Title: What is your talent?
Post by: NUKE on October 02, 2004, 12:52:01 AM
I'm not talking about what you do professionally. What do you feel you naturally excel at?

Me? I feel I can make some okay models,  make some music and argue a little  :)

Disparate data analysis, laying concrete pavers and drinking beer.

It's music for me...

I'm pretty dumb, generally... but I happen to think I am like, brilliant at music. If thars any injustice in this world, it's that I couldn't turn music into 9-5.

Har...

Okay....

1st year college, this great sculpture professor assigns us a project. Due next week.

"Come into class and exhibit something you are good at."

It was weird... kinda like the Miss America pageant. Some chick literally brought in a typewriter and typed, I dunno, 60 words a minute.

This asian kid started skipping rope....

Then it came to this weird dude in our class... He was real silent, but I always thought he was cool.

He reached into his jacket and pulled out an egg.

It was one of those goofy looking jeweled-up type eggs like you'd imagine James Bond hunting down.

The prof's face went white; "Where did you get that?!"

The kid just smiled.

The Prof went whiter....

Turns out.... The kid broke into the prof's home while he and his wife were sleeping, and stole the thing off their dresser.

What was his talent?

"I'm a thief."

Intellectually, mathematics and all forms of scientific theory seem to just flow for some reason.

Real world stuff? I've built two acoustic guitars from scratch, almost entirely with hand tools with no real finite cabinetry experience. I love it and hope I can get to a point where I can afford to do it as a hobby.

Apart from the usual sexual claims, that's what I feel the most strongly about. Unfortunatly I seem to be fairly good at anything I try to do. The only thing I've found that I'm just piss poor at is posting on this BBS:eek:

Felt bad after saying that for some reason. I'm not trying to boast or brag or toot my own horn, it just seems to work out that way for some reason. The only thing I've ever done that I wasn't the best at of the people that were there is sales. That's where I'm at now because of that. Competition is a good thing.

I need to integrate a breathalizer into my keyboard. It would save me a whole lot of embarrasment and effort. Hell, I might can get a patent on it;)

I'm a good artist, But I don't draw enough. I used to carry a  sketch book around with me where ever I went, Now it sits in the closet with all my other sketchbooks.

I'm a good cook, I do that more than I draw, thats for sure.

improvising, inventing, and scrounging- I can find a way to get almost anything working with the materials at hand.

dealing with kids that are generally considered undisciplined or 'bad kids' by other people.

I've also always had a gift with handling and training animals.

By talent you mean not professional, ok.  My most recent talent is imitating a couch potato.

I can, and have, done lots of things well, but not as good as that.

I don't have one thing I excel at, but I do learn things fast.  I guess that's my talent, learning.

I'm not a bad shot either.  Grew up on a farm and got to hunt every day during the season and shot targets/skeet more than not off-season.:aok

I am really good at ordering drive thru at McDonalds. I can order twice as fast as most people.

For instance when I am ordering a Big Extra combo I order it like this

"One Big Extra Combo, no cheese, diet coke, not super sized"

By telling them no cheese what type of drink I want and preempting the super sized question I save exactly 8 seconds off my ordering time.

Amazing I know. Some of us are just naturally blessed at some things.

Not to mention the fact that the combo already has fries.  You preempted the "Would you like fries with that?" also.

I you.

Nevertheless, somehow, I am a natural at efficiently operating any machines ranging from cars, planes, boats, guns, buldozers to sawing machine.

Thanks. I can see you are one of the elite as well.

Today I had to wait 4 minutes for the lady in front of me to order some stupid salad and a couple of kids meals. She kept asking the kids in the back what they wanted everytime the person taking the order asked her something. I felt like getting out of my truck and shooting her.
