Title: Panzer/Tiger turret controls?
Post by: Preon1 on October 07, 2004, 08:42:54 AM
Maybe this control exists and I'm ignorant of it...

I do a lot of driving in my panzer from the pintle gun (using the rudder controls).  I would find it VERY convenient if I could also rotate the turret from this position.

I find myself having to pop in and out of the turret so I can ensure that I rotate it to the proper angle for a shot.  Usually this isn't an issue because I can just turn the tank towards the target, but if I'm somehow imobilized, or I need to track an airplane, this can become a real pain.

If this doesn't exist, I would like to suggest mapping the aircraft trim controls on the keyboard (J, L, I, K) to this function.  That way we can do a rough pointing of the tank cannon from the tank commander's position prior to aiming our shot.

you know you can also turn the tank from the turret position with your rudder controls, and also fire the pinto gun from the turret positon

No thats actually a Gun which is in the turret itself, not the Pintle.

The Panzer IV has three MG's, Pintle, Turret, and Hull Gun.

I would like to see the following options from the commmnaders cupola position:

1) The ability to stop the tank from the cupola.

2)  The ability to steer the tank in reverse gear from the cupola just like we can steer from the cupola fwd gears. I have no idea why reverse gear switches off when you move into the cupola.  It makes no sense because most times we use reverse to get out of being stuck in trees and an outside view would be great here.

3) Turret traverse from cupola.

you have to map it to your stick under vehicle  and secondary fire.

Or hit I think the key is     x   not sure  ill have to check and get back to you on keyboard command.

Ive had mine mapped to my stick since AHI  and find that the only good they do is  killing troops running close by or when their coming down in that chute .

Most of the time, my Turret Gun is silent, but some times I'll use it to find range for my cannon.

Well, I suck in GV's but would like to see the following;

i) tank can only be steered from driver position

ii)  you've got you're head sticking out the turret and a round comes in - dead.

I`m not much of a GVer, but I have often wondered what the thinking was on the fact that when you go from driver to main gun position the main gun is at a 90 degree angle with the tank. In other words, pointing to the side instead of inline with the tank as was normal.
I saw someone ask HT about this online one day and HT`s response was " That`s the first I`ve heard of this".

This is wrong, and it prolly shgows whjy u arent a good GV driver...

You ignore that a Panzer 4 had a 5 man crew who could communicate with headphones and a very slick throat micophone that did not pick up much exterior noise.  The commander's jjob was to scan around, either through his 360 degree scopes or with a head partially out, he could tell the driver to do anything instantly. Thats what we have now.

In fact we have less, because you cant speed up slow down the tank while still lokking outside. Not to mention that u cant drive in reverse at all when looking outside.

ok - first point taken on the steering, but what about the exposed commander when tank taking fire?

just thought - how different is it from the commander issuing instructions to the driver from you jumping from pos3 to pos1?

In the real tank, the commander can still look around while the driver is turning.

:)

As for ur second point, tank commanders are invulnerable to airplane MG so I guess the same gameplay concession is in play to shrapnel.

Grunherz,

Although not quite the same as looking out the commander's hatch, you can "page up" from the driver's position to look out his hatch and drive.

I also saved my view buttons to look to the sides up through the hatch as well, again, it's still not as good, but it's an OK work-around when you need it.
