"Supporters of a failed bill to give drivers' licenses to undocumented immigrants are threatening to lead an economic boycott of California."

Title of thread says it all. Jeebus.

Hmmm... story says it all:
QUOTE
A similar boycott 10 years ago caused a meeting of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists to bypass San Diego.

So... who is stupid?
-
The people who want to let ILLEGAL aliens get driver's licenses.

Well... I agree... wanting to give illegal immigrants licenses is a stupid move.
OTOH, a boycott is probably a smart way to show their displeasure.
-
How do you boycott California? 95% of the people who support this bill live in California. Are they going to stop paying rent?
-
Maybe they'll boycott by not sending illegals over anymore.
-
I'd be happier if the illegals wanting drivers licenses would just leave. Their supporters can leave too. Less traffic to deal with. Get the f**k out, go away. Calif doesn't need their money and on a per-person base, those people (the illegals and the handout-grabbing losers who support them) suck up more tax revenue than they contribute so good riddance. Leech off someone else for a change.

Wow, an association of so called journalists (are there REALLY any REAL journalists still around?) bypassed San Diego. Big fat hairy deal.
Who is stupid?
Anyone who is supporting giving ILLEGAL ALIENS anything besides a ride 500 miles past the border.

If that bill was passed, it would be unfair for those who came here LEGALLY with "skills". And it's much harder to enter US today than 10-20 yrs ago.
Born in the Philippines, lived in the US for 8 yrs now, just waiting 3-4 yrs so i can apply for citizenship
:)

This goes back to the 'Big Cement Trench one mile wide and twenty feet steep' Idea for the borders.

1K3 how would it make it more difficult for legal immigrants like you? When I recently moved to another state I had to present my original birth certificate (not a copy), my actual social security card (not just my SSN), plus a copy of my rental agreement and a utility bill to get a driver's license. And I'm a US citizen from birth. What is wrong with asking legal immigrants to prove that they are here legally? And is there anything wrong with telling illegals hell no?

ra.. I believe that 1k is saying that it is unfair to give illegalls free licencdes when he has had to work so hard. He is saying what a lot of legals of mexican decent I know are saying... they are pissed at the illegals and don't think it is fair that their legal staus is trivialized.
The illegals don't have a lot of support from the hard working legals here.

D'oh. Sorry 1K3, I can't read.

how about being a citizen AND reading and writing the language ... WOW - what a concept!!
toss them back over the border and there is an immediate surplus of jobs ... but the dems wouldn't want that ... some of them would actually have to leave the house for their paycheck..
