Title: Max texture size
Post by: Pyro on October 08, 2004, 07:55:49 AM
I'm just taking a quick straw poll.  If you have a few seconds to answer, it would be appreciated.  The question is - What do you have your max texture size set to in your AH video options?

ATI 9800 Pro
1280x1024
All in game sliders set to max detail

I tried 1024, the graphics were great, but I experienced an occasional slight hesitation when approaching some enemy planes. Not nearly as bad as the horrible screen freezes on my old system, but enough to bug me. So I switched back to 512.

I might try disabling custom skins and going back to 1024. But realistically the only time I can tell the difference between 512 and 1024 is looking at my own plane, or an allied plane right next to me. You're never that close to an enemy plane for long enough to see the difference, and I saw no difference in the ground textures.

256 9550 256mb
512 TI 4600 128mb 30-80fps

All my pc's also have 512 in ram and runfrom 1.3ghz to 2.2

all sliders are at 1/2way and visual distance is maxed out, bitmaping is on ,and vsinc, 800x600 32bit on all but the gf2 its at 16bit.

all 4 pc's will stutter now and then in heavy cv actions and the fps drops hard once and awhile .

Textures: 128
Resolution: 1024 X 768
Card: GeoForce 2 MX  64MB

I tried the textures set to 1024 in the off line mode, and the only difference I could see was in the detail on the wing of my own aircraft.  I could see rivets, etc., where as with the texture set lower that stuff is just sort of blurred out.  Higher textures made absolutely no difference in enemy aircraft or ground detail as far as  I was able to see.  This may be because my computer is old it's not capable of seeing higher detail even if I set it...I'm not a computer person so i don't know if that is the case or not.

512,

average over 60 FPS

(If I use 1024 fps drops to 20 when land and sky are in view at same time, also when other planes are nearby)

512, which is what it defaulted to.

GF4-4200 128 meg

I have not attempted to use 1024 since AH2 beta and the lower resolutions don't look nearly as good IMHO.  I'll try out 1024 once I get my 6800GT back from RMA.

I get 20Frps tops in the air where there are no other planes...

Average 10-15 :(

512 for the textures.

I've been running 1280 x 1024 in the past frame rates in the 20-30's in most cases, detail sliders set about 90% detail and ground vis at max (3 miles)
