnt end up in the "bestest planes".

Here's thread on SImHQ by Camo after testing the 64 limit:

http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=98;t=012597

In DF's I grab a g14 climb to 2000m and start knocking down farm bois. Its lotsa of fun.

Then you should drop in at Virtualpilots_1. Historical missions, maps and planesets. And as you know, the Finns didnt really have any late war monsters. ;)

Thanks for the good words Wotan!  :)

And welcome to Virtualpilots_1 everyone. We're currently testing the 64 player server, hopefully the 128 server will arrive soon!

"AW Euro arenas held up to 150 and the Big Pac arena held up to 250. This was on Gamestorm..."

That is correct.   That is the AW3 era on GS and later, EA.

AW DOS 1.2 on Genie and AWFW on AOL allowed 110 max in the normal arenas.

The Pacific Fighters game, with that 128 limit, might cause things to get shuffled up in the online flightsim world.  I think HTC will probably weather it, but I'm not so sure about "brand W".

AH MA was allot more fun with 100 to 200 players, luckly for me given the time difference I still got to log on most nights when the MA was off peek and still around those numbers.

Logging on during peek times was always a half hour affair as the large number gangers and furballs is pretty uninteresting.

WW2OL air war is a waste of time with its 64 player limit. If Pacfic Fighters can pull off 128 with smooth gameplay should be very interesting.
