Had a nightmareish conversation with my supervisor last night during dinner break. I have know for a long time that she was a die hard liberal and couldn't wait to engage her in conversation, and got the chance last night. She started by bring up the debate and how Bush just looked like a spoiled little brat up there and how great what's his name did. She then started going off about how Bush is making the UN mad and alienating us from this great group of peace loving countries, that did it. I told her that as far as I am concerned the UN can stick it and get the heck out of MY country. She was in total shock. Her words went something like this: I can't believe you don't want the un to help us. They are the saving gract this country needs and I really truly hope that someday in the near future there is no more US goverment, and every thing is run by the UN. I didn't know what to say, I must have had the strangest look on my face because my wife was laughing her bellybutton off. Then she goes on to say that we are the biggeset poluters, and the biggest wasters in the world and she can totaly see why osoma bin laden hates us and why he attacked us. She than says that we should be spending all our resourses not on the war on terror but on helping all the poor people not just in this country but all countries, by giving them money and food and shelter and an education. (sorry grammer is poor because I am still shook up about it). I asked her about taxes and what she considered rich, because she had mentioned all the tax cuts the rich were getting. She said about $200,000 a year was filthy rich. I asked her about a flat tax and why should we prnalize people for being successful, working hard and getting an education. She said that people don't need that much money and they should share with those that don't have that much.
I asked her how long she had been in medicine and she said about 30 years. So I asked her if in that 30 years if she ever thought about the why the scumbags we see in emergency medicine never went and got an education and did something with there lives, her answer was basicaly: Why should they have to, it is our responsiblity to take care of the less fortunate.....
Still so mad I cant see straight.

HAHAHA You thought you got away from communists when you left the K.S.S.R. :)
A walking example of the perils of womens' suffrage.
-
and that my friends is one of the big reasons to end womens suffrage. If a lot of U.S. government can help us a lot..... imagine how a monstrously huge big brother watching over every country could help us!

And lazs, I'll concede that some people do take advatange of the welfare system. Its unfortunate but its a reality.

Almost reminds me of the conversation I had with an old friend of mine. there were two points I had to laugh right in her face about
1 was she said she thought we should just open up our borders and just let the Mexicans come and go at will.
when I asked her herreasoning behind this she was dead serious when she said
"Cause they were here first"
another was on the subject on all these programs we have to immigrants to help them out.
I said I thought we give out too much to them.
She didnt and thought that we should be giving them even more.
Again she was dead serious with her reasoning.
"I think they should have the same opportunities my ancestors had when they came here"
And THIS is from someone with a masters in education.
Good thing she decided to work with children with Down syndrom.

On a personal level I have no problem with this. If it becomes a problem then I look elwsewhere.

Didn't Einstein say, "genius has its limits, but ignorance knows no bounds"?
While I can find no reference to it in scripture, I'm convinced the devil wears pantyhose.

$200,000 a year is harly filthy rich. My family total income is not quite double that figure. Growing up I had clothes, shoes and a car when I turned 16. I didn't say I had the nicest clothes, the newest shoes or the best car.
When I turned 16, I used the car to get to the job I'd had for a while (Golf Cart Cleanliness and Quality Control Director) that my mom had graciously driven me to almost every day that summer.
Now, speaking from experience (one of the mouths they had to feed) in living in this type of family I can certainly say we were not filthy rich. We have a nice house with a 5 acre yard (Purchased in 1989, a converted farm field in a just-starting-to-develop town) that I had to help plant the grass in. This house/land was bought for less than the cost of a smaller house with a much smaller yard in a subdivision. A drawback is no pizza places deliver, but on the up side there was plenty of room to do whatever we pleased.
I could go on and on...but won't about that. I'd worked for guys that had 'more money than god' and could do what they wished when they wished. Have you ever impulse-bought a $300,000 airplane sight unseen? Bought a smurfy warbird, hired a mechanic full time to restore it for you in your hangar/garage attached to your house and demand in 6 months you have an Oshkosh/Sun 'n Fun award winner? These are those kinds of guys. Living in 8-12 million dollar homes, driving H2s and owning $800,000 motor homes. Wanna go boating? Head out to my 80 foot yacht. Skiing? "Sure, my mountaintop chalet in the swiss alps is great for that." they might say.
Could I have a lot of fun on a mere 1-2 million a year? You bet! If I had a bank account holding $30 million could I have all those things...sure! Would I? Maybe. While I'll take it as a compliment for my family and the way I grew up to have us associate with 'those' people in her mind. She's greatly misguided. She's grossly ignorant. And she's an even dumber ***** for the things she said about the U.N.
-
Yeah, $200K a year is just barely making ends meet.
-
What about the rest of what she reportedly said?

Sounds like the standard left-wing-greenie drivel that has no clue about economics and thinks money grows on trees.
How long the great Communist experiment failed? They forget so quickly ;)

Hmmm let's check the boxes:
She said:
The US is the biggest polluter: check (dependant on stats)
The US should be spending its money on educating people and eradicating poverty: check (to a degree)
It is the responsibility of the fortunate to take care of the less fortunate: check. (to a degree)
Medicboy had a conversation with someone who is in the profession of looking after people who are hurt.
I can completely understand why she feels the way she does.
The real sadness about this, is the black and white view which so many here seem to hold that left wing is poison and right wing is good. The world is a more complicated place.
This has nothing to do with communism - it has to do with being kind to your fellow man and building a better society. Oh...and the collective survival of the planet.

Ah, but if I work hard for it and earn it, its MINE. If I choose to give it to someone or some cause that interests me then I am a good person, or not. If the government decides to TAKE it from me and fritter it away on crap and bureaucracy then its PLUNDER.
Try reading "The Law" by Fredreick Bastiate(spelling?)

You're mad because she had an opinion different from yours.
Getting mad over someone else's opinion is called intolerance.
Intolerance is linked to closet homosexuality.
Explains why the vocal conservatives and liberals are so intolerant.

Fine fine fine. All that stuff is great but here's what happens in reality.
We send billions of dollars to Africa every year to help with aids and starvation.
What really happens is the local warlords seize what ever aid that is given to the people by the UN or peace corps or whoever and uses it to enslave the local populice
Spending money to educate people??????? are you mad. Do you know how many billions of dollars are just flushed down the drain on education.....do you know why...GOVERNMENT...the most inefficiant user of our tax dollars. What would cost a private company $5 costs the us govt $30 in almost every case.
and as far as polution goes.....we are one of the few industrialized countrys in the world that has an EPA to protect us from the big bad evil corporate pollutere......go to China or inda near some of thier factories or ship yards and it makes an environmental disaster in the US look like a small oil change spill.
the scariest thing I got from her is the UN running everything. Take the beaurocuracy (SP) and multiply it by a facter of 100 and you have my friends the United Nations.
Yes one more level of govt telling us how to think and live our lives....
one more body that can [sarcasm] take swift action to end the suffering of people under opression[/sarcasm]
one more entity to take our hard earned living and give it somone less hard working.
This woman is the human race darwinism in action. I could say what I really feel about why a one world govt scares the hell out of me but I'd just sound like a kook

This is priceless.
First of all, Medicboy, I've got to say, god bless your supervisor. God bless her opinions and her emotional resolve to state said opinions. God bless the country that has produced the sort of people that can think in this manner. God bless the nation that has done so well for itself in the course of its short life, that it can boast citizens that are have been so heavily cushioned in their lives that they can actually maintain such convictions into their middle-age years. God bless the nation where somebody can actually exhibit an elevated pulse at the mere mention of living for oneself, rather than for the greater good. We are certainly living in a rich, fertile land when there people among us who are so ready to give up their own liberties and luxuries for the sake of the indigent.
But more than anything, god bless those who still live in reality.
First of all, $200k a year is great, but it's not filthy rich. It's making ends meet, and then some, but it's generally the result of innovation and hard work. Those who have the brains and dedication to earn it deserve to keep as much as possible, and if whatever they're forced to give up should go to causes greater in value than the sustainance of people who've voluntarily chosen to waste themselves away. This has nothing to do with creating and maintaining a better society--correction, perhaps it may, because it is not the responsibility of the ambitious and hardworking to maintain a population of conscientious incompetants. A better society is one where everyone does as much as they can, where laziness or substance abuse is not rewarded, and where merit decides who leads and who prospers. Taking care of the unfortunate, given that they were placed in such a situation by forces outside of their control, is definitely a cause we should all strive to achieve. Everyone else, for the betterment of society, should be left to their own devices to either die or survive.
yes, gentlemen, you heard it clearly. You either do as much as you can, given your abilities, or you suffer the consequences. Doesn't sound quite so draconian in those terms, now does it?
And for those who are filthy rich, for those making $20m a year or more--kudos. You are the people that bring about change. Some of you are crooks, without a doubt, but a tiny minority for which the overwhelming majority should not need to pay. You are the inventors, the geniuses, the indispensible men and women who forward our society with your work, with your visions. The compensation you receive for your achievements is well deserved, and will find no better place than in your hands, even if it is for the seemingly inane cause of building a 3rd beachhouse, or buying a 5th Ferrari.
Those of you who retain a bleeding heart, please, be my guest, give up your wealth for the sake of... whoever. Take Bill Gates or Andrew Carnegie as examples. The men contributed vast fortunes to charity. Just make sure of one thing, that the money you earmark for the 'greater good' is your own. Earn it, amass it and give it away until you're blue in the face, but don't you ever think that you're entitled to tell me what I do with the fruits of my hard work. I owe monetary support to the needs of my family and myself, to the desires of my family and myself, and then and only then to the greater good, in that order--which does not include the healthy 20-something male I saw lounging on the streetcorner on my way to work last week. That's right. My beachhouse, my sportscar, my swimming pool and my round the world cruise(all ofwhich I have yet to experience) are infinitely more important than another handout to an able-bodied guy who depends on that handout to lay around and drink all day.
If we lived by the rules of Medicboy's supervisor, we'd all be enjoying a mortal paradise in the blissfull land of no work, abundant indulgence and endless sustainance at the cost of some higher power. A great fairytale.
But that's just my opinion.

It takes balls for that nurse (did I just say that?) to have an outlook on life such as she does.
I kinda envy that chick. It's where I wanna be in another 20-30 years when I get to be her age. I don't think I'm gonna reach the same level she's attained.
Nevertheless, it's easy work tearing her outlook apart.
Neubob did it with style.

Nash......its scarry the way your brain thinks sometimes.....not scarry as in "night of the living dead scarry" but more like "pinkey and the brain" scary.
I can't find it in my heart of hearts why anyone would want a thaught procsess like that nurse had. Not that I would denegrate her for thinking that way. I just think of it as fantisy land....really. Medic did say she had been in nursing for 30 years so that probably makes her 48+ or so.
Who knows maybe its the being around sick/hurt people for so long that's made her that way?
to me at her age.....its just a very Nieve (sp) way to think.
EDIT: does thinking that achieveing a comunal utopia on a global scale is the equibilint to......damn i'm fresh out of metaphors tonite....lets just say does me thinking this will never happen make me a bad person?

Up to a certain level being filthy rich is based on where you are located. I mean if someone has millions then it doesnt matter but when your only dealing with a few hundred thousand a year then geographical location makes a big impact. I mean 200k a year if you live in bev. hills is like middle class since that will barely buy a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk. Buf if your making 200k a year and living in the back woods of alabama then your filthy rich.
Oh and golfer what exactly are the job requirements of a "golf cart cleanliness and quality control director"

Naivete doesn't make her wrong.
Neither does it make her wrong that her ideas fly in the face of real politik.
In an ideal world, her ideas make complete sense.
It's nice to hear, from time to time, that people think in terms of ideal. It means she's lasted a good 30 years without having the ideal beaten out of her.
That's no small feat. I do envy her.

LOL!!!! I am nothing of the sort. I'm a broke college kid 2 semesters from graduating with a degree in Aviation Management. I've taken my father's hard work (mother is a teacher, she gets paid nowhere near what she deserves) and used it to get a *free* (foresight by him in investments for me...thanks pops!) education to do what I please with my life. I mentioned before I had "Things" but if i wanted "Nice Things" it was my cash putting the "nice" there. For example I had a fine set of golf clubs I spent my hard earned money on while washing golf carts (I was overly glorious to myself earlier, I squirted golf carts with a garden hose for 6 bucks an hour). Moved up to "Tee Manager" which was the real title for the actual job of starter at another golf course. Worked as a Temp for Nationwide Insurance which led to a Claims Adjuster job and also worked part time for 3 years at the airport which allowed me to fly.
Some of the best things my parents ever did to me was say "No." Crazy as it is to hear those words come out of my mouth, they always said "no" when I asked for the nice things but I always had what I needed. Thats a big incentive to work hard to get what you want in life. Here I am...paid out of pocket for all my flying ratings (Commercial Single, Multi-Engine and Instrument) and now work as a Dispatcher in a corporate flight department. Finishing college, good work ethic and a "few" nice things. I still have that same junker of a car and maybe two or three shirts of mine say Abercrombie and Fitch, but I am doing alright.
I just hope I can do the same for my children. I want them to be able to follow their dreams and do with their life as they please. They're still gonna get smacked when they screw up, they won't have a TV or playstation in their bedroom so when they get grounded it means something. But they'll also be able to make mistakes, go get hurt doing stupid things and have fun. They won't be taking prozac (did you know 11 million kids in this country are on that potato peeling drug?) and they'll learn its bad to touch a hot burner, run on slippery concrete and that if you don't want beaned in the head you will keep your eye on the ball.
Well thats it for my brady bunch life for now...but I mean c'mon...why the f*ck would you want to vote for john kerry?
Thats not directed at you eagler, its a rhetorical question to all the silly ninny nannys wearing skirts who don't understand that the kerry plan won't ever amount to action other than using one of every color highlighter to keep telling himself everythings ok, and if we give in to the bad guys of the world we can be their friend instead of making them reevaluate their decisions to attack us through the use of overwhelming force

Your supervisor just started up on you with all that 'eh Medicboy?
People set in their ways may become very defensive, and it's likely it's not personal. That happening in the workplace ain't good.
If you can't avoid this person, be respectful. You can acknowledge her without agreeing by saying "yeah, you're right" and moving on. ("Yeah, you're right in the sense of I heard you, but don't agree with you.) If it gets to that point.

While your supervisor has the right to her opinion, i'd suggest she go to her local college and take some international relations and world history classes.
she has absolutely no clue what the UN is or does or has done.
Also, tell her im less fortunate, give her my email and have her send me a check for 1000 bucks every month please.

Funked, please don't jump on lazs' "end women's sufferage" bandwagon. It could just as easily been a man spewing that nonesense Medicboy wrote about.
Basically ending women's suffrage is saying "I don't like women's opinions therefore they should be.....banned from voting, again".
I thought lazs was against banning things? Or is that just guns?

Neubob, You have class that is for sure. I have had a few days to calm down now and think about what happened. I know My sup. isn't the only person in the USA that thinks that way but what threw me for a loop is she did this on our lunch break.
Don't get me wrong, I like her and respect her because she has been in medicine for 30+ years, but damn! Anyway, I have to say I feel like an idiot for letting her views get to me, there is just no way in He11 I am going to let the UN have anything to do with running my life.
After only a meer 12 years in EMS I am of the oponion that darwin was right and we (the modern medical system) screwed it up. We are saving people that were never supposed to live. I say sink or swim, most people will decide to swim, only a few will sink. But give everyone a life raft and only a few will row to safety and the rest will just enjoy the ride.....;)
