I'm still having trouble landing in AH2....could 've been my training at the Mexican Backhills Aviation School, here's the head trainer comin in now..

I have problems there too.
Anyone post an info of how to land correctly? maybe one of the real pilots?
-
Low speed is the key.
Some planes with high and wide landing gears have no problems at high speed landings. However, planes with narrow landing gears and big props have issues when attempting at speeds over 150mph.
The speed is too fast, so the plane wants to bounce back up when the wheel touches the ground.
To lower the speed you need to use flaps, but you can't use landing position(full flaps) when the speed is so high.
To make it worse, the flaps create additional lift temporarily, which makes it highly likely to make the plane bounve back up and overshoot the runway.
So your plane doesn't slow down fast enough, to keep the plane down so the wheels can contact the ground and use breaks, you start pushing the stick forward a bit.
Then bam! In many cases the plane has to maintain nose pitch under the horizon to be kept on the ground, which is when the props strike. Also, since the tail gears aren't touching the ground it also wants to ground loop
...
Ofcourse, that's what usually happens with me in a 109. Why the Ta152H with a nice, tall, wide landing gear wants to topsy-turvy so much, I don't quite understand.
-
What do you fly? some planes seem to have an easier time landing then others.
I know I would almost swear the 190's have superballs for tires sometimes where I can land american planes smooth as silk.
I like to come in around 150 with flaps or jussst above stallspeed
Watch your altimeter as well as the runway you want your rate of decent to be as little as possible on touchdown
Im not a real pilot but thats how I do it within the game
-
25% flaps, trim your elevators down,as soon as wheels are about to touch, throttle down, pull back slightly, presto,on the ground.this works for me
-
Here's what I do.
I use flaps to help slow me down , and normally land with 3 notches of flap. Keep lowering them as your speed drops.
Gear down at 160 mph (this will help slow you down as well due to the increased drag).
As I cross the threshold of the runway I like to see my airspeed at no faster than 110 mph and no slower than 100 mph.
Once you cross the threshold you should be pretty close to your touchdown point, and flaring a few feet above the pavement.
Now if all is done correctly you should settle on the deck at between 90 and 100 mph. As soon as you are on the deck you will decelerate pretty rapidly. Pull back on the stick to lock the tail wheel (it will help you track straight). Steer to maintain centerline by using differential braking (the C and V keys) or use rudder.
cheers,
RTR

I use hard rudder to slow the aircraft down on approach, dropping flaps and gear as the speed lowers. Once I'm down to about 100mph I let up on the rudders and line up on the runway. If I have the altitude right I won't gain much or any speed at this point, then it is just a matter of gently touching down. If the stall buffeting is happening when the wheels touch the ground and there is no jarring impact I know I've done it right.

Landing?
-
Everyone knows the hood of a Toyota pickup truck is too small an area to land on!!
Seriously if you cant land...leave the wheels up and ditch on the runway...works if you are fast too.
-
Really? You guys cant land?
-
Speed below 120. I land at 100 or less at toch down.
-
i got bord of landing so i come in at 300 mph and skid to a halt. sometimes when im feeling frisky....after i touch down i turn left on the stick and it makes ya do a sideways skid. and if ya really bord do a 360 on the runway while you are skidding lol.
course when ya gotta hotpad, ya gotta land wheels down.
-
im with dragoon, with the new ditching models i come in full throttle at around 350 and rip off my wings as i dramatically skid to a halt. I then climb out like nuthings happend throw the key to valet parker and tell him to get me good spot.:aok

I've been flying with the Radish king for years, and all the landing advice in the world wont help him. For the advice to have any effect, believe you need to get away from bad guys and back to base. bumba when was the last time you got within 10k of returning home. usually he is pouring cocktails in the tower as we reappear in the tower.
And bumba that plane looks alot like yours and is that a labatts blue I see in the winshield

On downwind, speed under 160, 1 notch of flaps. Turn onto base, speed at about 120, 2 notches of flaps. Turn onto final, lower one more notch of flaps, flare just as you pass the end of the runway. Remember - flying's easy, landings are the hardest part!
-
Wow, some guys are using only minimal flaps!!??
Gentlemen, the easiest landing is usually the slowest landing. Big bounces, ground loops and other nasty ditties result from being too hot over the numbers (runway numbers). Slow down! Kill your airspeed BEFORE you get onto the downwind leg (theoretical in AH2 as we have no wind). Use your rudder to side-slip and let the increased drag decelerate your fighter. Start getting those flaps down as soon as you get below minimum deployment speed. Get them ALL THE WAY DOWN. Lower your gear as you go below minimum deployment speed. Don't make your final approach too low (if you can't see the runway over your nose, you're too low). Don't make your approach too high (if your airspeed is going up despite power to idle, full flaps and gear down, you're too high).
Remember to flair the aircraft, holding the nose slightly high. Let the plane settle onto the runway. Just about the time the wheels touch, your stall warning should start to squeel. Flair too high and you'll drop onto the runway like a sack of rocks. Flair too low and you'll bound up off the runway like a kangaroo. Go to the TA and practice. Practice landing fighters with the most difficult low speed handling characteristics. Planes like the Typhoon, the 190A-8 and even the Yaks are good planes to hone your skills in (yes gents, the Yaks suffer terrible tip stall at low speeds, making them the only fighters that require relatively high touch-down speeds).

Ok the tip. Put flaps down. Slowly edge off at the run way..Then.!!!!!Pftt who lands. I ram the sucker in the ground :p Land my kill and its done. Simple as that..

Jeeez, little do you know Doobs, it has been the radishes, and the gas there of produced, which has allowed me to land that fixed tri gear at a mere 55 knts. 2 meters after threshold consistantly. I would probably guess that the weak link in this failed landing attempt, was probably due to a bad batch of radishes.

lol:rofl

Dont forget the TA 152 with its ceramic landing gear LOL

bumba after closer review, When did u put the upper rear gun turret
-
With the Yak I sometimes find it necessary to apply extra throttle just before touchdown. When I do it its more a feel thing. But in general when I feel that Im loosing alt to fast and feel that Im gonna smack down hard (going low speed with very little lift left) I just increase the throttle as Im about to touch down. This gives me a boost of lift just before the touch down and I land it smoothly.

Fullstall 3point landing is the way you land all taildragger aircraft
-
Are the flight models anything like Il2FB_AEP? In there, I always rip the wheels off because I'm coming in too hard or too fast. In the tail-draggers it's easy to flip over if you stand on the brakes while going too fast. Yeah, 150 is pretty hot to land most of the prop planes in either sim.

The worst is to glide in an outta-gas yak. That thing feels like it falls faster than it flies.
