Title: Movie: Friday Night Lights
Post by: Dago on October 10, 2004, 12:06:22 AM
Saw the movie Friday Night Lights tonight.

From the movie I have drawn the following conclusion:

Texans are nuts. Loco. Insane.  Devoid of perspective.

Someone should form a charitable foundation to help nutty Texans.

I've tried in the past to explain to non Texans how huge high school football is to most Texans.  I haven't seen the movie yet, but from your description it might open some doors to understanding.

FYI I'm not one of the big fanatics. I've never been able to be a "spectator" of sports. I'll play, but I get bored just watching.

If you think Texas HS football is nuts, try South Louisiana.

You think they're nuts over football here? Mom's kill (I mean literally shoot people) to get their daughter's on the cheerleading squad.

Texas sucks.  Louisiana sucks.  Wisconsin HS teams would kick the ever loving crap outta those pansies.

Ha you guys got nothing over the chess teams in upstate NY, these kids are crazy. Fathers fighting, pawns being shoved into peoples eyes, its nuts. Peoples houses get burned down if they give up an easy checkmate too a rival school on homecoming.

I remember hearing about (and maybe there was a TV movie?) an incident down by Austin or Houston.

85% humidity sucks bad. I was enjoying the near 0% while I was in Phoenix. Being in CA again is "almost" as bad as TX.

Yeah, we don't know anything about humidity here in the land of 10,000 lakes  (there are actually 15,000 lakes in Minnesota, but who's counting?).  :D

Try South Georgia, it's Varisty Blues incarnate.

 Valdosta High School Football
Valdosta has a strong high school football tradition. It claims to be "the winningest high school football program in the country". Its record from 1913 through 2004 includes six national championships, 24 state championships, and 37 regional championships.

I think it is obvious now by majority consensus, all people in the south are insane, and especially about HS football.  :D

My Uncle coached high school football for 10 years (CIF large school division, 5 league titles). He then moved to Plano, Texas. He still lives in Texas, and still maintains that the quality of teams and players is higher in Southern California than anywhere else in the Country.

Possibly, but this isn't about quality.  This is about the fact that Texans (my family's from Texas and I've lived there) are insane when it comes to football.  Whether it's high school, college or pro.  Just insane.  From the papers to the TV news.

"Tonight, scientists have discovered the cure for cancer.  But first, here are the scores from the local high school JV games!"

I hope the book was great, because the movie was mediocre at best.

Was based at Moody AFB during the 80s, have to say that's
the biggest frigging high school football stadium I've ever seen :)
