Our bikes....87 miles south of Alpine and on our way back to Phoenix

Some BIG arse trucks in Morenci Arizona working the cooper, gold and silver mine operted by Phelps Doge. The town of Morenci is completely owned by Phelps Dodge. The mine is HUGE! It spans miles across and thousands of feet deep. They work it 24 hours a day, seven days a week Im told.

This pic does not do the size justice, but you can see a small portion of the mine here. Some of the views remind me of the grand canyon..

Anyway, was a great ride. I only wish that I had taken some desert pics for you . I later thought....wtf? Most people are probably gonna want desert pics coming from a bike ride in Arizona.

I get plenty of desert pics here. :)
This is about 20 miles from my house:

Nice shots btw... are those yellow and green things called trees?
I've heard of them. ;)

Looks like a great place to ride. Nice pics.

Great Pics Nuke, ill be heading up north in a few weeks, I am hiking Mt. Humphreys on the 23rd. I just wanna see trees with leaves again I miss them. lol
-
Nuke, really like your bike but I'm not a big fan of the Touring bike that your friend rides. I realise it is more practical than yours for riding long distances etc. but yours looks much cooler.

Man, you ever been up Mt. Lemmon? It's right near Tucson and it's pretty cool.
Curval, thanks :) My bike might get a few more looks than his, but on this trip I kinda wish I had his.
He's protected from a lot of wind and his range is a lot longer. I have to fill up about every 120 miles.
We left the desert ( around 95 degrees) and 40 minutes later it was starting to get very cool. We were above 8000 feet and in the tall pines for a good long time.
Then coming back we got some rain. All said was about a 750 mile trip.
I wish I had taken a lot more pics. We went through some areas that looked like they belonged in Arizona Highways magazine.

I remember Atlanta Georgia had some fantastic roads. Spent a few hours in my rental car there just having fun on the freeway ramps near the airport. Traffic there is worse than in LA though.
:D

I spend usually one or two days a week hiking in the Catalinas and up on Mt. Lemmon. This weekend I am hiking Mt. Wrightson and then the following heading up Humphreys. I cant wait to be up at 12 and a half thousand feet.

Nice colors there NUKE, lotts of red, orange and yellow leaves here too. Looks like a great trip.

Nuke, if you ever get around to my side of the country, I'd highly recommend taking a bike trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. Its some great driving and I bet it would be even more of a thrill on a bike. Its constantly around 60-70 degrees, so bring a sweater. :)
Here are a few pics within a few hours of my house.

Ice, not water :)
Its even better in the winter, but its probably way too cold for a bike.

Nacho thats a great run.. I do whats called the "Snake Run" once a year..
This is what we normally take.. GA 60 from Dahlonega to Suches, GA 180 from Suches to US 19/129, US 129 South to Alt 75, Alt 75 North to GA 348 (Richard Russell Scenic Highway), GA 348 to GA 180, GA 180 to GA 180 Spur (Brasstown Bald), GA 180 from Brasstown Bald to GA 17/75, GA 17/75 South to Helen.
It sucked tho this year I ran it Sat which was crappy weather and all you had was pea soup up at Brasstown Bald. But I still love the run..
