Cheney said:
"Now, in my capacity as vice president, I am the president of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session. The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight."
The truth:On Feb. 1, 2001, the vice president thanked Edwards by name at a Senate prayer breakfast and sat beside him during the event.
On April 8, 2001, Cheney and Edwards shook hands when they met off-camera during a taping of NBC's "Meet the Press," moderator Tim Russert said Wednesday on "Today."
On Jan. 8, 2003, the two met when the first-term North Carolina senator accompanied Elizabeth Dole to her swearing-in by Cheney as a North Carolina senator.
The Bush administration will not let stone cold fact get in their way of misleading the American public.

The irony, the hypocricy..... delicious.

A politician lied, OH MY GOD! What in the hell has this world come to?!
-
Somehow I dont think its going to effect much and even with that the fact remains that Edawrds (Senator Gone) has one of the worst attendance records in the senate which was the point he was making

Edwards has an 84+% voting record over six years, casting votes 100% of the time in two of those years.
Don't drink the Kool-Aid, Kool-Aid goggles make you look stupid, beer goggles make you forget that you are in fact stupid.
edit to add breakdown...
1999 Cast 371 out of 374 votes for a 99.2% voting record
2000 Cast 298 out of 298 votes for a 100% voting record
2001 Cast 377 out of 380 votes for a 99.2% voting record
2002 Cast 253 out of 253 votes for a 100% voting record
2003 Cast 281 out of 459 votes for a 61.2% voting record
2004 Cast 84 out of 198 votes for a 42.4% voting record

However, a Deseret Morning News review of committee records shows that Edwards' attendance was low even before he began his unsuccessful bid to become the Democrats' nominee for president or became Kerry's vice presidential candidate; his attendance has just gotten worse.
For example, during the 107th Congress in 2001 and 2002 — before Edwards began his presidential campaign — he attended 10 of the 30 business meetings (for debate and votes) that were held after he joined the committee in July 2001. His 33 percent average attendance was half the 70 percent average for all committee members.
That meant Edwards had the second-worst attendance for that pre-campaign period, behind Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., who attended one less meeting. Edwards was also tied with the late Sen. Strom Thurmond, D-S.C., who was then 99 years old and in failing health.
When hearings are added into the total along with business meetings for that same period, Edwards finished fourth-lowest among 19 members, behind Thurmond, Joe Biden, D-Del., and Kennedy.
Edwards attended 31 of 91 total meetings, or 34 percent. The committee attendance average was 49 percent.
Once Edwards started seeking the White House, his attendance dropped further, giving him the lowest attendance on the committee both for the 2003-04 108th Congress, and for the entire three years since he joined the committee.
Details for different categories include:
* In the 108th Congress in 2003-04, Edwards attended three of 34 business meetings — worst on the committee — or 9 percent. The average for all committee members was 69 percent, or almost eight times higher.
* Edwards did not stay for all of the meetings he did attend. Committee records show his votes were recorded "by proxy" at some of those meetings. After the committee achieves a quorum, busy senators often leave and allow a party leader to vote by proxy for them.
* While Edwards attended the first five business meetings after he first was appointed to the committee, he attended only eight of the next 59 over three years.
* In 2003-04, Edwards attended six of 87 hearings (7 percent), lowest on the committee. The average for all committee members was 28 percent, or four times higher.
* That means for 2003-04, Edwards attended nine of 121 (7 percent) total committee meetings. The average for all committee members was 39 percent or five times higher.
* For all three years Edwards has been on the committee, he attended 40 of 212 total committee meetings (19 percent), tying for worst with Biden. The committee average was 38 percent, or twice as high. (Hatch had the highest attendance average in that time, 76 percent.)
* For those three years, Edwards attended 27 of 148 hearings (18 percent) and was second-lowest on the committee behind Biden. The committee average was 32 percent. He attended 13 of 64 (20 percent) business meetings — lowest on the committee. The committee average for such business meetings was 69 percent, more than three times higher..

Stupid? Heh I dont think so.
Why is it you feel the need to start with personal attacks and name calling? Some sort of inferiority complex that somehow makes you feel like a bigger man perhaps?
Search my threads. I defy you to find a single post of mine where I feel the need to resort to namecalling. And I disagree with people plenty.
Search more and you will see that most of the better and more intelligent posters do not feel the need to resort to such infantile behavior.
If you can prove me wrong. On Any subject.
You may do so freely. I'm a big boy I can take it.
and we can banter back and forth just like anyone else.
You might also find that when proven wrong I am man enough to admit it
But if you insist on trying to hurling insults like that of a 4 year old I will simply consider the source and ignore it as though the response were meaningless and without substance. Just as I would a 4 year old.

Since I work in government...and it is a branch that I have access to certain things.......I know for a fact that votes recorded on a machine on something doesnt mean that the person was even there to have voted for it. Aides can push buttons for anyone that deems them fit to do so....All this while they are debating on the merits of 7 iron into a breeze or a low punched 8 iron under the wind.:lol
Your Goggles are VERY clear:aok

The VP as President of the Senate has a tie breaking vote, in case of ties.
And if the current President was unable to fulfill his duties, the VP is next in line to be President.
It does matter.
several VPs became Presidents.
The USA even had one President who was not elected into the office. guess which one. ;)
Research find out, do a report, turn it in to one of your classes for extra credit. < for those still in school.

Congressman from Michigan is an office so you must not mean Ford.
Bush was elected to the office of Governer of Texas and by an electoral college majority to the office of President.
That was better than Thomas Jefferson did, as he was second behind John Adams, 71 to 68 EC votes but no one received a majority so Jefferson was elected by the House of Representatives.
I guess I can't guess which one. What is the answer?

The VP has as much power as the Prez decides to let him have.
In THIS case I'd say this is probably the most powerful VP we've ever had

Now why on earth would someone lie about meeting someone else, when the records are so clear and so provable?
I suspect the real reason Cheney said those things were because Edwards is so impotent as to never having left an impression on Cheney.
I find it more than a little amusing that the democrats even CARE about lies after 8 years of Clinton.
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman........" , just to name a knee slapper...
Have a nice day!!! :aok

KERRY CLAIMS HE'S "NEVER, EVER" USED WORD "LYING" IN REFERENCE TO PRESIDENT BUSH ON IRAQ. JIM LEHRER: "New question, Senator Kerry. Two minutes. You've repeatedly accused President Bush, not here tonight but elsewhere before, of not telling the truth about Iraq. Essentially, of lying to the American people about Iraq. Give us some examples of what you consider to be his not telling the truth." SEN. KERRY: "Well, I've never, ever used the harshest word as you just did."
(Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)
BUT IN DECEMBER 2003, KERRY TOLD NEW HAMPSHIRE EDITORIAL BOARD BUSH "LIED" ABOUT REASON FOR GOING TO WAR IN IRAQ.
"Kerry also told a New Hampshire newspaper editorial board Friday that Bush had 'lied' about his reasons for going to war in Iraq, a word Kerry has been reluctant to use publicly for months. Yesterday he said he did not plan to use the word again." (Patrick Healy, "Kerry Camp Lowers N.H. Expectations Behind In Polls, Senator Now Seeks Spot In 'Top Two,'" The Boston Globe, 12/8/03)
AND IN SEPTEMBER 2003, KERRY SAID BUSH ADMINISTRATION "LIED" AND "MISLED."
"This administration has lied to us. They have misled us. And they have broken their promises to us. The president promised to the people and the Congress that he would build an international coalition, respect the United Nations' process and only go to war as a last resort. I will tell you that from my war fighting experience, I believe there is a test for a president as to how you go to war. And that test is whether or not you can look in the eyes of parents and say to them, 'I did everything possible to avoid the loss of your son and daughter, but we had no other choice in order to protect the security of our nation,' and I know this president fails that test in Iraq." (Sen. John Kerry, Campaign Event, Claremont, NH, 9/20/03)
