When looking from this perspective.. AH2 is really good! If only better explosion graphics, hit sprites, and etc eye candy..
One can only hope!!
I know this belongs in the Films and Screenshots sections, but the quality of the gun cam footages made by Sanjini, our non-MA squad member, is pretty impressive and I thought I might share it with you guys. :)
AH2 Guncams, by Sanjini (http://org.fighters.co.kr:9000/caribbean/old_gallery/upload/211721674074420040917232025.wmv)
Enjoy!

My sincerest condolences to the pilots who lost their lives.
O wait...this is a game?!?
Great work by your squadmate!
-
HOLY CRAP!! That is the best AH gun cam footage I have ever seen. Any layman would take it as authentic footage, and even experts need a second look.
My question: How do you get these views, with out the cockpit art in the way? Is it a feature of the film viewer? I haven't played around much with that....
-
11mb...oooh i hate 56k...but the first 3 seconds are good...
-
Honestly, I have no idea how he does that.
Some interesting points are;
1) when viewed in guncam speed, the AH bombers definately don't seem 'weak' at all!
2) the 'white glob' hit sprites look pretty natural in black and white guncams. This is probably due to the fact that since camera technology wasn't very good in those days, light sources such as bright flashes(incendiary, or HE) tend to get overexposure - and thus, look like AH hit sprites. Ofcourse, that's what it'd look like in films - not necessarily real life.
3) the fires and explosions, definately need some eye-candy upgrades! :)
-
Very nice I'm very impressed. and I feel...
"It's time to get more realistic Hit Stripes!!!" ;)

al I got when I clicked on the link was a window that said this

I only see the same thing that Dreidock posted - what's going on?

try to do a right click "save as"

It works if you do that. For some reason the .wmv isn't prompting it to be launched by media player when you just click on it.

Amazing footage, and the music choice is unxpected but great. Awesome in every way!

Not really unexpected GRUN ...

It must be really boring in france.. :D
-
To be quit honest...that was great!
Part of me feels a little guilty because it does look realistic.
-
Can't get it to work fella's whasssup wit dat ??

Really nice!!
Nopoop, save it and then right click > open with > choose program > windows mediaplayer. Should work.

@nopoop : you can't play the film or download it ?

EXCELLANT !!!
Saved as "all files" and then "open with" wmv.
How'd he do it ?? :D
-
He did it with Windows Movie maker i do believe. I made some similar films with the Black and White conversion.
-
But how did he get the point of view w/o cockpit art/gunsites, etc?

Whilst the music selection may have been unexpected , the lack of damage to the Spitfires Left WingTip in Take #2 was to be expected. oh yeah...and rediculas too. :p
-
Very nice indeed. How long did it take to make?
We should have AH Oscars.

Oh look, another the Spitfire is porked. How original. My God, I'd never seen that claim made before . How could they possibly have over looked that?
Oh wait, Spitfire wings are incredibly fragile in AH and come off, if anything, excessively easily. Perhaps, most likely really, most, or all, of those strikes were 7.92mm? Nah, couldn't be.
Way to go, Mugzeee, somepeople can turn anything into a whine.
-
I thought it was a rather unique way to hijack a thread to a whine Karnak.
Gotta give props for that.
:aok

that looks great!! good job:D :aok
now, did anyone else notice the first 38? got hit on rear rudder (looked like) and the whole tail section fell off? or did i not see it right?

Outstanding!

Saw it too. It's footage #5(Nr.0010 :D ).
Looks like a concentrated hit on the right fuselage and wing root. Probably a group of MG hits and maybe one or two 30mm hit.
What would happen if a P-38 receives concentrated damage(powerful enough to break the area off) on one of its rear mid/fuselage areas? Would only that rear fuselage rip off? Or would both rip off like in the film?
-
Excelent work. Were the firing planes using MGs?

ya its like that in il2 as well, not so bad tho, i wish it would just take off one side instead, still unrealistick but less enoying, would be interesting to c how the p38 would fly with one tail boom and half the elevator. heck they should just make it bend down or something.
-
oh and its good to c someone has figured out how to use the ah film editor, must have had some upgrades since i last dorked around with it. Cant wait till the f5 cam can zoom in more, heck if they all could that would be great.

It is if you havnt a clue what the song name ment LOL
Judging from what I've seen here I wouldnt imagine that a very large segment of the AH population is exactly cultured enough to recognise Music - Habanera; L'amour est un oiseau rebelle
LMAO

Must be nice.
would love to try my hand at makeing a couple films and have a couple of really cool ideas for them but I cant even figure out how to get the film VIEWER to work the way I want it to let alone the editor

:aok :aok :aok Bravo!!!!Very nice! That would make a great recruiting video for an LW squad.Hell I`d join in a second if I wasn`t already in an LW squad!

I'm currently downloading a file being "saved as" an html document. It is over 10 meg though.
Do I just change the extension to .wmv?

Just save it as a .wmv file and view it with media player

That is my point. It won't save as a wmv file, only an html file. Do you mean I should have changed it myself prior to d/ling?

Never mind...it worked.
Fantastic stuff...love the music.

Being French helped me greatly :) plus Carmen (by Georges Bizet) is perhaps the most famous opera existing

not too keen on saying excellent
but .....
excellent

Copy the short cut. Open Windows Media Player. Click file/open url... and paste the url.
It will start playing as soon as it buffers enough of the file.
You dont have to do all that save as... stuff, you're making it harder than it is ;)

Watch the Hits on the outer left wing and say the wing tip shouldnt have fallen off.
It was simply and observation. Nice to have on film i might add.
.wtg on making a comment to start an argument. :p
PS...i dont think the spitfire is porked. I think the damage model is lacking. Its obvious from the Film footage. ;)

awsome film:)
is that gonna be the ah commercial:D

i agree mugs, it does look like alot of hits for one wingtip. but, on the other hand, the spit wings fall off from a strong headwind, let alone cannon rounds, so for me its good to see a lucky escape for that pilot.
personally i have had my wing shot up in similar fashion before and had massive surface damge, but the wing stayed intact.
if it was only MG rounds that hit it, it would only put a few holes where the bullets struck.
look at this screenie for serious damage, but still flyable.
i think it is good that HTC have coded 'luck' into the game a bit more than AH1. it seems more realistic than having an exact % of hits and, *wham* your wing is off!
ever seen how much damage other planes can withstand? or are you just jaded towards spitfires? :p

I agree sir, that is refreshing to see. But if the Spitfire is weak skinned. Then so be it.
BTW GREAT FILM. I think thats what Karnak is mouthin about.
I forgot to say "Great Film!
BTW GREAT FILM.
BTW...Windows Movie Maker is very capable of such a finished product ;)
I have never ever responded or posted that i think Spitfires are porked uber or anything of the sort. The spitfire is a fine AC why do you think it is so loved in the MA. The uber complaints mostly come from players that are constantly getting pummed by em.

I think what happens is the horizontal stabilizer departs the aircraft - which has the same effect on pitch control as the entire tail coming off. Maybe the modelling was easier if the tail breaks off ( as it does on other airplanes ). I seem to remember the stabilizer as a weakness of the P-38.
If one boom comes off, the horizontal will not stay. On a clean break, you lose control, if it stays with the airplane and fouls the rudders - you lose control... in either case, (-% to the chance of hitting the airplane and dying trying to bail out, maybe; maybe +% because it's tumbling...).

I cant seem to download this. First the 'connection was reset by the server', and now I'm getting DNS errors to the link.
Any other place to get this video?
-
Awesome...."BRAVO"!!
-
For those of you who haven't seen them, these "gun camera films" are based on the style of Luftwaffe training films. Some of the terms are:
Angriff = attack
Anflug = approach
Kurvenkampf = turn fight
Anfangsentfernung = initial distance
Abgang = exit (in the theatrical sense)
von hinten = from behind
von links oben = from left above
in der Verfolgungskurve (should be one word, I think) = in tracking turn
I can live with the hit sprites, but the generic explosion has got to be more aerodynamic.
As for the P-38's tail coming off...it would look (be?) more realistic if instead of coming off all at once intact, the tail came off in large pieces; first the right boom, which rips away the horizontal stabilizer, which pulls off part of the left boom.
Sanjini, very well done. And I loved the music.

That was simply beautiful. Kweassa, can you ask him to drop me an email?

Once again, I try to download this, only to have my connection get reset by the server, followed by nothing but DNS errors when trying to download it again.
Does anyone else have this video somewhere more accessable?

i can transfer the video to you via yahoo messenger, tails.
my yahoo i.d. is "ragingf4i"
but, i'm going afk for 1/2 an hour.
send me a PM via Yahoo Messenger if you want me to send you the file.

I'd be more than happy to host it if I can get Sanjini's permission.
-
Please consider improving explosion and hit-stripe effects too... ;)
-
Did the wizard who made those films slow the original AH films down? I agree they look stunning, all the more so for showing the aircraft rolling at rates that look a lot more like original guncams than AH craft.
Or, should the question be, did the original guncam films slow things down?
Cheers,
Scherf

Exactly what mitsu said and small smoke puffs for cannon hits should also be considered than just a hit sprite IMO.
Great film except that the a/c moves rather funny in filmviewer. (sorta mechaincally lookin' or sumthin...)
-C+
-
The films I've seen of WarBirds III are particularly good in this regard - there are puffs of smoke/dust as hits occur on the target plane, and sometimes larger secondary puffs with debris breaking away into the slipstream.

Pyro, Sanjini says its absolutely ok to use his film to whatever purpose.
Also, he asked me to contact you instead due to language problems. Should I drop you an email?
-
Sure Kweassa, drop me an email.
-
Pyro...please let us know when you start hosting this. I really want to send it to some pretty computer illiterate people and clicking an e-mail link is about the only way they will be able to view it.
-
Excellent video.
However, I do agree with the hit sprites. Its also important to know that they werent just flashes. In some cases they were puffs for for larger cannon rounds if they hit an aircraft, not just a sprite. Also upgrading the model would be awesome.
-
HOLY CRAP!! I feel like the videos I've been working on are being done with crayons and construction paper.
I you Sanjini!
BTW... these are done so well, I'd like to see the old film that used to be on the net which was actually LW training footage... just to show people how good this film really is. Anyone have a link to it?
Nevermind, found a copy of it. :D

btw, can anyone tell me which opera piece was used in this film?
thank you.

Kweassa, I keep getting "Cannot find server or DNS Error" with the link to the guncam film.
Is it hosted anywhere else?
Thanks
