It may take all three rounds before some folks realize that Kerry took opposing positions. Still, Bush will take all three. They are doing three, right?

My prediction is that Bush won't say anything each time he answers a question. Ie: "We must stay the course... Me must bring democracy to the region... We are moving ahead..." no details and if asked for details or faced with a challenge he will simply restate the previous statement. This has worked for him for many years. I predict he will appear polished (he can when he puts his mind to it and the format is canned).
Kerry will be boring, non compelling and probably try, at long last, to establish a platform but use too many words. He may try to come off as a hardass to change his bland image.
You can probably look at the press releases for the last month from both campaigns to hear every answer that will be offered.

Sure it's sorta funny to watch, but it also gives you the opportunity to pick the best clown-de-ass from the joust.

Curval are you trying to get us all killed?

Seems to me.... Winners and losers aren't decided during the debate. They're decided afterwards, by the pundits, the spinners, the media, and what sound clips they're gonna be broadcasting tomorrow.
For example, if Bush screws up horrendously, do you think Rush and O'Reilly are going to admit it? No...
The Bush side is way better at this stuff, therefore... Bush wins, is my prediction.

My favorite was when Bush and O'Reilly started joking about how much of a waste higher education is. That's really what ya wanna see coming from yer Prez....
-
If bush is so stooopid and Kerry is so smart and such a good team builder and such a great practioner of leadership and whatever else Nash has been saying then why is Nash predicting that Bush will win based on the strength of his campaign organization and allies. Why cant Kerry build the same sort of team? And if he cant even overcome that challenge in his own political campaign why do you expect him to do well in dealing with and buildfing teams and organizations to solve the much more complicated iraq situation..
Oh yea and as for the "debases" I think both of them are well aware of the possibility of saying something extrememly stupid so thats why they have limited the format so much...

If there is an official score being kept, I'll call it.
But if you're asking what people's opinions are going to be, then my answer stands. Bush supporters will emphatically claim that Bush won the debate, and Kerry supporters will swear to allah that Kerry was the victor.
If we're going to score this though, I think we should use a Poll. I'm not sure what polls will be made public tomorrow, but I imagine that Gallop will have a general "who won the debate poll" and that Bush will come out on top by about 10% Call it 45 Kerry, 55 Bush.

Well... it should. It comes from a liberal.
I predict Kerry will show off his ability to speak 3 languages, and Bush will show that he can almost do one. Kerry will carry the logic overall, but Bush's plain spoken and limited vocabulary will be more popular with the press.
My only wish is that Will Farrell would come back to SNL for another round of debate recaps. Those were the hilight of the 2000 campaign.
-
Kerry's logic is piss poor. This was clearly exhibited on The Daily Show last night where they had a clip of Kerry being interviewed by whoever that ***** was.
Talking about "Based on what we know today, we shouldn't have gone into Iraq. If the outcome is good, it was worth it. If it was bad, it wasn't."
I mean seriously, these two will debate like two kids out of a special ed class.
It's pathetic this is the best our country can come up with.

Now you've shifted from "the public will get confused" to "limited vocabulary will be more popular with the press." Kerryesque indeed.
Kerry's ability to speak three languages just means he can take six sides on any issue. The public is not confused about that.

I seem to have missed it.
-
I think Kerry will improve in the polls after tonight. There's no logical reason to think Bush would. If Kerry improves - I guess that means he won that showing. We'll know by the Friday evening news.
-
I don't see how.
His past actions and statements as a soldier and Senator are in direct contradiction to the sewage that passed his lips tonite.
-
I thought Kerry really shined tonight. Bush gave redirecting answers, nothing I havent heard yet. Kerry is going to really shine on the other debates. And the public polls shows that the public totaly favored Kerry. One pole showed a 30 bush something 70 kerry something split. Bush aint doing so hot and this was the foreign policy debate but Im not suprised. Really.
-
>>His past actions and statements as a soldier and Senator are in direct contradiction to the sewage that passed his lips tonite.
<<
People know that already which accounts for his standing in the polls thust far - not so hot. Bush revealed nothing new, and some could argue he made some statements that could hurt him with the fence sitters - e.g., "won too fast" , "stay on the offensive"
Neither of those statements are going to bring in supporters who weren't already there. If people don't know Bush is a shoot from the hip kinda guy by now, well shame on them. So there was no revelation that would bring people into his fold.
Kerry, on the other hand, was a man without an idea before tonight. It seems a lot of his campaign has been on the fact that he isn't Bush. But tonight he did lay out foreign policy and goals, and was the first to bring up unguarded nuclear material. He also conveyed a sense of urgency in North Korea, and Bush seemed to pass it off. Make no mistake - North Korea has threatened the US with the use of nuclear weapons - and it has them.
Kerry also expressed concern about Iran, and Bush (curiously) seemed diplomacy would be effective in Iran (worked for Carter right?).
Anyway, a lot of Kerry's position on foriegn policy wasn't widely known before tonight, so that was a revelation. Its my guess it will get him more votes than it costs him, and I think the polls will show he benifited more from the debate than Bush. We'll know real soon - about 12 hours.
-
some of you actually think skerry looked good er "shined" last nite???
Bush used his skerries own quotes to beat down the bs skerry was spewing as his latest truth

whoops, I posted this in the wrong thread.
I find it interesting that Kerry thinks we should be mulitlateralist in Iraq and the war on terror (and we are IMHO) and unilateralist in Korea. I read that Kerrys sister is in Austrailia teling them that they should not back Bush in Iraq because it makes them unsafe. So how "exactly" is he (kerry) going to get more countries involved if this is his position?
Kerry won the debate on style. Niether of them said anything we could point to and say hmmm thats news.
I kniw who I am voting for so the debate really was not a page turner for me.

MSNBC latest vote 63% Kerry 27%Bush..That is huge considering, like you said, Bush supporters really dont care if he can do grown- up words or not. he is keeping america safe from another terror strike. And trust me, he knows one is comming. Hmmm, lets see, do we need a terror strike to justify disarming our citizens, or one that justifies disarming the world from Irans oil, errr, nukes.

Damn you Kerry guys were desperate. Reality check here - Kerry won a debate....
Yet even those who say Kerry won the debate STILL feel Bush will be better in Iraq and other security matters. Which was the point of the debate...
So then who really won?
You guys should be happy though because Kerry had to do this well just to save any chance for his campaign. But it doiesnt seem he made much of an inroad on the actual debate issues of Iraq, terrorism etc - which should worry you considering that he "won" the natioanal security debate..

The Daily Show Report from the "Spin Zone" was hilarious....
(From the Bush Side) - "Bush, who some have described as somewhat retarded, did not break down and cry against a man republicans have called 'possibly the smartest man on Earth'. We call that a win!"
-
>>Reality check here - Kerry won a debate....

So then who really won?
<<
ER, Kerry won the debate. Kerry picked up more votes from the debate than Bush did meaning he won - and close to 70% of the people polled think Kerry won, so in answer to your question "who really won?" - Kerry really won.
I guess the question is, is winning the debate enough?
I don't think winning one debate is enough. Should all the debates go like last night, I think the election would be very close.
Should Kerry screw up either of the next two, I doubt he has any real chance.
So Kerry leads 1-0.
Kerry needs to be at 3-0 to have a chance.

I have no doubt that Kerry won the debate last night - that was obvious.
However it is intersting to see that the same people polled who thought Kerry won the debates still think that Bush is better on national security - the substance of last nights debate.
So what did Kerry win? He won the debate but it seems he did not win on the issue.
-
Clearly Bush lost the debate. Question is "Did the debate help Kerry in the coming election?" It's my opinion Kerry was help by these debates. Kerry was able to clearly tell the American people he was not a flip flopper. He was able to show the people how Bush made a mistake in invading Iraq. He showed them he had a plan to get us out of the position of being the sole power driving the Iraq war. The best Bush could do over and over again was repeat Kerry changes his mind on issues. Kerry multi-opinionated on many issues. Bush, one track thinking. I'll take the guy who can flex when needed.

Sorry 40Dog Kerry will do no such thing. The French and Germans have allready said that they will not send troops to iraq no matter who is president here.
They said something like:
"We belive US demands will not change with a Kerry presidency, a kerry presidency will only make it a bit harder for us to say no to such US requests"
-
I give the evening to Kerry....no suprise to Rude.
Bush was too coached for this event....there were moments when the real Bush showed up, however, he was very careful and tried to hard to stick to the debating points.....an uncomfortable presentation at best.
Kerry did the best job since the beginning of his campaign of presenting coherent thoughts.
I suppose the question remains, will last nights effort change the outcome of this election?
The one quality which will commit swing voters is trust.....should be interesting to scan the polls in the upcoming days and weeks.
Thanks for input!

Just a quick question....what exactly do you think Kerry will do to successfully bring onboard French and German troops, or even UN troops in into Iraq?
It's one thing to shoot air and say I'll do this....it's another to get it done. So far, I have not heard how Kerry will be able to accomplish what he states regarding a broadening of the coalition...talk is cheap ya know.
-
Did anyone ever doubt that Kerry is a better speaker? A vote for Kerry is a vote to put the UN in control of the US. He made that pretty clear last night.
-
sick.... kerrie won the debate and probly solidified and heartened his supporters. He might even have picked up a few undecided voters that aren't in California or New york.
I did not like his answers and will be voting for Bush. I have no idea how others will vote.... except the canadians... I know that they will not be voting. I know that more colored people will vote for kerrie as will more women and gays and teachers.
I pretty much believe that, based on this one debate... kerrie will not change the electorial landslide that was Bush.
Best answer I can give you at this point.
