must be a major router out somewhere on a backbone
-
well its not a hoax or a fishing trip, but 39.5mb transferring at 5kb/s - will take about 2. hours :)

WooHoo!!
Submerines!!!
-
im just going to watch the first mb...
-
Hitech, is it possible to mirror the file somewhere?
3.7 KB/sec right now...
-
I thought it was just my connection.
Glad to hear that others are suffering as well. :)
-
Waffle you banana! Don't tease :D
-
I am moving the file to our download server. Give me a minute.
-
Well, I got down to 1 second to go and it conked out on me.:(
Now I can't even access it.
-
Yeah Skuzzy, and while you're at that - Shouldn't this be in the "Films and Screenshots" forum as per Rule 1 in the Forum Rules :)
Gotta keep the whips on these BB heathens!

HT
The water looks great though could use some more improvement. Especially the color its still way too blue. It should be greyed down quite a bit.
A game that has great looking water and shows a good and realistic water color is "Virtual Skipper 3". I would recommend getting hold of a copy and studying that water, its truely great.
If you cant get hold of it I can provide you with a few screenies, but my graphics card doesnt do it justice.
Tex

Who said anything about teasing with submarines? look above at the water post :)

Get Cool goodies! (http://downloads.hitechcreations.com/film51.avi)
-
hehe "get cool goodies"
sounds like girl scout cookie time :)
-
Nice water,
Looks too blue to me also, unless that was off the coast of the Cayman Islands
-
Its kinda hard to get a good visual but the water is looking good.
-
WTFG
water looks awsome... and the Sub periscope looked real.
-
Color can be fixed, what's important, water looks liquid now, woohoo!!!
-
:aok keep em coming!
-
hell yeah go all out pacific style.
i am sick of this european sludge water and dreary terrain :)
-
are those reflections of the horizon, or just a visual illusion?
-
can we get different colors of water to simulate shallow and deep water?
ie blue green shallow and darker blue offshore? editor modifiable of course :)
think midway atoll
if so there is some serious pacific island work i want to do for some terrains and pacific is all about blue green water around the islands and darker blue water out at sea
-
Wow! I like, I like a LOT.
-
Sure its pretty nice, but it makes me want to pee...
-Llama
-
I think it looks a little too blue also, but it's a huge improvement over the shag carpet look of the old stuff! Now if they could add the beaches like the other flight sim.....
Question: is this new type of more realistic scenery going to require MORE computer upgrades, or would it still run on the systems we are using now...?
-
Mmmmmm Candy.
Candy is always great, especially when accompanied by food of substance.

HiTech is trying to make me build a new computer. I can't afford it, but I must build a new computer.

-
Is this gona effect FR ?? Looks great! :aok
-
All I see is a gray screen in the movie.. What plugin do I need to see this? I'm using Windows Media Player 9.00.00.3250
-
(http://www.computerpannen.com/cwm/cwm/cwm/eek2.gif)
Looks like the water from Joint Operations :)
-
What's supposed to be 'cool' about it? The light effect on the water?
-
sorry but its just not downloading

Very nice.
:aok
-
nice visual , but howcome a short movie like that took me 30 mins to d/L?? :lol
the BIG question is:
Are we going to see splashes and white water when the surface is breached by say, the plane i just shot down, ditching, bullets, and even as far as rippled wake on extremely low flying aircraft?
they can do it on monkey ball 2 on the game cube consol.
you can do it ht, make the candy sweet!
bat

Watched it 3 times, I didnt see a periscope anywhere.

Hmmm, I have to cook up a plan to get a couple of new computers, this'll kill me for sure!
Looks very nice though. Can we have a surf fishing option out of the hangar?
-
:aok
Now, how about stormy seas and swells for the ships? :D
-
i right clicked and chose save as and it worked.
HTC u had to see my face when i saw this it was kinda like this >>>    WTFG u guys rule but will this dramstically effect FRPS?

Elfie, you've been around long enough...suprised you swallowed that hook, the bait was so poorly attached it had fallen off and you still bit!

ITS A TRICK ISNT IT HTC!! YOUR ALWAYS FLYING AROUND THE MA!! I KNEW IT!! AND THE MONKEYS ON THE LAWN MWUEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEEHEH EHEHEEH
-
I've tried a bunch of things, and no matter what I do, all I see is a gray screen for the movie.. what do I need to see this thing?
-
Probably a codec Midnight. Try getting this: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
or this:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Codec_Pack_All_in_1.htm
You don't have to install the Classic Media Player if you dont want to. I use it - I dont like M$ getting a list of everything I watch.
-
Okay, I surrender. Downloaded the file several times, updated my QuickTime, even added some extra QT goodies, but still all I see is the gray movie bar underneath a blank screen.
QuickTime message says: "QuickTime is missing software required to perform this operation. Unfortunately, it is not available on the QuickTime server."
What do I need and where do I get it?
UPDATE:
Latest QuickTime wouldn't play clip, so switched to Windows Media Player 10 and the clip played fine.
Comment on clip: I've heard of throwing a dog a bone, but a screen of water...?
Looks good. Would love to see a gorgeous blue-green in shallower water edges, particularly in Pacific.
And ... any possibility of some wave action as in MS Flight Sim 2004?
-
Forget the Mermaids and Sub's, I was blown away by the sharks and seagulls.

Very nice indeed! :)
-
Wooooooooot!!!!! great stuff!
That is what I wanted in AH recently.
great job! :aok
-
I hope next cool stuff for 2.02 would be this :)
Cloud layers...
(I took this photo at Aso Kyushu, Japan yesterday)
-
That aint too bue, its just like the water in Croatia!
-
2mins 30secs through MSN on Verizon DSL !
It's a good start but needs some work, as noted by others (ie darker color for deeper water, lighter for shallows) and transparency with wave effects, would be even better. Any chance of adding mannable submarines to the list of ships, but making them separate from CV groups!
Another area that needs some improvement would be ground textures, instead of just using the same shades of green (like most of the M A maps) use darker colors for mountains (browns, blacks) and other colors on hills or flatlands, to give the terain a little better definition.
I think this all is going to kill frame rates even more, but what game doesn't suffer the Eye Candy Blues!
-
wow, hitech must have been flying the NIK to get that film, always knew it had more characteristics of an Apache than a WW2 plane lol :rofl
-
Ummmm. This effect close to release or still early stages?

If I understood it right, it should come this month. = 2 weeks!:D
-
The sparkling effect seen from high up is a bit sharp and bright but over all a serious nod of appreciation and one big "WOW!" from me. I really like that. A lot.
-
Fantastic. I would slow down the shimmer effect and see what that looks like. At altitude I don't think it should sparkle as much as it does.
Good start !!
-
When can we start fishing off the pt boats ?
-

I'm betting it's a gamma issue... the glare and shimmer will make subs an absolute bear to spot!!
;) OTOH... I agree with nopoop, great start but I question the shimmer from altitude (as if we aren't blinded enough already, hehehe)
-
Edit for thread steal
-
Very cool looking water shimmer, esp up close. Can we get a wav file of waves lapping against the hull of the PT boat when the motor is off?
-
Awesome effects on the water, only comment is that it does look a bit too blue. Will we have different colored water depending on the map? That would be great too!
Bazi
-
Great job HiTech !!!
Maybe HiTech should have prefaced his post with ...
Check out the cool shimmering water effect that I have made for 2.01.
Don't be concerned with the color of the water or the rapidity of the shimmering ... these are just peripheral effects to what I just really coaded ... shimmering water. The adjustments of peripheral effects will come later.
Look SHIMMERING WATER !!!
-
WOW nice shot Mits.
-
Shimmer effect turned out to be a vector length conversion problem in the shader.
-
Beautiful! :aok :D

I don't understand ... are you saying that its been there for some time and it was a vector length conversion problem that prevented us from seeing it and you just fixed it ?
or
you have been working your butt off trying to make this happen and finally found that it was vector length conversion problem and in your excitement decided to share this with us ?
-
or
was he working on something else and have that accidently happen?
someone wanna post a pic of the effect, im not about to download that much on 56k :aok
-
HiTech: Trouble with coad.
SlapShot: Oh no - what kind of trouble?
Hitech: Shimmer effect turned out to be a vector length conversion problem in the shader.
SlapShot: Pardon?
Hitech: Shimmer effect turned out to be a vector length conversion problem in the shader.
SlapShot: I don't understand what you're saying.
Hitech: [slightly irritatedly and with exaggeratedly clear accent]Shimmer effect turned out to be a vector length conversion problem in the shader.
SlapShot: Well what on earth does that mean?
Hitech: *I* don't know - Mr Balmos just told me to come in here and say that there was trouble with the coad, that's all - I didn't expect a kind of Spanish Inquisition.
;)
(I think HiTech may mean that the ocean wave "shimmer has been changed from the clip we see. IMO it was too sparkly and birght before. Perhaps it's a bit more subdued?)
-
Good translation from HT to english Westy.
HiTech
-
Really nice effects!
-
Looks pretty cool HT, wtg!
-
I downloaded both codec packs that Oct mentioned, plus upgraded my media player to "Series 9" since I have Win2000. Still can't view it... am I out of luck?
mauser
-
Have you tried playing it through the Media Player Classic thingy that comes with the codec pack?
-
Yep, I get a message saying "Cannot render the file" with the media player classic.
mauser
-
I get that sometimes when trying to play RealMedia files (.rm, .ram).
I dunno... video driver? Those codecs should be all you need... It didnt ask you to reboot after installation did it?
-
Looks cool!
-
Holy crapola... didnt see this post until now! Hanging out in the o'club all the time makes ya forget about the other stuff..
Great stuff Coady!
-
Hitech, I really like what you've done here. The water looks wonderful!
One suggestion I'd make, as was mentioned earlier: It's too blue.
So is the sky. So is the land. AH2 has had a problem with most things being over saturated big time (when compared to AH1). Would it be possible to desaturate things a bit? Just a suggestion.
-
Somthing I noticed
Near the end of the film, the sun's reflection on the water looks a bit like airbrush on microsoft paint...
It should look a bit more like this...
In the CENTER of the light's reflection on the water the color is completely white and not a bunch of seperated dots...
Other than that... nice job!
:aok
-
whats wrong with the plane or whale to the left in the pic?
-
If the file is that big to show us something cool, is this a hint of things to come concerning memory usage and frame rate once its implemented.
I went from 512 meg to a Gig on memory and seems like all that happened is the machine now takes 632 megs of Memory instead of the 470 it took when I ran with 512.
If this cool stuff hits the frame rate I may just find something else to play. You are pricing the game out of reach of some folks not with the monthly subscriptions but with having to buy more, more, more to try and get a decent Frame Rate.
We should not have to keep cutting edge computers or update what we have everytime a change is made to AH2, you should make sure what you design is as effecient as you can get it.
I heard an interesting quote one time "Better is the enemy of Good" maybe that would apply here.

Have you tried the application FSAutoStart, you can use it to cut down on all the MS crap that runs in the background before you fire up your favourite sim. Usually free's up about 100mb ram for me and like you I have a gig.
I have similar spec comp to yours except running a 9600XT, I don't think you should need to upgrade just to run AH2 and what ever water effects it may come out with. If you do there's something wrong way beyond the hardware.

-
Windows 2D multimedia file format and HTC specialized 3D app: does that sound like different and independent things to you, moto61?
-
moto.
I dont think the file size of the video is indicitive of the fr tax such an effect will have on our PCs.
The effect is in the form of tiles. The film is a whole streaming file same as when we record a 20 min film in AH2 gun cam format. BIG to d/l ....but in the game is one tile at a time . Something like that any ways. :)
PS i might as well say it.....I dont mean it to be rude or insensitive but I think the "Cool Stuff" needs MUCH work. The shimmer effect is like an old fashioned SNOW effect we used to get on our televisions when i was a kid.
The waves i think we are seeing....are like fog on the water.
But kudos for HTC trying to improve the water.

How
or
what
effect
will
this
have
on
Framerates??
-
Damn, I thought today's news is 2.01 release...
btw how heavy is this new water?
-
I'm guessing 2.01 release within the next 2 weeks :D
-
"connecting".......... for ever connecting
-

LOL ... its all about converting a .ahf file to a .avi file. The conversion is HUGE ... the file size is not an indicator of what the memory usage would be to display this new effect.
