Title: Lanc Take off

Is it possible to takeoff in a heavily loaded lanc (14K bombs, 75-100% fuel) and get into the air by the end of the runway (and if so, how)?

I can't manage this: I try full flaps, max up elavator trim and hold on the breaks while the engines get up to speed.

Previously this didn't matter much as I could happily overshoot the runway until I was in the air. Now with beta15 (and presumably 1.08) all that ground clutter is solid and you die if you run into a tree.

Pull fuel down to 25 or 50%. 25% will take you 6 sectors, thats plenty for most field attacks.

Use as little control input as possible as you roll down the runway. Wait on flaps till your almost at the end, then no more than 2 notch's.

Lift it off gently, let speed built while your getting gear & flaps up, then start a gentle climb.

You can also use the trick of holding on the brakes until the engines fully spool up.

My typical Lanc pre-flight is something like:
1) raise flaps
2) add a little up trim (k key or mapped button)
3) hold down brakes and spool up engine till full power
4) let it roll and use as little stick input as possible
5) 2 notches of flaps right near end of the runway and gently pull back.
6) raise gear
7) try and get at least 1 notch of flaps up as soon as your speed builds.  Then pull other notch in.

Something like that at least.

Click the Training link in my siggy, theres a training film sector with a Lanc film that is text narrated and guides you thru a heavy lanc take off.  You'll need the Norway terrain to view it.

Or just not worry about it.  Your not doing anything wrong, your just operating your Lancaster bomber from an airfield with too short a runway for it.

Also!! the higher the altitude of the field you are using for takeoff, the longer the takeoff roll will take.

This ofcourse is "density altitude" but is this modeled in AH?

Try it Beeg, go to the uterus map, try and takeoff a heavy lanc at any of the low fields, and then try the same at a field such as 44 or 48
