Wow, I am really impressed with your work man.

I may have to consult you for your expertise for the construction of one ;)

How do the Rocket/Guns toggle work? I know looking at it its functional and I'm sure its easy to explain, but I can't see how it works to my eyes.

BTW, do you have a bailout switch, or do you have the cockpit seat rigged so that once it recieves no weight, a spring activates bailout procedure?

RT,quite simple really, most of the switches are hard-wired to a hacked keyboard, while i have other that require a "shift or ctrl" command wired through a series of relays and powered by a compact 12V system,my next console which will be on my right side, will have another similiar setup for bail-out,relay switch clicking 3 times to bailout and one more to hit "O" to open chute.
thxs again RTsigma

very nice

are the gauges just for show or will they display realtime info?
Title: Simpit Update
Post by: nsty1 on September 28, 2004, 09:29:36 AM
Thxs Eagler,
Gauges will/are powered by 24V,they will be modified to accept a stepper motor, keeping the same facing and hopefully needle,
they will run through a slave system that will read flight and display on actual gauges.

I was talking to HiTec at the con and he said that the instrument out puts are avalible in the soft ware and could be avalible to simpit builders in the future , My pit is very generic and depends on the game engine for all readouts, but I envision a over the canopy projector system with the gages opprated from outputs sent from the program.  Rember I said "could" and the time frame is probably "Two Weeks".

Gunns

that dispenses potables to the pilot, I still need to install a phone, and maby an intercom to the front door......

lol!! 68DevilM,not a whole lot! i made it a point to accomplish something everyday, even if it meant i had to work out the problem on paper first.Biggest time consumed was actually on the instrument panel,6 days,2 hours per day, just to draw a grid on the back side and finalize where each gauge would go.
cutting the holes out took another 4 hours, one shot,no mistakes.

Mugz! Thank you sir,it's an honor to fly with the 444th more so under you. You lead against impossible odds and still you get us through to target, even if we end up doing it 3 times :)
but the best part yet of the simpit that i'm truly looking forward to is when i can "skin it" and paint  the mafia logo.

As far as instrument data goes, you could find someone good at programming to make some sort of packet sniffer that analyzes the data going to the server, since all that information has to go there in the first place. If you are able to figure out what is what, you could make a program that then sends a signal out to your gauges based on what is being sent to the servers.  With this information, you not only could supply data to instrument clusters, but also make an analog ammo counter, some sort of damage display, separate Radar screen. All sorts of cool stuff. Only problem I see is finding out what all the packet data means. If the data is encrypted, then you're SOL. Then again, I don’t know much about how you would go about doing this in the first place, but Its been done in other server based mmo's.
