My 3rd line bought one.  He told me he got it more for its uniqueness than for any sort of luxury. He says the fuel mileage is horrible but he expected that.  He also said the width makes it difficult to park in older parts of town where the streets are narrower.  He's thinking of keeping it for another year or two and trading it in for a Land Rover.

Personally, when I look at the H2 the most prominent feature I see is lost opportunity.  They look like they're comfortable inside and all, but I thought it was telling when I saw the head designer saying that all he wanted was for the car to convey the concept of 'big'.  Not useful, not nice, not strong, but just 'big'.  Buying it because it's different is fine, but I'd probably get something like a Suburban (the two are almost mechanically identical) or Yukon before I'd get the H2.

BTW, I'm no raving hippy loon, I considered getting the H2 earlier this year, but considering how crippled it is in comparison to the Humvee (now known as the H1, I guess?), I figured I'd save my money and eventually get one of those instead.

This doesn't answer your question, and I apologize if it's off topic, but...  well, here's a picture that sums up my problem with the H2:

Notice that the opposing truck looks to be in better shape.  The H2 crumpled like tin foil.  My expectation would be that an HMMWV would have weathered that better.  Plus, it's shielded against EMP (and about a thousand other neat features).

I can not get past the looks of the H2, we got a Escalade with more toys then the H2 had for the same price.  And I like the looks of the Caddy way better.

Always thought Hummers look to over the top and pretty ridiculus overall.

f I had that kind of money to choose between fourwheel drives this would be high on my list. Or if it's just going to be a pavement princess then those big black Ram trucks look pretty good on the road.

lol  Skuzzy!!!

H2's are Tahoes. Sowwy to swquash yur lil egos for those of you who have them. Same frame, same Motor, same drive train. Blah blah blah.

Take away the H2 stamps all over the dam thing. The rediculous rubber bumpers, side skirts, fender flares, horrid looking grille and you have a stripped down Tahoe. With a body lift... Yay!

Ultimate Poser ride.

H1 or you may as well buy a Grand Cherokee.

The H2 is not a HMMWV. It's an SUV designed to look like one. sorta

Hmm....maybe I could put one in the trunk of my Buick for use in case I break down.  Looks like it'd almost fit.

My brother has one... way WAY overpriced.

I'd rather have this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2491806084&category=6443)

Yeah, I know, that's why I said I would expect the HMMWV to weather the crash better then the H2 in the picture did.  Significantly better.

That's from a commercial for the Canyonero, the SUV mentioned in the post above mine.  It's from The Simpsons.

Toyota Landcruiser? You have to be kidding me? Those things are a dime a dozen here. I couldn't imagine paying 15k for one even if it was mint with tons of extras. My second car was a Landcruiser softtop with a 350 in it. Great offroad but terrible onroad not to mention the gas milage but a great wagon for going hunting, fishing and pulling range rovers out of small bogs.

Have a modified Jeep Wrangler now and it's 100 times better then the old Cruiser ever was off or onroad.

yeah I got one......was a lot cheaper than the escalade or navigator and more truck than the 2 combined. Besides, i'm not one for "bling". Mine hasn't rattled and I take it off road on a regular basis. Trust me, that plastic interior is good if you go muddin, easy to clean. I only wish it had front lockers but you can get them aftermarket. My average gas mileage city & hwy combined is 12mpg so be aware. Depending on where you live you may catch some flak from the tree huggers, as I live in texas I haven't had that problem. So I guess the big question is would I buy another one? Yes. I can't imagine not owning one. I'd suggest taking the 24hr test drive.

LOL nice pic chairboy.....but what it doesn't show is the other 2 vehicles it plowed through before it hit that dodge ;)  that guy had a seizure while at the wheel. Besides, you WANT it to crumple, thats what saves your life, the cab looks intact to me :aok

Thanks Acid!

I'm not certain the chassis is from a Tahoe either....lit says the chassis is all Hummer.

I have a Suburban now and will keep it....just lookin to pick one up, let the wifey drive it for a bit and then sell it....not a thing wrong with some quick money....if not, I'll just keep it.

The best thing about it is it's not like everything else everyone drives around in....this from a guy who drove Saabs for 10 years:)

as far as the frame is concerned you can break it up into 3 sections, the front 3rd is a modified reinforced version of the 2500-series frame, the middle portion is a box design strictly for the H2, and the rear 3rd is a modified reinforced version of the 1500-series frame

No question... 15K is a too steep.

Still... I'd love to have one... or, I saw a really really nice Defender-90 a few weeks ago... wouldn't mind one of those either.

Oh... and those Rubi's are going for $28K.

umm.. in your picture you have a really old model pickup front-smashing an H2.

That the H2's snout crumpled is a great thing, all modern cars are designed to do that so that the car absorbs the impact not the driver.

toughness of a car imo is not based on if they become accordeons when they get hit, but on how well they take loads, how durable they are and what terrain they can negotiate.

I used to own a Toyota Landcruiser when I worked in the oil business in Indonesia.

Very tough and good to go through mud. But a very uncomfortable ride and noisy. The mileage was pretty bad too but it made up for that with a pretty big gas tank.

I drove mine from middle of Sumatra to Jakarta and back many times and once around the whole of Java. I probably put 100,000 km on it with all my travels and it never broke down although it probably had 200,000 on it when I got it. I don't know because the original odometer was not working.

I had it restored and used it for 2 years before I sold it for more than I had invested it it.

They are tough and good offroad but they handle like crap. They also have one mean massive front bumber that is basically a piece of steel that sticks out 8" from the front of the car. Great for making crazy Indonesian drivers from cutting you off. No one cuts of a Landcrusier and gets away scott free. :)
