If Osama bin Laden ever buys a rap album, he'll probably start with a CD by KRS-One.

The hip-hop anarchist has declared his solidarity with al-Qaida by asserting that he and other African-Americans "cheered when 9-11 happened," reports the New York Daily News.

The rapper, real name Kris Parker, defiled the memory of those who died in the terrorist attacks as he spouted off at a recent New Yorker Festival panel discussion.

"I say that proudly," the Boogie Down Productions founder went on, insisting that, before the attack, security guards kept Blacks out of the World Trade Center "because of the way we talk and dress.

"So when the planes hit the building, we were like, 'Mmmm - justice.' "

The atrocity of 9-11 "doesn't affect us the hip-hop community," he said. "9-11 happened to them, not us," he added, explaining that by "them" he meant "the rich ... those who are oppressing us. RCA or BMG, Universal, the radio stations."

Parker also sneered at efforts by other rappers to get young people to vote.

"Voting in a corrupt society adds more corruption," he added. "America has to commit suicide if the world is to be a better place."

Hey look! The "MT" defense arises again!  Don't worry, I hear you get over that white guy guilt complex when you die.

so... if we pointed out how what a traitor a white performer was if he said that a lot of whites cheered when 9/11 happened then that would be ok with you MT?   we just can't put any black in a bad light no matter how bad he is?

MT,

How about a little outrage over anyone saying anything so disgusting?

Instead you come rushing in to just take a shot at Rip.

What? I called the guy an idiot! Not outraged enough for ya?

OK! The guy is a slimeball snake in the grass stupid ignorant idiot.

And Lazs, I guess we'll have to wait and see if I'd do the same after a white guy is used to represent a whole group. Let me know when that happens.

MT.. tone down the rightious indignation for a moment and look at the post... How did it in any way attack something that represented a whole group?

The oppossite was true.  "Parker also sneered at efforts by other rappers to get young people to vote."

huh?   seems that parker is alone rather than "representing a group"

you are just too sensitive.

I own a few old KRS1 albums,

He is one of Raps founding fathers, And there are plenty of songs where he questions the morals and ideals of our society, which is OK to do in our society, but his comments about 9/11 while vile and disgusting are his oppinions.

I remember a few of his songs, they start with ALLAH AKBAR! Truthfully, I'm being serious. I never thought anything of it except for the fact he might be a Muslim. I doubted he was, remember the Muslim Religon was very popular in the Rap Culture in the 90's. And a lot of Musicians, tried to capitlize on the Muslim Religion to sell records.

Good Rip and Paste, Rip.

As for being a role model, KRS One, had his time. He was very popular when I was first started listening to Rap, and that was the late eighties, Ask your average child under 15, and they'll prolly tell you they never heard of him.

And the title read "More hip hop role models!"

1: I certainly hope the black community, as a whole, doesn't think hip hop is actually representative. Of course, it may. I'll be interested in hearing how this is a good thing ... for the blacks or the whites or the greens.

2: Hip hop ... artists ... have produced several poor role models ... in various colors, shades and shapes. Apparently this will be an ongoing trend.

This is another guy presenting his beliefs, and because he's in the spotlight, he naively thinks his status makes him a spokesperson for a whole group of people.
I think it's pretty uncouth  to read one article and then post that this guy represents all of hip hop.  Which he doesnt

MT... the title does not say "all hip hop" or even "most hip hop"  it says "another"   are you saying that he is the only hip hop poor role model?

admit it... you are so sensitive about race that you have lost all sense of fairness and objectivity where race issues are concerned.

MT, another example of a black person throwing in the race card at the first opportunity. No wonder many white  people avoid them if they can.  Working with them is risky, they could scream racism and even if their claims were completely baseless, you'd have problems.

Lots of small business owners shy away from hiring them for the same reason... a derned shame for those black people who want a job based on their merits and don't have the race card in their pockets.

Seems like KRS thinks he represents some group.

He never says "I".

Read the post. It's wall We and Us.

Perhaps the black community needs to denouce this little message of hate.

"So when the planes hit the building, we were like, 'Mmmm - justice.' "

"doesn't affect us the hip-hop community," he said. "9-11 happened to them, not us,"

yep... I pretty much avoid working with or being around black people for those reasons.  I am being honest but am sure that a lot of less honest people will try to lambast me.

More, in this case, implies one of two things, depending on what Ripsnort meant to say. It means either:

1.) 'More Hip-Hop role models'... Implies That KRS-1 is just another of a crowd of people who are generally not to be considered role models at all, but rather negative-minded people whose opinions need to be taken with a grain of salt, or, in this case, an entire shaker's worth.

or

2.) 'More hip hop models!' ... Implying that more guys like this(KRS-1 specifically) would only serve to further screw up or enflame the current situation.

I'm leaning towards #2. It's delivered with more humor and is more narrow in its focus. If the case is that it's #1, the sentiment would come across more clearly if it were rewritten as Another Hip-Hop role model.

Either way, however, I don't think that too many hip-hop or rap  artists make good role models, and this is in no way limited to the Black ones. Eminem and Everlast, both guys I consider to be very talented, are nevertheless vulger, crude men whose words are very often weilded against others simply for the purposes of escallating tensions for the sake of record sales. The bulk of the others that come to mind spend more time talking about their net worth, their predelection for smoking the best weed, drinking the most expensive liquor and banging the finest beaver. Fun to listen to, perhaps, but hardly material by which to raise your kids.

Lighten up, people. This guy's all words. If he were action, he'd have moved himself and his record label to a country he considered worthy of his presence.

KRS is just not another 'idiot'. His is a legend in most east coast / NYC rap circles. In fact he's collaborated with several NYC Hardcore bands and has the ear of a lot of folks outside of Hip Hop.

Passing him off as 'just another idiot' as some sort of defense mechanism to an attack on Hip Hop doesn't hold water.

His words carry a lot of weight and even when they appear stupid to most ordinary people folks still listen. The same type of person who would try to distance themselves form his current 9/11 statements would defend his other nonsense as 'an expression of his generation'. Who's to say he is the only one thinking that way in his community.
