-
I thought Kerry was supposed to be orange?
anyway....it's on!
yahooooo.
-
Kerry got a cheap shot in when referring to afganistan......"GWB "OUTSOURCED" the war in afganistan to afgan warlords"
I completly disagree with him here....that was done perfectly and it goes against what he's saying about Iraq.
PS I've never been in an actual "debate" before....but WTF are they writing at their podiums?
-
now the biggest threat to the US according to Kerry is Opium.
dmn those opium addicts

go to checksix chat, much faster than posting.

ouch... not looking good for Bush.
10 mins and already you can feel the record begining to skip.
He's hella on the defensive.

Bush just thumped Kerry on Iraq and Kerry's judgment. LOL

Tone of voice:
Kerry is condemning
Bush is apealing... dare I say whining

30 seconds later he says "invading iraq is like invading mexico after pearl harbor"
OMFG this is awsome!

kerry said vietnam.....kerry said vietnam
" i learned how to fight a war in vietnam" yeah , in 3 months

Kerry so far is doing exceptionally well. You heard it here!
(agreed though he's flip flopping in this debate)

he just said Haliburton, take a drink

Halliburton! DRINK!!

Both of them are reciting "talking points" I'm tired of hearing 90% of casualties and 10 million afgans.
-
50 more minutes to go...
Methinks more of ya are gonna get "tired" of it.
-
Bush just blew the "Osama is recruiting new terrorists" comment by Kerry. He had a good opportunity there.

ROFL the only thing constant about my opponents position, is his inconsistance.
AWESOME

What's with all da blinking.....

yeah.... wish Bush would attack the things Kerry is saying NOW, as opposed to his pre-memorized statements.
Kerry is takin' notes on what Bush is saying and adapting.
-
Too bad it's looking like a scary monster to you wabbit. :)
-
But still..... Kerry has almost as of YET to anwser a question. Talks alot, but no substance.
-
so far I think kerry is trying to put forth his hindsight bashing and icandoitbetteripromise + iwasinvietnam (he repeats this constantly lol) ... and bush is reacting as if kerry was horribly wrong (his voice does come out kinda whiny like..but then again the poor SOB has never been good in speeches hehehe).

ok who remembered the extra keg ??? were gonna need it :rofl

when viewing the Back camera views of the prez, is that Body Armor he's wearing?

Dissapointed here. The pres is sidsteping alot. Kerry isnt doing much better BUT it just goes to show this election is the lesser of two evils

also trying to figure out kerry's "narrow" view of world terrorism. Not sure how/why he thinks OBL is the ONLY (or main) terrorist we need to deal with.
On the one hand, he quotes terrorists in 60 countries right now, but at the same time only wants us to hit OBL. Kinda stupid.

This is the biggest thing I have wrong with kerry. He does have a narrow minded approach to terrorism. OBL is NOT the only terrorist out there. What happens to AQ when they are destroyed....there's another group out there. Well, that's gonna happen and you move onto the next guy.

Score Kerry! Burned Bush on RNK nukes.

Why is Bush blinking so much in his closing statement?

Honestly I cannot pick a clear winner. They both sucked!
-
Couldn't agree more Flit.
I am waiting for Kerry to say "I am gonna make the sea change to freshwater".
He says he can do everything. I loved it when Kerry was asked how he was going to get us out of Iraq. He just babbled and didn't even try to give the details he was asked for. What a nothing.

seriously.....Kerry jumped around through the whole debate....he say's he has a plan but didnt talk about it.
Bush recited talking points repeatativly and stuttered through the whole thing
-
True Gun....
But yah so what.... Kerry slayed dragons...
Bush got schooled.
-
Kerry wins on points. [divination]Tomorrow the media will call it a shilacking and he'll gain a couple of short term points. By next week people will have forgotten about it.[/divination]

I score it 60 / 40 Kerry. Bush fumbled.
-
Like what I said.
Kerry won the debate... come on... clearly.
Tomorrow when this gets regurgitated is a whole nuther ball game.
-
Now for the real fun. Jon Stewart is on live in 20 min.
-
Sweet Jesus, now the second string is babbling how they are gonna "accelerate" Iraqi training in Iraq. How they gonna do that? All this "we are gonna" crap, never one single detail about these miracles they are gonna make happen.
Anyone paying even the slightest bit of attention has to wonder why Kerry thinks he can do any of the crap he says he will, and why he can succeed in ways better than anyone else can. Seems extremely arrogant and naive.
I wouldn't want that fool running the PTA, much less a country.
Talks about how the troops don't have body armor, when he voted against buying it.
Talks about spending money on homeland security instead of Iraq, then says he gonna make them miracles happen in Iraq.
Says Bush not spending any money on homeland security, got quickly slapped down the the actual facts. (really looked stupid there)
Kerry, the next "also-ran".

Not for a few hours... But yeah, you pretty much nailed it.
-
Considering the debate was on foriegn policy this is what I got from it.
My debate assesment:
Bush:
"wrong war at the wrong time" quote was good but said too many times at the wrong time. Good point to make but reiterate (SP) your point by not saying the same thing.
Hammered Kerry for multiple positions wich he's guilty of but didn't make the case completly.
Stammered and stuttered...comon of bush but not usually in depates. Needed to speak a clearly and make his points more conciese
Kerry: (and I am making my best attempt to be unbiased here)
Made a strong point against N. Korea and Iran but failed to follow through and lost it when he wanted the US to take a more direct approach and not follow through with his "global" thinking. Wrong argument.
Actually took a stance on Iraq but failed to "clerify" his position on iraq. He's got points for winning the war but did not make them
Went after Bush for failure to act "global" in alot of issues but got hammered when Bush made the point that "global" policy shouldnt determin US national security.
Overall I think Bush played it safe and Kerry went all out and fell short. Kerry left himself wide open to Bush but he went right back to "talking points" wich don't do it for me or other swing voters.
Kerry OTOH spout like a shotgun. He was all over the place hammering Bush on Iraq policy of poor planning and Afganistan for using warlords (wich I think is the wrong message) then moving on to sudan for lack of intervention (Ummm last I checked the UN is dealing with this wich is what he wanted) and then to Iran and N. korea. Not a clear point made on the issue
either way I can't say anyone spanked the other...was a decent debate. Bush was given the opertunity to win and missed it......Kerry was given the opertunity to define himself and missed.
-
Both candidates had problems delivering..
Bush lost by being on defense
Kerry lost by flopping on issues
I wasn't impressed by either candidate....
I give it a 50/50
But of course everyones horse won the race...
IKON
-
Oh man....
Kerry won this, huge...
If you're not convinced yet, we get another two of these before it should become crystal clear.
Something tells me Geedub is backed up on his heels after tonight, and Kerry is ready for the kill shot.
-
Sorry Nash ,, but i saw no big score outta Kerry .
and I didnt see anything impressive from Bush either .

It doesn't escape me that if Bush gave even a hint, the slightest suspicion of even staying in the game tonight, the Bush supporters here would be going crazy.
What does it mean when the rabid Bush supporters here can't bring themselves to even make jokes about it?

Kerry killed the guy.

Well, I think its sure, Bush did not win. It may be a draw, but no one with two brain cells could claim a Bush win.
I am completely flabbeghasted at Bush's line "We won too fast."
That is just so ridiculous or oh so many levels. You can debate forever whether its enough to give Kerry the win - I dunno and I don't care. But it was a extraordinarily stupid statement.

You can't kill them until they are shooting at you.
Our forces blew through Iraq so fast that the guys that are causing problems now were still in bed asleep.
It is one of the problems of fighting guerilla style war. The enemy usually gets to fire first.
The Iraqis need to understand that in order to keep their new won freedoms is to help us identify these guys so we can waste them before they set up the ambushes.
-

Wow! That was easy! Lemme try again.... Ditto!

I think Nash is starting to believe if you say something over and over it becomes the truth.
Sorry to wave a little reality in your face, but it doesn't work that way.
You saw the debate the way you wanted it to be, you see the winner as the way you wanted it to be.
Didn't work out that way though. Neither scored a big hit, neither fumbled big. More or less a draw, and a draw is not something Kerry can afford because he is losing in the polls. Anything less than a big victory in the debates is a loss for Kerry, and virtually everyone, including all the talking heads on tv say it was basically a draw.
And in this game, a draw goes to the poll leader, Bush.

>>The Iraqis need to understand that in order to keep their new won freedoms is to help us identify these guys so we can waste them before they set up the ambushes.<<
Do you know how complex that task will be? As much as the Iraqis may like democracy, the despise the West more. Hence the ridiculous statement "we won too fast." We haven't won anything and won't for the forseeable future. We will keep it under control like a prison and have just as much chance of leaving as prison guards leaving a prison thats formed of grievance committee. Oh, but add another little worm to the pot- IRAN. Salivatating over the weakened Iraq natural resources.
So we just have to make the Iraqi culture embrace the the West, train their military enough to defend themselves from the nuclear seeking Iranians, and then everything will be honky dorry- we can go home. If you think thats going to happen in your lifetime, you are mistaken. There's a reason Bush Sr. didn't go to Baghdad - THIS. Pandora's box - and we own it.

Bush didn't mess up, Kerry spoke well and spun his BS.
I cringed more than a few times as Kerry flat out lied or took crazy positions opposite of his actions during his entire carreer.
I don't see what Kerry really accomplished to be honest.
Kerry made statements and points that are easily shown to be complete BS.
Kerry said "help is on the way" for Americans in Iraq, yet voted not to give them 87 billion in help.
He said, knowing what he knows now he would not have gone into Iraq, yet he said himself just weeks ago, when asked directly if he would have gone into Iraq knowing what he knows now.....said he would have.
He claims to be consistant on Iraq????? Everyone knows that's a joke.
Kerry simply spoke well and thats all. Almost everthing he said was a joke or a lie.
Bush did not have his best night , that's for sure but he didn't lose even despite that.
-
Well after saying all that Nuke...
And in looking at what Bush needed to accomplish and what Kerry needed to accomplish - didn't Kerry win?
We're not talking about issues... we're talking about this debate.
Did the needle move?
I think it did.

Oddly, that was the first thing I said.
I missed the debate, just got home from work. Just thought I'd poke you with a stick a little.
-
The substance of most of Kerry's points will be used to again point out how rediculess he has been on almost every question he responded to.
Kerry did speak better and was more composed than Bush was, but that's it.
After the next few days of discussing this debate all over the media in the US, Kerry will probably have gained zero.
Nash, do you even know a lot about Kerry or were you just impressed by the way he packaged himself?
For me, I saw a person doing his best to lie about his stances on just about everything.
-
>>Bush did not have his best night , that's for sure but he didn't lose even despite that.<<
I could live with that statement. I think it will be hard for Bush spin doctors to claim a win in that debate (without looking totaly absurd), and less hard for Kerry spin doctors to claim a win. It was close, but I'd give it to Kerry. I mean there was one time Bush objected and got a 30 seconds of time and had nothing to say so had to fall back on the "mixed messages" mantra.
Kerry did some dumb things too (like hinting he would stop permanent bases in Iraq), but there are more than enough Bush people to point those out.
What suprised me is before tonight , I thought Kerry was a sinking ship. He didn't come across as a sinking ship - he did very well.
-
Nuke you don't understand - just ask Grun.
Me and Kerry have a mind-meld thing going...
He's not only my soul-mate, he has great team building potential.

Yeah but Bush sucked so might as well goof on me... :)

Well the litmus test will arrive before the evening news shows Friday. I'd feel safe Kerry will gain a few points in the polls and Bush will stay the same or lose a couple. My point- Kerry by a head (thats horse racing lingo :D)
-
How many times did bush say, "It's hard work"?
-
I took the "hard work" thing as a time staller to gather thoughts - nothing wrong with that. Kerry used his past service in the same manner. I mean everyone needs time to gather thoughts or properly form the message.
But I counted 4 times :D
-
Found a transcript (http://pennlive.com/newsflash/politics/background/index.ssf?0930_debate.html) .
Eleven.
-
Ooops - I had to grab a beer a couple of times! :D
-
Bush has been saying "hard work" for years. Like he's trying to convince us, or himself, that being president is in fact very hard work.
What - he wants us to cry about it?
Suck it up, geedub.
Same goes with "I am the commander in chief" or "I am the president"... "I make hard choices".....
It's like he doesn't believe it himself, and if only we would believe it, then he could begin to also.
Goof....
-
Geez Nash, take a Valium and go to bed.
dago
-
GWB did what he had to do....
Kerry didn't...
-
I think he was trying to illustrate that there is a big difference between words and actions.
Being President is all about making hard choices and big decisions.
Kerry couldn't make a big decision or a hard choice if his two faced life depended on it.
-
lol Dago - you hate it, don't you.
If it's any consolation, I... uhm.... ... feel your pain.
:D
-
I am A bush fan, the first debate has ended, I would say "IF" I was "on the fence" I would lean towards Kerry. I think kerry ( although flipping, flopping and avoiding the questions) just nudged Bush out. Bush had some( very little ) but some substance to answering ( in the way mostly all polititions answer questions) some questions. Bush did repeat himself to often and did come across defensively, and sorta uncertain of himself. You could tell when he would FIRMLY deliver a line it was completely from a memorized script. Kerry came across Acting more intellegent ( if you could possibly project that word to either candidate). Bush positively came thru more at the end, but like I said (scripted). I noticed the body armor also on the back shots. The debate really did come off as two third graders in the school yard. One playing dodgeball, the other a whining clown.
In a nutshell, was nothing new. Kerry could score a few fence sitters, he's a better speaker of the two. Shot himself in the foot with the body armor remarks. Other than that, same ol' same ol'. I did walk away wishing Bush could be a little more like his old man.
Moderator did a good job, when GWB, used alittle more time or replied when he wasn't supposed to Kerry was given equal time to rebutt, thus giving GWB the respect that the president deserves while giving the opposition an even fighting ground and respect. Well done to the moderator, wish more talking was ANSWERS to the QUESTIONS.
if it was boxing 10 point MUST score.... Kerry 10 Bush 9.
If it was the olympics
Sticking to answering the questions. Both really sucked , Kerry's 20 years in the senate, at least he really learned how to side step q's
kerry:1.2
Bush:3.9
presentation:
Kerry 8.9
Bush 8.7
not letting them see you sweat:
Kerry: 7.8
Bush: 6.2
body armor:
Kerry 9.9 ( well fitting, hardly noticable)
Bush 7.9 (his squared off in the center of his back)
Syncronized sentences ( repeatative answers )
Kerry:6.9
Bush a perfect 10
My Final take, no movement, still a Bush Voter. Can't wait till the next debate. But Kerry eeked out a marginal victory this round.

Anyone here like the catchy thread title?
Not often I start a 4 page thread.

I did...
"It's on like chicken" made no sense to me.... Hence its allure.
Yup, one of the better ones, no doubt.
