Why arent the Democrats making "the Patriot Act" A Major campaign issue? Particularly in light of the recent supreme court rulings.
this is the one issue that if they took a stand on it would get me on board.
Pretty safe bet I thin alot of other people would also.
So why arent they attacking that and making it a major issue?
-
For the same reason they passed the bill into law.
They're stupid.
-
They would get attacked for "being weak on homeland security".
Pros and cons considered, it's not worth it. I'm sure they've considered it.
-
I'm sorry... not stupid.
Weak.

The recent Supreme Court ruling you mention had almost nothing to do with the Patriot Act. The main stream media strikes again.

Lets just say then, that they aren't oblivious to politcal realities.
Weak? Well yeah... Suicidal? No....

It is my understanding that one of the things in question was the under the patriot act the feds were allowed to in esence create their own search warrants without first obtaining one from a judge. And that they were also allowed under the patriot act to not only conduct searches but then to forbid the person being searched from telling anyone about it.
Including their lawyers and/or the media.
Are both of these provisions not in the patriot act? And if not
On what grounds were they used, only to be later knocked down by the high court?
Im not arguing a point here. Im asking because I dont know.
I dont see how the Feds exept under the Patriot Act felt they had the authority to conduct such searches.

Clinton was no pansy when it came to erroding our freedoms to be tough on crime and fight the war against drugs. I'm not sure the Democrats have a real issue with it, at least not a libertarian leaning one.

Another indication of political weakness... not one will publicly challenge the drug war.

Drug war? HAHAHAHAHA
what drug war?
I know for a fact there are as many drugs in my kids Highschool as there were in mine.
Fortunately I also know for a fact my kid doesnt use.
Least not yet (knock on wood)
He knows Drugs would be hazardous to his health.
Not so much the drugs themselves as what I would do if he got caught.
Plus he knows I mean it when I say I'll enroll him in military school.
Trust me we lost the drug war a LONG time ago.
several presidents at least
-
Then we are continuing to throw good money after bad.
Prisons are the new business boom it seems in California... they're chock full of drug offenders.
-
The war on drugs is a HUGE waste of tax money.

agreed. We should be spending that money on a "war" against illegal aliens. Illegals are bigger problem. They influence our elections and drain our resources.
I'm sure some would say I'm racist because I want ALL illegals removed from this country though....

and the alternative is??
it's working more than many would like to admit
27 Tons of Cocaine Seized From Two Vessels In Pacific (http://www.dhs.gov/dhspublic/display?content=4046)
waiting for the day they are included in the war on terror - seems pretty easy to napalm production
-
I remember a comedian commenting something like this.
"the President announced we are loosing the war on drugs..
Now think about this for a minute and what this means.
this means there is a war going on, and the people on drugs,
Are WINNING IT!"
Hmmmmm
Thinking about it now perhaps Dr Timothy Leary had the right idea afterall

crap doesn't grow over night and needs a bright sunny patch to grow, would not be hard to eradicate the majority of crops if/when we wanted to

No, we would just import it, like the monitor you are staring at, the computer you are typing on, the shirt you are wearing, etc.
Of course, that would require our representatives to stop acting like a bunch of tools for the agriculture and low wage service industries.
