"The war was won too fast."
You have to think about this line for a long a time, before its full impact is felt.
"The [Bathist] were raising their hands and disappearing."
If I'm not mistaken, thats called escaping.
And these escaping Bathists are killing our soldiers every day because we "won too fast."
I dunno, that line was a jaw dropper for me. I will be suprised if that line is not disected all over the media tomorrow. It could have been just a slip of the tongue or might have been a flash of complete naivity in the apreciation of the dismal prognosis of ever leaving Iraq.
Kerry also made a mistake in say he would halt the building of permanent bases in Iraq. We surely can't do that, because we surely can never leave Iraq. Its our 21'st century Korea. George W. gave us that present.
And anyone who doubts that the occupation of Iraq is permanent - just look east over the border to Iran. WE CAN NEVER LEAVE.
-
We hoped to put entire units of the Iraqi army back in the field, working for the Iraqi government. They disbanded instead of surrendering. That is what he meant; read Tommy Franks book.

I think its pretty obvious the HAVEN'T disbanded or perhaps you aren't reading the paper?

I think it is pretty obvious that you are ONLY reading the paper (and the Times-pickinanny ain't much of a paper)..

no the ARMY disbanded. What's fighting us now is 90% foreigners and 10% former bathists.
I thin bush just mispoke here and did not reiderate his point clearly.
Invading a country and taking the capital in the time that it took us to do is unheard of before. We did expect whole army's to surrender but they didnt', they did it peicmeal. A friend of mine told me the plan was to take surrendering armys....supply them and turn them around. Totally agreed that's an oversight.
Seriously thought the after plan here being criticised is rediculus....if we did not secure the oil fields and they were set on fire the environmental and economic disaster that would have resulted would now be the Dem's talking points againsts "winning the war"

Anyone who paid any attention to the coverage during the invasion and battles saw that the overwhelming majority of soldiers tossed their weapons, changed into civilian clothes and walked home.
What would you have us do? Shoot all the men in civilian clothes because they may have been escaping Bathists? Put everyone you could find in barbed wire enclosures forever?
Give me a firm answer on how you would have prevented those "escapes" Tweetybird!

LK means the Iraqi army disbanded.
Right now the new Iraqi army and police forces are coming up in strength and are working with our troops to keep themselves free.
As for Iraq being the next South Korea with our troops garrisoned there. I'd rather have troops facing Iran and Syria right acoss their border just like in Korea and Germany was rather than let them build up and squash Iraq.
We didn't keep the Warsaw Pact nations at bay by watching them from Iowa.

Nawlins boy - I forgot :D I agree - I don't read the "Times-pickinanny " - its pretty biased. But I have global papers at my disposal on the internet :D

Capture them, and perhaps use a new idea like POW camps.
Oh better yet, expect a culture that has history of condeming the excesses of the West to throw flowers at us.

Capture them??? Capture who? All the men in Iraq? Perhaps you missed what I said, missed what all the television reports showed, almost all took off their uniforms and walked away. How would you have known who to capture???? You can't exactly grab every man in Iraq and put him in a POW camp.
BTW, anyone who could be identified and captured was, another thing shown on the reports was a pretty large number of prisoners taken.
Now, how long would you have kept them? Major combat ended, the Hussein regime was eliminated. How long would you keep them?

In GW1, we captured whole battalions, en masse, with weapons and officer corp in place. They made the (entirely rational) assumption that the same thing would happen, and after the main battles were won, the plan was to put those organised troops in place for security.
Plans fail, and this one did, ah well.

Freedom is a God given right and I think you're going to find that these people that you say condemn our way of life will warm up to it just like everyone else who is free today did when their chance came.
They may not be throwing flowers at us right now but someday they will understand the gift that has come to them and will hopefully stand with us to help others throw off the scourge of tyranny.

Listen - seriously, when George W. sat in front of that banner stating "Mission accomplished" he could pass the buck off on some enlisted people. When questioned about the how the banner could be considered premature, he simply blamed it on someone on the boat. Sure he got the photo op, but he didn't hang that banner!
But tonight - he- no one else- GEORGE W. - said "we won too fast." He cant blame some guy on a carrier for that stupid statement, thats for sure. And its pretty obvious Iraq is FAR from won. And that is not a put down on the people fighting - but something that must be realized for appropriate action. I'm sure you wouldn't want the fire depatment leaving your still flaming house telling you "its out."
-
He should have went straight into --> Iran instead of Iraq if he wanted to hurt them (the middle east).
-
Just look at the world. The potential nuclear proliferators are still active and able. Iraq may have been taken out but Iraq has no wmd or nuclear material that they could sell to a terrorist. The real nuclear axis of evil are still unscathed. The fighting hasnt even begun if they are a real threat. Meaning if they would really sell a nuke to an underground terrorist organization.

Are you telling me we were unprepared for a guerilla war? We were going to deal with weapons of mass destruction, but couldn't deal with a change of clothes? Do you see even a *little* problem in the planning here?
What in the heck did they expect - Red Coats at 50 paces????
But wait - I am not here to use 20/20 hindsight. I'm here to say its completely idiotic to say we've "won" when its obvious we're only beginning to understand the true extent of the enemy we're facing.
