Curvy, I said sometimes. I could stand that brand of fun once a month or so.

Never had a moral problem with shooting at sand either.

Rude be nice. (hehe)

I did not mean to start any fights by posting this. It wasnt meant to put ideologies or nations against one another.

The video just shows some folks out persuing a hobby.

If people want to spend 50 cents a round (in the case of the .50 cal) to shoot sand cause they get some enjoyment out of it; fine all the more power to them.

These people arent hurting anything or anyone 'cept maybe a few ant farms out in the sand.

They arent advocating automatic weapons for home defense, or hunting, or anything else. They are just out having a good time with something that they like to do.

If we thought anything else, we would think people like lazs (no offense, just using your hobby as an example) are murderous gunslingers.

To each his or her own, as long as no one gets hurt.

I didn't get your post Rude (well in fact I think I understand but well I'm not sure :))

Loser I just reacted (and certainly over reacted as usual, the nice comment by LaserSailor helped ...)

I loved in the past shooting I earned some weapons myself.
I've nothing against shooting but this video to much for me ,there is not achievement in shooting like a mad (except perhaps when cleaning the weapon after...  )

Did anybody see any M14's? They had a pretty good gambit of guns there but I dont recall seeing any M14's.

I'll be shooting at more interesting targets during my bi-annual pilgrimage to West Point, Kentucky. 3 GLORIOUS days of the most outrageous kind of fun money can buy.  For those times when I'm not on the firing line enjoying the show, I'll be entering the assault rifle shoot, old military bolt action shoot, and the open bolt subgun shoot (borrowing a gun for this one). Top off the evenings with rock bands followed by a night shoot then it's off to the campgrounds to enjoy the fire, friends, and bourbon before getting up to do it all again the next day. Simply put, it's the most outrageous, obnoxious, knuckle-dragging all-American experience I've ever had. Be seeing any of you there? :D

Actually they are representative (and ancestors) of the people who twice traveled half way around the world to free your nation and many other nations of German aggression and in at least one war, occupation.  While we don't expect eternal gratitude, I think insulting honest law abiding people who enjoy firearms is a pushing it a little to far.

They are out having fun with firearms they have paid for with hard earned money, they are law abiding and hurting no one as they live their lives.

Not so representative...most are so overweight that they wouldn't be much useful to the army. And I'm really curious to know how many vets are participating to those events.

It should be fun....for an hour. But pointless shooting just to make noise and be able to brag about one's bruised shoulder later should be getting old real quick.

Oh I like to shoot btw...

Why is burning powder and lead a "waste" while burning huge amounts of fuel to get to a mountain and run ski lifts etc is not a waste?  or buying a huge gas guzzling boat to just ride around in or catch fish and throw em back or water ski behind is not a waste?

It's not a waste if you enjoy it.

Lazs, don't jump to such stretched up conclusions...you sound like a woman.

I don't think that anybody said that this is morally wrong, nor that you have to be a bad person to enjoy this. I prefer to see those folks making an awful racket and dig holes in the sand with .50s than blowing up prairie dogs for fun and then put gory vids on the intardnet.

In my case, I only find this mildly fun. I'm certainly not ready to pay a lot of money to be still blowing cordite out of my nose when I sneeze 2 days later.
I rate it just above dressing up and throwing ping-pong balls at another big guy wearing synthetic fur while yelling "lightning bolt! lightning bolt!". But that's just me...

I see a few of you lack the simple decency to understand why I did not care for nilsens comments.

He is judging and insulting people he knows nothing about.  He is slamming some of my countrymen for the simple reason that doing so makes him feel a little better about himself.

I know a few things about these people just from watching the video:

1) They are law abiding people, this can be assured because to own a Class 3 automatic weapon you need federal approval, and criminals don't get that.

2) They are bright enough to go through the process, it isn't anywhere near as easy as going to the local gun store and simply plopping down some cash

3) They are employed in good jobs, as buying and shooting those weapons is not a cheap hobby, so to do so means you have a pretty fair income and can budget your money well.

But, Nilsen feels that he has the right to degrade these people in front of others for his own amusement.  I find that offensive and typical of a number of euroclowns.

I have tried to understand and not judge people who enjoy or participate in hobbies and interests that don't appeal to me, I think nilsen would be a better person if he were to try to do that same.

deselys... don't jump to conclusions... I didn't claim that anyone had said it was "morally wrong"  I simply repeated what they said that it was a "waste".

I find buying all the gear and fishing and throwing back the fish kinda boring and stupid but.... it is not a "waste" if the person enjoys it.   It is not a waste to shoot if you enjoy it.   And.... I think everyone should know how and I think that shooting firearms confirms they are not the toys you see in the movies....

all good things.

What make you think they didn't already wasted huge amount of fuel to get to the range ? (that's just provocative :p)

I say it's waste because when I was shooting the aim was to but all the bullet in the tightest area (and preferably on the target ;))
Not to make earthwork or change the landscape using guns.

Those are hastily drawn conclusions IMO...

1) Ok...or more exactly they've never been caught (I'm not implying that some of them are bank robbers but there are so many ways to break the law...)

2) Ahum...how bright exactly do you have to be? Again I don't mean that they are all morons, but you don't have to be ultra smart to shoot like they do.
Or are there hard exams to get the license for a full-auto weapon? I honestly don't know...

3) That is a really weak point. You should know that you don't have to be bright or honest to earn or own a lot of money...

You're right about not making fun from other people's fun, but in all honesty everybody does it to some extent (don't get me started about fishing and golf ;) ). The point is that you reacted very heavily to a mild sting.

But I think that we all agree on this: those people aren't hurting anyone doing this, so why should they be deprived of their fun?
Title: Sometimes I wish I was American.
Post by: straffo on September 29, 2004, 08:47:09 AM
Perhaps the word I've used to translate is not very pertinent/accurate.

Please note that I'm not refering to the people but their action.

I don't mind if someone is shooting 10 or 1000 bullet ,but full auto is IMO just reserved to supressive fire and so to the military.

They can afford the ammo ... good for them
But firing blank would have been equally noisy and less dangerous.

And think about how many poor helpless earthworms are being slaughtered by this senseless hail of steel and explosives. Not to mention those cute little rodents scurrying for their lives because of the earth exploding around them.

Those people are sick and demented, slaughting those poor defenseless creatures wholesale and getting off on it.

We throw clay birds from a trap which mounts into his trucks tow hitch(very comfortable sittin on the tail gate) and blow them up with 12 gauge shotguns....loud explosions and visual feedback from exploding clay somehow brings about an unexplainable calm....very relaxing.

Good friends, gunpowder, loud explosions, the great outdoors....what could possibly be wrong with any of that?
